So why was that mark actually paid? If we were actually trying to win wouldn't we be furious right now? Surely that mark shouldn't have been given (very glad it was though).

good result. grimes and petterd goals amazing. mcmahon marked it after the siren sounded but oh well what can you do.

Really? I haven't been able to watch.

Ah well, we have the moral victory, which in our circumstances is the best result. Somehow I don't think Melbourne will be appealing to the AFL.

EDIT: Actually, I shouldn't even talk about morals after this game...

48 metres out straight in front. Would be immensely [censored] off if top 4 or finals were at stake. he marked it a good half second after the siren started ringing.

i'd be immensely [censored] off if it was any situation other than the one we're in.

i'd hope just for image sake that we make some sort of fuss about it. dont want the result changed or anything but...

Richmond are in trouble, we have a lot of players out 3 injuries and they beat us with a kick after the siren. I want this year over, I hate this feeling.

could not agree more!!! we should be furious right now with the circumstances but i could not be happier

I am still in shock from what I just saw.

One measly second and a pressure kick has kept us with duo Scully and Trengrove.

Unbelievable.

Jordan Mcmahon you are my hero.

And Richmond are THE WORST TEAM IN THE AFL BY A MILE.

Putrid and embarrasing. I am ashamed to be a Demon today. The only positive was that the players left nothing on the field.

Dunny is a solid forward unit and he showed today why...

Bails better give this kid more game time up forward and he'll continue to shine...

Well done Toigs, I was about to lose it completely after we got ahead with a min to go...there is a god! not.

Norm Smith would be turning in his grave at how his club have resorted to laying down.

I didnt get to see the game or hear it on the radio, so for anyone who did: is this a game we can take alot of heart in? I mean, this was arguably our worst possible side, hand-picked to lose, and with the coach reportedly playing people out of position and resting key playmakers at crucial moments in the game, and we still apparently outplayed Richmond (who were trying to win) and were probably screwed out of a victory. Watching today, did anyone see signs that we're possibly better than our position on the ladder indicates and -when playing at full strength again next year- we may improve quicker than expected, or were Richmond just that bloody awful?

Relaxxx we will not win. You can show this post if we do because I am confident we will not win.

Scully is ours everyone relax.

Brad Miller in the RUCK omg lol

The Forward line near the end of the QTR was Warnock, Frawley, Spencer and Barts

Wow. Good get MM...

I've never seen ANYTHING like that. Any demons supporter who uses the term "Carltank" should hang their heads.

It's one thing to NOT pick up Trav Johnstone, but to put what I saw as at least 6 positional changes, that were kept for large portions of the match, and not make changes... Unbelievable. I've never seen all this in one arvo:

- Positional changes - Miller to ruck, Newton to defence, Warnock to attack, Bartram on Reiwoldt or Morton or whoever it was. PJ on Brown in defence. It just went on and on.

- Let's say we won that. We would have made the most aggressive tank I've ever seen by a long way, with the "other" 22 on our list at this stage... The Tigers really are the worst in the game at the moment. Looking at the images of the players celebrating, I can't believe they think they deserved that.

- There were positives from a LOT of players too. Apart from a great game again to Bruce, and JMac who needed one, who are the older players, there were lots of younger guys who showed new things, or consolidated form we'd seen earlier this year. Bate, Cheney, Dunn, Grimes, Jetta, Jones, Petterd, Valenti in patches, Warnock...

How we got away without those points is beyond me. I'll be trying to forget this as soon as possible, but I don't think I'll be able to.

One of the biggest spectacles I've ever seen.

By the way, it's a known fact that the umpires call time when THEY hear the siren, which can, at times, take ages to get from the source to the umpires ear.

We hear it instantly on the TV, but the umpire hears it often long enough after for a player to take the mark.

I wonder if he would? They didn't have PPs in his day. He may well have ordered more of a tank than we saw today. Whatever helps MFC in the end.

I don't know what shocks me more, the game itself or the fact that I agree with this post 100%.

Richmond is garbage, pure and simple.

Bailey and co. could have done no more to lose. We somehow ended up with 1 fit guy on the bench, our defenders played as forwards, PJ was at CHB, goddamn Michael Newton on the wing. And yet, Richmond, with nearly a full team, won by pure luck.

This game is going to go down as one of the greatest Melbourne victories of all time.

It's fate. I have no other way to explain what the hell went down today.

Finally our luck is changing!

Gotta love dean bailey. He will cop it from all angles this week. You would even think the players are going to ask questions. He took one for the team today.

West Coast vs Bombers is underway.

West Coast should win, Bombers have lost some key players.

This will be interesting.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
