Hey guys. Just down from Gosford (near Sydney) for the game tomorrow ... is there a pub near the MCG that people usually drink at before the game?

Cheers!

Hi Adz, glad you have made it down from Gosford. I am not sure where the demonland faithful have a few earlies but you can always try the Cricketers Arms on Punt Rd opposite the Tigers - Punt Road Oval. It is a small pub that gets very busy but has a great atmosphere

The London tavern usually gets a few drinkers in... Transport opposite Flinders St station isn't bad either, massive selection of beers. And it's only a 10 minute walk along the Yarra to the G...

I take the train in from Essendon and usually stop at Transport before the game. It's good and there is a huge selection but if you're staying in the city I agree that the Cricketers Arms is fun. Good crowd generally.

go to fed sqaure for the walk to the g. then get some beers at transport on the way through..

Or there is The Corner Hotel a bit further along Swan st in Richmond, has a big roof top beer garden although it might not be the best for tomo's weather.

Thanks for the replies :D

Cricketers Arms looks like a good little pub - looked it up on google maps ;)

Although... comments about the Royal have piqued my interest o_0

We should head out to transport first because that's where the march will be leaving from.

From there is anyone's guess, BULLRING!

Thanks for the replies :D

Yea the Royal is not all it's cracked up to be, I recall one of the waitresses wandering around requesting tips for her "show" whilst smashing down a meat pie and chaffing on a dart. All class.

lol this sounds like a pub near my place where they have topless waitresses... they walk around and ask for $1 coins, which they then stack up on their nipples ;)

if the royal is only down from the cricketers (like it says on google maps) might pop in for at least 1 to see what the go is :D

off to sample the nightlife now!

wish me luck :D

The Royal is only about 80 metres from the Cricketers, and if you go to the Cric then check out the beer garden.

It may sound a bit lame but Fed Sq. and the walk is actually good. You will feel quite proud to be amongst so many Dees suporters.

Seriously go to the Transport bar. The Red n Blue Army will be in full force. Not to be missed.

LOl @ the Royal.

Had the start of my bucks day there last year, before the first North game.

Let's just say the entertainment is c+ at best :o

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
