I got to know Sammy when I was Team Manager under Big Carl in 1979 and he was always happy to have a chat over the last 30 years. He was a great bloke and loved the club so much it was a large part of his life.

He will be sadly missed. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends. RIP Sam.

My first post on Demonland, and although I'm a Carlton man (please no lynching party) I was saddened to read that Sam Allica had passed away.

As a kid I watched the great Melbourne sides under Norm Smith. And they were awesome, and buzzing in and out of the action was Smithy's runner Sam Allica.

Tony Charlton and Mike Williamson the TV commentators of the day, never referred to him as the Melbourne runner when he conveyed one of his many messages

for the day, they always referred to him by name. Hence it seemed to stick in my impressionable bonce.

With Peter McLean (64 Demon premiership player,68 Blues premiership player) also passing away recently it probably doesn't hurt to reflect on all the lesser knowns

who contributed to our great game.

Well put Murray, people like this made (and make) our game what it is today - and helped make it mean so much to so many people

I met Sam a couple of times as a kid. Sam was totally Melbourne, one of our legends that other clubs could only envy.

I hope the team plays well in his honor this week (and always) R.I.P. Sam Allica.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
