Great win by Hewitt over night in Halle, any win over Federer is a good win and it reminded me of his famous Davis Cup win over Federer in Melbourne back in 2003.

Question is how far can he go at Wimbledon? While I don't think he can beat Federer there I don't think there's anyone else on tour that he isn't capable of beating on grass.

A fit Hewitt at his best is good enough to beat anyone on grass. That's only Federer's second loss on grass since 2003, his first ever loss in Halle. He might be on the wane slightly but you've still got to produce good tennis to knock him off on grass, so well done Hewitt.

He has to hope he gets a half-decent draw this year. How many times does he end up with Federer in the third or fourth round?

He tends to draw that particular short straw pretty regularly, he also seems to get Nadal in Paris in the same round every year.

So maybe beating Hewitt is like some kind of a key to winning a Grand Slam !!!

If he plays like that and can remain injury free through out the tournament then he can probably beat just about anyone, even Federer.

That being said too many long grinding matches early will put his fragile body under enormous stress and someone will benefit from that later on.

The mental thing is the best for Hewitt, he knows how to win a Slam and understands what it takes to succeed during the two weeks.

And on grass he is more or less at his best, and he is playing better than I have seen him in ages (he also played well going down to Rafa in Paris)

But I wouldn't think he is in with a legitimate chance of claiming the trophy, but I would hoped a quarter final appearance would not be out of sight.

All depending on the draw of course......

Federer having a scare the other night was interesting in the first round. But that always happens in first rounds of grandslams, if the top seeds are going to loose early it will be to a nobody in that round - Federer Lives To Fight Another Day...just

Throughout the second, Falla continued to take Federer's uncharacteristically short balls on the rise and followed them up with big serves. Federer's brows begun to furrow as more of Falla's balls whizzed past him, and he chipped his own returns lamely into the net.

John Isner and Nicolas Mahut playing a decently long match.

After 4 sets it's 4-6 6-3 7-6 6-7 in just under 3 hours.

Oh yes...and the 5th set is 58-59 and has taken over 7 hours. This set alone would be the longest match in the modern Open era I believe.

think of a tennis record.. and there is a fair chance that it has been SMASHED.. isner 98 vs mahut 94 aces, CRAZY.. 59 all.. insanse

Unbelievable match. Mahut's saved 4 match points in the fifth set already, including one at 59-58, right before the end of play.

Apparently someone was there watching it, left at 7-8 to go watch England vs Slovenia, when that was over he came back and re-commenced the tennis at 28-27.

I wonder how the umpire's back's feeling?

In the entire game Mahut's only had 3 break points, and converted 1 of them. Isner's had 12, and also only converted 1.

Both have broken Ivo Karlovic's record for number of aces in a match, with Isner on 98 and Mahut on 95.

Winners: Isner 218, Mahut 215 (includes aces).

The fifth set has been going for 424 minutes

Yeah i watched most of the 5th set on the internet, it has broken all records as the 5th set alone has beated the longest match ever - Isner And Mahut Play Longest Match In History

The points they were playing were amazing considering how tired they were, super fit

Would have been great if they'd kept going till the end last night. Isner wanted to. Of course light and the time of night played a factor, but I wonder whether the overnight rest will refresh them and the break will come really early.

yeah it will be interesting to see how they pull up, its a shame though as it would be nice for someone to win while in the match and not having to come back the next day. The ffeling to see the person win would be amazing, the crowd ect

Not really, commentators can be pretty slack when it comes to English...

lol just messing around. This match is seriously one of the most unbelievable sporting occurances I can think of.

Thought Tomic played really well last night. Had the break in the third, but he unravelled at 3-1 when he could have really pressed Djokovic. Then had some chances to break in the fourth. Ultimately Djokovic is a far better player, so there's no disgrace in losing in the slightest, but there were definitely some immensely positive signs last night. Could well be a force in the next 5 years.

A much bigger shock though was Federer losing after taking the first two sets. First time he's ever lost from that position in a Grand Slam, after 150 or so wins. And it wasn't Nadal, Djokovic or Soderling either. And it was on grass. Clearly coming to the end, is Roger.

Nadal-Murray is going to be a very interesting semi. Nadal might still be a bit injured, and dropped a set to Fish in the quarters. Murray steamrolled Lopez. Maybe with a bit of crowd support, who knows?

Not really unfortunately, Rafa was ruthless and outside of one really poor service game was not really threatened.

Interesting to see how he handles losing the #1 ranking to Djokovic, especially going into the final, if maybe revenge is in play or not.

Whatever happens it has been a great tournament, especially for Tomic, but I do hope for a Rafa win!!!
