Zac Dawson

Thanks for the advice Pit but I'll not judge a player on one incident in one game, that is for mugs. I'll look at the whole year and what he's achieved.

I'll not restate his achievements but he can clearly play.

BTW, what do you think of Rivers? Just take a look at the fumble in the square against Richmond in the last quarter. That did cost us the game.

I agree, you can't condemn a player for one incident but that episode is typical of what I have seen of Zac. He was shaky against the Pies in the same way and at this risk of repeating myself there was that shocking handball incident at the Punt Road end. Chook minus head equals Zac from what I have seen and that might be harsh because defenders are always under the pump but I prefer a steadier head.

Rivers? I'm a fan and that over running incident was out of character. But Zac in a panic seems in character.

I'll forgive Rivers for that one.

That's why Rivers is not our FB.

You need to have a very calm head when you play down back. That is what separates guys like Lake, Scarlett and Garland from other key backs.

Dawson is a great return on investment, because the investment in him was so low. From that perspective, it was a great get by St Kilda, but he is an average defender who is made to look infinitely better because he is playing in a very very good team.

I wonder how he'd go in Melbourne's backline, constantly under siege. I doubt he'd get a game.

Driving home from the football several weeks ago Dermie said that Dawson still wouldn't get a game at Hawthorn. Who does he think he is kidding.

Admitting to the media that the club is a complete idiot & really stuffed up is obviously a tough gig!!

Better to deflect the blame to someone else!!! (Kennett??)

I think, although Dermie doesn't realise it, he's making more of a statement about Hawthorn's stubbornness and arrogance, than he is about Dawson's ability.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
