the first five rounds already are [censored] house

we want home games that draw big crowds

we play both richmond and collingwood away at the G

and play adelaide at home (f***ing twilight game) and north melbourne at home on the f***ing day of the grand prix

the draw so far is utterly crap

Not one home Friday night game? Yay.

4 weeks in a row, port an wc at the G, Cats at Geelong and then another "home game" against Sydney at Manuka (though apparently, that's not unfair because you must keep intact the integrity of the league)

Pies round 2, massive

And is that 13 Sunday matches?

No we didnt in short.

We Have:

7 home games against victorian teams (1 sat, 5 sun, 1 mon)

4 home games against interstate teams (2 sat, 2 sun)

6 away games in victoria (1 fri, 3 sat, 2 sun)

5 interstate games (2 sat, 3 sun)

All up we have 1 friday night game, 8 saturday games, 12 sunday games, 1 monday game

Bloody terrible!!

** note: thats counting the sydney game as an away interstate game, even though it technically isnt

  • Author

I've now had time to go through it. We've been royally fcuked over.

Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Fremantle, and West Coast all home at the G.

And the AFL doesn't compensate us for the inequality of the draw. Maybe the AFL sees this as there last chance to kick us out.

Just our matches.

1 Sunday March 29 1:10pm NORTH MELBOURNE MCG

2 Saturday April 4 2:10pm COLLINGWOOD MCG

3 Sunday April 12 12:40pm PORT ADELAIDE AAMI Stadium

4 Sunday April 19 2:10pm RICHMOND MCG

5 Sunday April 26 4:40pm ADELAIDE MCG

6 Sunday May 3 2:10pm GEELONG MCG

7 Sunday May 10 2:40pm WEST COAST EAGLES Subiaco Oval

8 Saturday May 16 2:10pm WESTERN BULLDOGS MCG

9 Sunday May 24 4:40pm HAWTHORN MCG

10 Saturday May 30 7:10pm ST KILDA Gold Coast Stadium

11 Monday June 8 2:10pm COLLINGWOOD MCG

12 Friday June 19 7:40pm ESSENDON Telstra Dome

13 Saturday June 27 7:10pm BRISBANE LIONS Gabba

14 Saturday July 4 2:10pm WEST COAST EAGLES MCG

15 Sunday July 12 2:10pm PORT ADELAIDE MCG

16 Saturday July 18 2:10pm GEELONG Skilled Stadium

17 Sunday July 25 1:10pm SYDNEY SWANS Manuka Oval

18 Sunday August 2 1:10pm RICHMOND MCG

19 Sunday August 9 1:10pm NORTH MELBOURNE Telstra Dome

20 Sunday August 16 1:10pm FREMANTLE MCG

21 Saturday August 22 2:10pm CARLTON Telstra Dome

22 Sunday August 30 2:10pm ST KILDA MCG

Two home matches in the first 5 weeks, against the Roos on Grand Prix day, and Adelaide.

Pretty much explicitly tell us what the AFL thinks of our club

  • Author

hmm the link doesn't work now. perhaps some hack journo at the herald sun jumped the gun a little too early.

Two night matches for the whole year and neither of them are our home games, thanks AFL. Way to run an even competition, really helping us get back on our feet.

Day spread is something like this:

Friday: 1 (Not home)

Saturday day: 6 (2 Home)

Saturday Night: 1 (Not home)

Sunday Day: 10 (7 home)

Sunday twilight: 3 (1 home)

Monday: 1 (home)

I thought last years scheduling was horrible, but this is just disgusting. Having seen what having all those Sunday games did to us last year they still thought it was fair to give us a crap load of them again. I wouldn't have minded so much if they'd given us an even spread of home games on other days, but no it's all good. I am so [censored] off right now, just wanna walk up to AFL headquarters and spit on the building.

Is this official? Hasn't been released on AFL website, and HUN site says it will come out at 11.30. So maybe a fake? Plus only 4 interestate and Manuka and Geelong. Hmmm.

OK - 2 things.

1. From a financial viewpoint, this is an utter, utter, utter disgrace and potentially very damaging.

HOWEVER

Point 2 - From a playing perspective, I actually don't think its too bad. Depending on how Bailey works his magic over summer, a bullish start to the season is possible. (OK, slightly optimistic, but better that the Hawks, Dogs and Cats we copped this year).

Lets face it, if the teams performance isn;t up to scratch, then the most favourable draw in the world isn't going to help.

.. but I don;t like Sunday games.. not as easy to enjoy a few beers with it

Not so sure, I'm thinking they just published the link early.

We'll know soon enough.

That's 13 Sunday games.

Disgrace.

Collingwood have the most MCG games with 14.

We are second with 13 games.

Here's Gillon McLachan's take on our draw:

"They’ve got a good footy draw. What they do have is a lot of Sundays.

"In the end there’s actually no difference between your average crowd on a Sunday versus a Saturday, but it will have an impact on their corporates.

"That’s where the impact is felt, on the corporate revenue.

"We try to do the best we can to keep everyone happy in the end and there’ll always be a couple of clubs who I guess will be marginally more disenfranchised or marginally less happy than everyone else."

http://www.afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/tab...px?newsId=69209

Sunday, B1oody Sunday! I don't believe it - how disgusting! How does our draw compare to other teams for Sunday games...? Surely there can't be any worse than our unfortunate MFC.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
