Who is No 1?

Ottens rested in the forward line last night, as did big Will

Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't Blake and Hudson start in the ruck for their respective sides? Minson is used up forward because of the Dogs lack of big forwards, and I wouldn't rate him as either a ruckman or a forward.

Ottens never starts a game in the forward line, but does push forward when in the ruck. I doubt that he spent much time up forward when Blake was on the ground.

Without loooking up the stats, I doubt that there is a ruckman that's kicked over 25 goals this year. Don't include Hale because he's kicked his goals when played purely as a forward.

Ottens and Blake were both on the ground together for a fair bit last night (As is evident by Ottens playing 78% and Blake 54%). And on top of that you couldn't mount an argument against any of the others I mentioned

Then enlighten me as to how many goals these supposed resting ruckmen have kicked this year.

Kosi and Moran have played predominantly as forwards this year, and how often would Charman rest in a forward line comprising Bradshaw and Brown?

Why can't you accept the fact that a) clubs do it and b) just because you think they don't doesn't mean it can't be done?

Just about every side has a ruckman who pinch hits up forwards for 10-15 minutes, so why couldn't Vickery do it for longer?

Carlton - although he didn't do it a lot, Kruezer played as a forward for a while in a couple of games where it was just him or Cloke/Hampson

Essendon - almost always started Laycock and Hille on the ground. didn't really work cos Laycock is a [censored] and Hille's not a great forward but it had its moments

Geelong - Ottens will be on the ground about 80% next week and I'd say about half that will be as a forward, he also made the AA team as a forward pocket in 2001

Melbourne - PJ has played forward a lot. imo will never be a key forward but did pretty well against Sydney

Tiges - Troy Simmonds spends a bit of time up forward

Kangas - Goldstein, Petrie, Hale and McIntosh all float between the forwardline and ruck (depending on who's playing)

Saints - Kosi does that role, and they tried Gardiner in that role too

West Coast - Seaby plays up forward a lot due to Cox playing so much of the game in the ruck

There's no law to say that a player can't be a ruckman AND a forward. What's stopping them if they're good enough to do it?

re: Kosi. King and Gardiner have both missed a fair chunk of footy this year and McEvoy only played a couple of games so someone had to ruck then

re: Moran. well that's one out of the 3 I mentioned you've presented some kind of argument for

re: Charman. Considering Lethal thought Brown and Bradshaw were struggling to work each other out you wouldn't expect Charman to play too much in the forwardline but last year he did it alot and on occasions this year he has as well

As for your comment about the goals - Most forwards will struggle to average 2 goals a game playing 100% of their game time in a forwadline, how do you think Ottens is going to go if he plays only 10% of a match there?

There's more to a forward than kicking goals anyway. Would you say Neitz had a bad day if he had 3 guys hanging off him but 10 goals were kicked by the 2 extra's direct opponents as a direct result?

Are you serious! Vickery would eat him for Breakfast! End of story!

The Vickery to be selected @ No. 1 rumour is starting to gather some serious momentium.

My mail is Pendergast is leaning very heavily towards this option.

Having seen live the Under 18 final in June, I would be very satisfied if this unfolds.

He was BOG for mine that afternoon.

The plot thickens.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
