Schwabby new CEO

Featured Replies

Cameron Schwab has been at the club during our most successful post 60s eras. Mid to late 80s when we made the finals for the first time in 25 years and in the late 90s when we then rebulit a list to play a GF in 2000. Now in 2008 and beyond to hopefully do it all again.

He was also part of the Tigers' early 90s tin rattle which brought them back from the brink, and CEO of the Dockers who were in dire financial trouble in early 2000s and a couple of years ago played in a prelim. Although only one part of a two team town, the Dockers were by far the lesser part, and he has helped them establish themselves in that market and gain some credibility in the AFL, although their on-field performances this year, much like ours, have eroded that to some extent. Luckily for them, the woes of the Eagles have negated the impact of that in the west.

In short he has the runs on the board. He is also a far more experienced CEO now than last time around. He is 44 and has held these roles for years when most at this age are just starting to apply for these positions.

Most importantly, he is familiar with our culture, having been there on and off over a 26 year period. He already knows our strengths, our weaknesses, our idiosyncrasies, our contacts, our market etc etc. Having been back now three times, he will hopefully be able to see what has worked and what hasn't over this journey, whether what was a strength is maybe now a weakness and vice versa in an ever changing market place.

This would be an advantage for mine over any other worthy candidate, who would need to learn and absorb all this. He can just hit the ground running - and time as much as anything else is something we may not have alot of.

His appointment is another positive plank in the platform that will enable us to rise again.

On Demonology, RobbieF reported that on SEN this morning it was said that objections from some of the old Board were the reason Schwab pulled out initially, but that was smoothed over by the new Board.

I dont think the objections of the old Board have any currency here.

Good summary Key Deefender

Key Deefender - that sent chills down the spine - are you sure you weren't the one telling Schwabby all this over the weekend to make him put pen to paper and sign on as CEO!!!!!!?????

No surprise. Absolute crock of shite. Stynes and his mates have had this up their sleeve for months. Bloody hell I hope they know what they are doing. This bloke has been in charge of the Tigers (enough said), sent us over the cap and Fremantle are the whipping boy of the competition. Don't be fooled by the change in financial position for Freo. Anyone could turn a football club around in that economic climate. Cashed up companies looking for sponsorship and corporate entertainment.

What the Hell are you Talking about???? Freo were $8 mill in Debt when Schwabb took over 8 Mill. Now as a Business they are number 3 in the AFL. Schwabb is a very smart man, & i for one am stoked he has returned. Stynes said yesterday he had not spoken to Cameron in 10 years-I believe him. Who cares anyway-That Mateship thing was a media Beatup. Obviously Chris Conolly & Schwabb work well together-GOOD!! What we want is Business Harmony. Everybody working in the Same direction.

When our new CEO signs up new Sponsorships & Deals over the next Month I shall be reminding you of this thread & asking whether you would have done a better job. Which i doubt......

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
