Guest unstable punt Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 When I saw the replay of the mark, play on, point it seemed as though he was under the impression the ball was touched. Darcy and the other bloke on the 5th quarter both said they were quite impressed with him today I'm one of his biggest knockers but apart from disposal being pathetic he wasn't bad in the ruck contest, still need to get R.Warnock
Doggo 32 Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Doggo, your very stubborn mate, I think I remember you from the dees - saints supporters games & I don't remember seeing you watching sandy games much. I've seen the best of jamar including his purple patches with kicking & his poor performances, & he can do nearly all of it when it comes out of him instinctively, when he doesn't overthink the situation. When people who lack self belief have too much time to think, the self doubt can cause mistakes. He needs us to be supportive & cheer when he does well & to say, c,mon mate when he lacks effort. Games of experience & good ol' cheering for his good stuff will help him enormously. But we do need to keep him on his toes. Haha thanks, people say that to me all the time.. It has been a couple of years since i've headed down to watch Sandy play (i used to live nearby but now am around an hours drive away from TBO), but from what i've seen, heard and read about MJ, at that level he has always been very good. His form in the VFL has never been the issue. Whether or not he has the ability and self-belief to mentally adapt to playing against the best, as you mentioned, as well as IMO his questionable kicking action and physical limitations, have always been more of the problem. This year he's gone a long way towards rectifying a lot of his flaws, but IMO he still isn't there yet. Harsh maybe, but in even his best games at AFL level, i've yet to see anything that tells me his decision making will one day be consistently of an AFL standard. I cheer big Jamar on every week, as i do each every player wearing a red and blue jumper, and have been really pleased with his form recently. But a few good weeks doesn't make a career, and at this stage i'm still a skeptic. Hopefully, one day in the near future, when Jamar is a superstar, we can dig this post and up and u can all say 'told u so' and i'll eat my humble pie... But don't count on it. He's far from proven at AFL level IMO.
demonate 0 Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Pavlich. He'd be fairly handy that would be the same as getting Jono Brown both 26 years old (pav's probably got more life) who could they get thats a gun forward under 25?

He's far from proven at AFL level IMO. I agree with most of what you say, but I've learnt in my travels that not all fish are alike, some taste better through different cooking methods. I see a big upside in this kid, who to me has had a low self esteem rather than perrenial low confidance. I believe he has more ablility than he thinks he has, self esteem rather than confidance, but this can change through plenty of games of experience & success & appreciation from his peers & barrackers. Some people think that there better than what they are, then get consistently shown up by opponents & the confidance takes a hammering causing loss of faith, ageing footballers getting too slow, or kids with big ego's. I believe Jamar will surprise with the right support. Ps, I don't think Jamar will ever be a superstar, but I can Imagine him being a Lade or Keating or Cloke snr, or such.
H_T 3,049 Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I suspect with White, we might have snatched the win. Suspect again. BTW heard a whisper the Dees will be aggressively seeking a big-name forward. Good source. We'll see... What? Jack Watts.
H_T 3,049 Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Brad Moran could be anything. He's 200cm and quicker than Buddy off the mark, I remember reading on BigFooty that a few people thought he was being played out of position in the ruck at the Moran? Any relation to Underbelly...
Eastie Boyz 0 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 He was born in England so probably not haha. Slightly different body shape to pot-belly Moran as well
H_T 3,049 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 If Jamar is contracted another year, I can't see him going.
Doggo 32 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Ps, I don't think Jamar will ever be a superstar, but I can imagine him being a Lade or Keating or Cloke snr, or such. The superstar comment was 'tongue in cheek', though i understand your points. I think Jamar still has a long way to go to reach Lade or Keating's heights, and in my honest opinion i don't think he'll ever be as good as either of those two. But i'm happy to wait and see, and as long as he's in a Melbourne jumper i'll support him. Having said that, he would be one of the first players i'd be looking to trade come seasons end, for whatever we could get. Especially should R.Warnock come to the club. The Russian's doing his trade value no harm at the moment and ruckman traditionally demand a reasonably high price.
DeeM 42 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I hope Jamar will stay. We need him and he is a good player. IMO Buddy isnt very quick off the mark
Guest Schtacker Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 What about Jamar and Bruce to Carlton for their first pick 7?ish I can really only see us having one of Jamar, Warnock and Naitanui next year. I'd imagine it will be Warnock.
H_T 3,049 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I can really only see us having one of Jamar, Warnock and Naitanui next year. I'd imagine it will be Warnock. What is Jamar's age? 23?
Doggo 32 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 What is Jamar's age? 23? He turns 25 on Saturday. FWIW, PJ just turned 24 and Meesen 22, both had their birthdays in June. Freo's Robbie Warnock is 21, turning 22 in January next year.

Freo's Robbie Warnock is 21, turning 22 in January next year. Herald Sun Player Ranking Points from last Saturday Jamar 84 P.Johnson 83 Hille 63 Laycock 23 39 to 20 hitouts. It would be fair to say we won the ruck duties. Very happy wih our ruck department atm. Jamar/Johnson combo is alright in my book.
Eastie Boyz 0 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I hope Jamar will stay. We need him and he is a good player. IMO Buddy isnt very quick off the mark He's the quickest play at Hawthorn over 20metres

Go the Biff 3,474 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 still should get Warnock and play PJ forward IMO I'd like Warnock as well. While PJ & Jamar have improved, neither show enough to suggest that they'd be a No.1 ruck in a good side which is what we are trying to build. I'm happy enough with either of them as a No.2 ruck though. If you could combine Johnson's skills & agility with Jamar's grunt & new-found desperation in packs (maybe throw in Meeson's running ability) you'd have a pretty useful player. As it stands though, we have three NQR's. We need a first ruck badly & Robbie Warnock ticks most of the boxes.
Guest TheVoice Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Jamar will break our hearts continuously in crunch situations by making the wrong decisions and costing us dearly. While yes, he has made significant steps forward this year, I would suggest he is now at a standard of what you might expect of a 1st or 2nd year ruckman. Whether he can progress past this stage is doubtful given his woeful ground and decision making skills. I cringe everytime he goes near the ball and pull my hair out everytime he panics and turns it over. PJ cuts the mustard in all the departments Jamar doesnt yet not convinced he will be our number 1 in the future, although I would be more than happy with him backing up and playing a role elsewhere. We should probably hang on to Jamar at years end given Whiteys almost certain departure and a distinct lack of ruck depth thereafter. If we can snag Warnock, I am happy for Jamar to play back up until spencer is up to the challenge. However if we miss the boat with Warnock, we face another year of the crazy russians on field calamities. Please GOD give us Warnock!!
