A very "hands on" solution Wolf

P.S. See how easy it is to twist people's words by editing and quoting out of context!

As long as we get discounts when we show our dees membership

You cant skimp on the football operations and expect to compete against richer clubs with the primary business or bojective of winning matches. In past years we have been woefully underfunded in the area of player development. If we crimp the football department in quality personnel and resources we knee cap our on field performance. Unfortunately memberships and sponsorships ride to great extent on the ability to foster and generate a winning culture. And the alternative non football revenue sources have a high commercial risk and may not fit the charter or skills set of football club boards.

While we have the debt it constrains us from being able to actively and financially pursue other options. We must reduce that debt as a priority.

sadly we have been skimping for years and still made finals in seven of the last ten years.... If we put all our efforts into the football department then we have a bad run with injuries, retire superstars our revenue will decrease and we will be in the same situation as now.... we need to generate income that isn't effected by our performance regardless of commercial risk most of our board are fairly smart in the business world, so I'm sure we could find something

It is like moving money making away from footy so that you can just get the footy right. Do other businesses to that? I've no idea - i'm not a businessman by any stretch.

Yes and no... most business stay within their primary market but alot diversify their interests.... It's about spreading the risk around so when something goes down like our form we have something that helps it out (outside revenue) and when our form is up and making money for the club through sponsership/members etc we can put a little extra in the other revenue stream to make us money in the bad times.

Agree Wolf. I think Daniher and team did a fair job with poor facilities and limited development budget. People forget that. However I am concerned that while we might recruit well in the draft we just dont develop this talent as well as other Clubs and where we could be an emposing side in the finals we merely make up numbers and disappear without a whimper. I guess the question you could ask is had we committed more to development, would we have not plateaued like we did in 2004 to 2006? I know there would be a variety of influences on these outcomes but surely this would be a key.

I would be worried if we skimp further on a division that has suffered funding limitations especially with the upside with the core U23.

woohoo...not too shabby at all . Go Dees

Hopefully there will be incentive packages to sign up before years out for next year. Some better payment schemes etc.

We want a base of 30 looking at 35 in the next couple of years.. well done all :)

I always wondered that myself.... is the reason we don't have a superstar at Melbourne because of the poor facilities/limited budget or because we never got someone good enough?

Do the kids progress better at other clubs?

p.s I agree we shouldn't skimp... but lets not go silly on development spending

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
