Draft Picks Question?

Featured Replies

Assuming we finish last this year, we would obviously aquire pick 1 (Natununi), but what draft pick selections would follow?

We can finish last and not get pick #1. Richmond and Carlton still qualify for priority picks under the new draft regime.

Impossible to say this early who the top 10 will be. Injuries could play a factor in where a kid is drafted.

Assuming we finish with less than 18 points, we would qualify for a priority pick after the first round.

So, Carlton and Richmond tanking notwithstanding, we would have #1, #17, #18, #34, #50...

pick 1: Nicholas Natanui

pick 17: Charles Shaw

pick 18: someone else as good

16.5 points. not 18.

16.5 points. not 18.

Can we stop this never ending argument?

How about we all say 4 wins 18 losses and we get a shiny toy surprise. Any more and we don't.

2009 is going to be a thin draft. I'm conflicted on what to do, trade up then or now? Not at all?

2010 will be a fat draft (because of the increase in age) for the clubs with picks 6 - 13 and 16 - 30. But 2011 and 2012 will be back to a normal draft and if with the concessions still in place we better be on our way by then.

PS. I am in favour of giving teams that lose players to GC and WS compensatory picks, but it's difficult to arbitrate that. I'm sure clubs will bring it up.

it will stop if people dont get it wrong. 4 wins and a draw wont get us the pick.

I did say LESS than 18, deanox. Since 16.5 is impossible to achieve, I thought it was just as poignant. If you can deduce a way to get between 16.5 and 18 points, thus rendering my statement inaccurate, I will accede to your superior knowledge.

Just say, NOT MORE THAN 4 WINS.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
