As good as the start to our season has been if we don’t win a flag it means close to nothing, what we would be able to salvage is that we know our best is good enough to beat anyone, also that Richmond and Geelong are closer to the end of their window and ours has just opened. But it would be hard not to see this year as a missed opportunity if we don’t achieve the ultimate. We only need to look at the Adelaide game to see how easy things can go the other way regardless of who we may beaten have before. If Brown or any other player for that matter makes us as little as 1% better they must come in. There’s can be no more room for feel good story’s, Jones got his 300th on a night of timely occasion but that’s it, are to we believe that he might get a late call up should we make the GF, a fitting way (should we win) for him to end his career. The justification as to why Weid should not make way for Brown is almost laughable considering the modern history of our club.

Great post.

There’s a thread started recently titled “Our kids are doing great”, not only are our young players doing great but the majority of our players have made improvements in their games. To suggest Weid hasn’t had any decent development is not true. He was drafted in 2015 so he’s had Roos and Goodwin as senior coaches as well as assistants including Brendan McCartney, Alan Richardson and more recently Choco and Yze. But since when has kicking Beene now issue of his? He had a shocker last night, but he is normally a great set shot, his misses last night were very gettable. Our defence is outstanding but not the only reason where winning goals, and yes we could be winning by more but we still don’t have a settled forward line. Players need to accept some accountability.
-
I think the last couple of years have been different. A lot of people aren’t saying trade him, we’re simply saying drop him. Before last night’s game it was his marking “he’s getting to contests but they’re just not sticking”, but last night his kicking was off too. Full forward is a key position, no one would have us where we are without a settled forward line. Just because we’ve been winning doesn’t mean we can’t improve. As people have also mentioned someone might have an off game but other players star. He’s had 4 games now and done very little. I would like to see Ben Brown give a run of 4-6 games to let him settle into the side.
-
And he’s had years.
-
A key forwards job is so exactly that and he’s not. I don’t care that Ben Brown did nothing two weeks in the VFL, he’s an experienced proven player that never should have been dropped to begin with.
-
I wish I was there, due to some personal family reasons was unable to go. Will be looking at getting tickets for QB though.
-
I don’t want to see him go either, but problem is as we know is there’s already not enough talent for 18 clubs as it stands. If we go deep into September and he’s not part of it, the offers will come. Still a long way to go this year, as we’ve already seen a lot can happen.
-
Yes some reactions are, as you’ve mentioned before sometimes the disposal going inside fifty isn’t great but come finals that’s going to be par for course. I think an earlier poster nailed it when they said “when your only getting x number of possessions you need to be nailing those goals”. His kicking let him down tonight, we know he’s better than that.
-
Hipwood was massive in the first half, Daniher is the most unpredictable player in the competition. But I don’t know much about Brisbane’s list, have they got a experienced full forward with three consecutive years of kicking 60+ plus goals sitting back in the seconds unable to get a game. Again like the win last week against the dogs, when the game was effectively won Weid was not sighted. We know the talent is there but again, if Brown got dropped for a poor sighting against Carlton then it’s time for the Weid to go back.
-
This.

So has he kept his spot for next week based on that performance? No doubt he has talent but he has effectively gone missing for large parts of all the games he’s played this year. His set shots tonight showed a man devoid of confidence. He’s had his chance and now it’s time to let Ben Brown settle in the side.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Brisbane
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don’t get the hate for the Weid, he clearly did more than Brown against Carlton. -
Great test tonight, not only because it’s Brisbane who are in form but for the the first time this season for us back to back perceived difficult opponents. I’ve asked myself a few times had we beaten Adelaide would we have the same result last Friday night. I’d like to think it would have, we came switched on when we had to against Geelong, Richmond and the Swans but those games were spaced against easier opponents. I think a win is highly probable and what I find interesting is that we’re still not settled on our key forwards.

Why Can't Sam Complete his Marks?
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Kent's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is it just me or has Gawn been dropping a few marks that he would normally takes over the last 2-3 weeks. The first part of the season he was marking everything all over the ground. -

Sorry Jaded, I meant stay there for a block of games. Good point with regards to crowds which I hadn’t considered when posting. -

Why can’t the lions travel to Melbourne and stay there in isolation? -
My metrics for a key forward primarily is taking marks and kicking goals. That’s what Brown did against the Swans in a tight game. We need to remember his first game against the North was not only his first game in a while, his first game for us and for a team that had come off a big win against the Tigers are were clearly flat. Weid was quiet against the Crows and in the last qtr when the game was there to be won, didn’t touch the footy. Then went on to have one handball in the first half against the dogs when the game was hot. Yes he kicked two goals in the third (and yes I celebrated them) but by then I believe we had control of the game. I believe had Jackson not had gotten injured and we went in unchanged against Carlton Brown would have done more. But based on his poor showing for Casey Weideman stays in regardless of his output.

Please stop avoiding the question. Who did more in their two games without the other playing?
-
Past form...current form....how much more current do want then Rd 7 & 8? I’ve simply asked you to remove the Carlton game from calculations as that is the one you keep referencing as to where Weid performed better than Brown. Based on our team structures when Jackson is in the side and both Brown and Weid have both had two games each without the other playing to put their case forward. I’ve asked you to compare those and you have chosen not to. I’m of the opinion based of the opinion that Brown did more in rounds 7 & 8 then Weids did in 10 & 11. So as for the anti Weid sentiment you are wrong, I think what you will find is what people are after is what you said earlier, and that is “we’ve waited so long to build a genuinely competitive culture and some want yo throw it out the window at first chance”. VFL form is one thing doing at the top is another. Brown has done more is his two games yet was dropped for his efforts.
-
Can we remove the Carlton game out of the equation because it didn’t work with the cluster f#*k of talls as we are all aware, so comparing stats is pointless. Now let’s compare Brown v North and Sydney against Weid v Crows and Dogs. For me Browns output in those games, more so the Sydney game outweigh what Weid has produced. Brown’s involvement in the Swan’s game far outweighs his lack of involvement in the VFL.

So many posts talking about Weid getting to contests and creating opportunities, and it’s only a matter of time until he starts clunking them. Weid has been in the system for a while now. Regardless of who plays they need to be taking those marks more often than not, we’re a genuine contender this year, no passengers full stop.
