Nat Fyfe
Gold Coast are nuts if they give away 2 early first round picks for Fyfe. Haven't they learned their lesson with their injury decimated midfield this year? Why spend such valuable draft currency on someone who has a shocking recent injury history? It's the very definition of high risk / high reward, but I wouldn't be taking the chance, particularly if this draft is the high talent one its rumoured to be.

Billy Stretch Appreciation Thread
He wasn't under the same pressure as the inside mids, but it's nice to see someone who can hit a target after getting the ball in space. Yes, I'm looking at you M.Jones. I think Stretch will be one of our top 10 players once he matures.

Some people refuse to take of the rose colored glasses stu. but, but, but, we are GOING to be so good! We were a young team when we were playing all of our early draftees during the Baily/Neeld years, and what happened then?

Smacks of the Tigers trying to recruit anyone of note, even if it doesn't actually fit into any forward planning at all. Panic recruiting. Look at our shiny new recruit, aren't we the best!! Dumb Brisbane, just dumb

That's the issue though Wise. Why not throw that cash at a bloke who will play good footy, and will be around longer? McDonald would be a great idea for them. Even, dare I say it Watts. Josh Jenkins? Nah, I really don't get what they are trying to do, if that cash is even close to being correct.

Like Jamar? You dont pay that sort of cash unless the bloke is a star. How desperate is Brisbane? My god.

Yeah, so did I. I even fell for our pre-season form, and had a few pesos on us making the 8. *sigh*

But we haven't been belted weekly SWYL. And we wont know if Melksham's recruitment has hurt us, before he has played a single game. (yes, I know I said differently last year) maybe you will see melky come in and be a mainstay from day 1. He certainly fits with the "take no schit" players we have picked up recently. I know I campaigned heavily against picking him up, but now that he is ours, I cant wait to see him knocking people ars over head, across the half back line.

AFL need to look into Rhys Mathieson!
If I was the tackler, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Cheating coward.

Yes he is.

I will take your word on that. Don't want to hijack the MCC thread, but does anyone have info on whether Oliver will play on ball, or will he play across half forward this week?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Ahhh, ok. Thanks for that. I'm in the group that will fork out that amount for Trident or whatever membership once we look like regular finalists, but I certainly wouldn't do it now, considering the extra memberships I buy for family each year. (I'm not on speaking terms with 2 of them). Oh, by the way, Clayton Oliver looks like he might be a good player for us.

I don't, I'm presuming Stak. Can you advise how much an MCC membership is please?

You know SWYL, having shared a few beers with you during the broadcast of a game, and sampled your fiery (passionate) disposition when the Dees play, I never pegged you as a MCC member. Never judge a book hey....

In fairness Stakk, I would think that you are preaching to the converted here. The die hard Dee. If all of us had the coin, we would be slobbering our beers all over you in the MCC members also. Im not so sure you can make it a simple debate of "I pay more for my membership, therefore I'm the better and more knowledgeable member". I'm not in the camp that thinks the MCC members are pretend members, but spare a thought for those of us who cant afford the same cash that you can please. We care just the same, even if we drink a goon sack, while you sip MOET.

I'm looking forward to watching you play Clarry, and thanks for reading Demonland.

Not sure about any angst towards the MCC. What's wrong with good dental health, and a decent fashion sense?

GWS made the mistake of recruiting players from the same junior club, or the same state, as a way of attempting to alleviate the "go home" factor. They should have backed themselves, and taken best available. Having said that, imagine their midfield with Adams and Treloar back in the squad. we would be touching ourselves like crazy if our midfield had as much talent. They really should have a cracker side this season.

4 competitive types in that whole list, and none of them a maniac like Viney. Oliver (by reputation) certainly signals a continuation of a very un-Melbourne direction. I hope he is as crazy at the ball as we have heard. Madmen with skill, win finals. Wouldnt we all love to see a winning final again?

This thread will continue to veer off in various directions, until we have seen him play. Annoying as it is, nobody can give informed comment yet, therefore the conversation gets sidetracked easily.

While I love the look of that, I must admit that I was almost as excited by Scully Trengove Morton Gysberts Tapscott Maric Jones Strauss (for a very short time) God, what a bloody awful group of players.

Cotchin is better than Oliver ?

Ive seen you say this many times on here. I've been saying for years, that the world is full to the brim, with incredibly stupid people. Try working in a coal mine, where the average income, is around twice the average i.q of the workers. If you want to fit in, just add "ay" to the end of every sentence. As for the argument about Jones/Cotchin, haven't people, since the beginning of time, been saying that the greats should be judged by their influence in finals? Compare Cotchin with Hodge. Sometimes raw talent cant overcome whats lacking inside the head. Thats not to say that Cotchin isn't more talented than Jones. I just dont think the gap is all that big.

Back on topic, it will be nice to finally have talls who fly for the ball with "elite courage" Makes the mids much more confident to take a bailout long kick, when they have something to kick to. I hope this guy develops as a top ten pick should.

What? A pre arranged strategy by who? You think the Dees wanted him, or he wanted to play for us, so that he had less pressure than playing with the pies? omg..... I reckon we might have chosen him because we think he might make a great KPF at some time in the future.
