You judge what players have done in Todays Game, against what players did in Yesterdays Game. Every discipline that can be difinitively measured, says modern athletes are better. Again, I say that only in those sports that have "opinion" as a decider, will there ever be an inconclusive argument, as to who was the better athlete. I dont swallow the subjective argument, over something that is plain for the eye to see. FWIW, I thing Barassi, brought forward to todays game, would be a run of the mill, everyday player, and not the messiah that he is painted as. The other bloke I struggle with is the so called legend, Ted Whitten. Would not get a spot on the bench today. And before anyone starts to talk about "toughness", I would wager that a modern Barry Hall, Glen Archer, and even Mitch Robinson, would not only be tougher than most from the bygone era, they would be more skillfull than anyone else, including the likes of Skilton etc. If you want to have a look at football from yesteryear, download a vid of when Nth Melb was winning flags in the 70's, and compare it to today. Dont say "what if", just compare what you see, with today. Take our side from now, back to the 70's, and we would win flag after flag, after flag. Times change, as does the human body. Evolution wins every time, especially with the help of science.

Here we go again I would wager a bet that I am not the only long term 'Ology poster, who looks at that site first, because its my "home site", then goes to 'Land, because I can get much more info from that site, due to weight of numbers, and the presence of some very thoughtful, and seemingly in-the -know posters. Both sites have their share of bone heads, and show ponys, but equally, both sites are unmissable for the fanatic Dees supporter. Like I said before, if 'Ology dies, you might pick up some fantastic, knowledgeable posters, and maybe some nuffers, but 'Land would certainly be better off. Personnaly, Dee Flower is undeniably negative, but also mostly accurate. Same with Bluey, on a smaller scale. Both are often good reading, as long as you lick the salt prior.

just sent you my email ad Your first time, or done it before?

Simple fact is, they didnt. And I think that argument is nonsensical, as it assumes the players mentioned would even be able to accept the realities of todays game. Surely past players should only be judged on what they did, not what they could have done? Its like assuming a modern player would perform the same as he does now, if he was time warped back 50 years. Without the expectation of his coaches, modern medical science/traing/recovery techniques, of course he would be less effective. You cant change something that happened 50 years ago. Its just the way it is.

Anywhere near Davao? If you need any info on the place, let me know.

Yep. I sponsor a basketball team, and they seem to enjoy the after match entertainment

I dont get back there much now, although I was a screaming mess in my folks house for the essedon win. A full bottle of Johnny Double Black, and 2 Zantac got me through the nerves. I'm working in the Solomon Islands, on a 2 week on/off roster, and just bought myself a house in the Philippines. (near Abu Sayef country in southern Mindanao) Nothing better than relaxing a my Kubo, with a dozen filipinas, while necking a few litres of cold Red Horse. Unlikely that I will be back for a full break, until August, or even September. Will let you know if Ding and I are about. faulty. And to all on here, if 'Ology folded, you would certainly pick up a few quality posters. There are a few who have great training info, and very good opinions on matters football. Even the self-centered jerkoffs like TGR are actually good reading occasionally, if you can put the "look at me" to the side, and read the info itself. I would hope the site gets up and going, in a new format soon, because without new members, it is doomed, as the site nutters just wont let things go and keep to a topic, without slagging off and getting aggressive.

Hi Rob. yes, of course he is my brother. I still think he sounds half crazy when he is tearing into the other nutter. You ought to hear the way he talks about the bloke in person. omg Anyway, i just wish the site owner would hand it over to someone so it can be fixed for good, as it has been dying a slow death for the last couple of years.

I care. I like to shake my head at the resident lunatics, Ding and HHNF. Almost zero football content, but they make me feel better about myself.

lol, Really? I mean Really? The thing that makes an argument like yours nul and void, is that the ancient fossils named in your list (matthews excepted), were never submitted to testing. Todays players are. Faster Fitter More Skilled (by LIGHT YEARS) Better Coached etc, etc, etc I would prefer Dipper, Worsfold, and Archer, if you want players of a byegone era. At least we would get a boost in an area that is lacking. Like the old cricket argument over which team would win, Bradmans, or Waughs. Steve and the boys would have been on the booze by lunch on day 4

There is a big noter like you on the other Dees site. I'm sure you get under the skin of many people you meet. Tell us about your "certain field of work", and why it makes you a better judge than others. And why the "if u aint dun it, how do u know" rule doesnt apply to you? Our supporters have every right to be critical of what we have been enduring. We dont need to have been a listed AFL level player to have an opinion on the things we see.

I would rent a defibrillator I would put aside my hatred of illicit drugs, and fear of needles. I would say a tearful goodbye to the remaining stub of my liver. I would scorch my retinas with replay overload. And i would smile, for the world would once again be a happy place. But..... Its not going to happen in my lifetime either. Sometimes you really do need to realise that you support a lost cause.

Correct Robbie. And when in doubt, we always blame the faulty det.
-
Our players will show what they normally show when under the pump. Nothing. This game will be embarrasing by half time. I pity my nephew who will be in the croud in his new jumper. I hope he remembers to take the logo off his jumper, as i can imagine some of the eagles fans wont need too much of a spur to start punching heads. The saddest thing to come out of all of this, is that we will now be known as racist skiers, when none of this garbage was our doing.

JWICGAW... What the hell does that mean? Am i the only one that wishes people wouldnt do this so often? As for the story, I cant believe so many people are carrying on like this situation is our doing. The board is there for a reason. Imagine Schwab making a decision by himself to ditch them, then the press finds out the blokes facebook account had been hacked? (Obviously it wasnt, and I hope people pick up what I am putting down) Smith is a [censored].

Eddie McFat would demand the first 3 picks in the draft.

I think all 4 will play. Will be nice to have a midfield that doesn't cower from a contest.

Port Adelaide v Melbourne NAB Cup Week 4
faultydet replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could not possibly agree more. This is depressing -
The rule is there to prevent someone taking a mark on the goal line, and walking outside 50, to take a kick for 9. Makes sense
-
No its not. He is lazy and soft. All the skills in the world, but will not allow body contact, and only gives half hearted chases. Would probably be in the top 10 players in the league if he gave 100% regardless of which way the ball was heading. And you are correct, I have no respect for that side of his game whatsoever.
-
We are talking defensive pressure, not overall output. Liam provides as much as Russell Robertson did. If you think different, you are watching a different Liam Jurrah
-
How long did our staff have to change Russell Robertson and Adam Yze? Robbo refused to chase until the end, and Yze remained Morton like in his defensive pressure for his entire career also. I know we have new coaches now, but the point I am trying to make is that leopards rarely do change their spots, regardless of how many brush strokes you might apply.
-
Thats the bit i cant see happening. He NEVER pulls his weight for the team. Never, as in not ever. If he is not kicking goals out of his arz, he is contributing absolutely nothing to the team cause apart from making the other team commit a decent defender to him. I am against having decoys in the forward line who do not apply defensive pressure. I hope Neeld sees it the same way, as it needs to change.
-
If Neeld refuses to buckle, and doesnt play blokes who refuse to chase their opponent, dont go in hard, or simply squib it, what sort of trade do you think we will get for Jurrah at the end of the year? I was at the essendon game this year, and a hard coach would not have played him in the seniors for the rest of the year. I was sickened by how gutless he was. Simply refuses to go body on body with anyone, regardless of size. I would love to see him playing for Casey, after a single performance like that.
