Laurie's debut was earlier this year.

He was talking about the English wicket-keeper, not the MFC.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Frawley was an All Australian. What has McKay done? -
For what it's worth I think Brodie will come back in and still play more ruck time than Max. This period gives Grundy a freshen up and hopefully a bit of time to work on some forward skills and Max to get his hands on the ball for a few games. When Grundy comes back he will still be a ruckman, who can hopefully get in the way less as a forward when he needs to, and Max will be a very tall forward target who can have very damaging spells on the ball. No way Grundy comes back as a key forward. He is a smart player and will be on board with the plan and most likely part of the decision making process about all this. And no, I have no inside information, just the way I am reading the tea leaves. A bit like Barrett's opinion but I use better quality tea!

What They Are Saying at Springfield

Thought he was already on their board. -
The first goal 4 times stat intrigued me when I heard it last night. Eager to hear your thoughts on why. For my thoughts, I put it down to him being focussed/on from the get go. Think he just gets an effort jump on his opponent.

I will say, a nice red and the right pie is heavenly.......... -
Picket, sometimes you have more bias than a lawn bowl.

Wow, Spargo 95, that seems to have gone by fast.
-
Yes, my thought too. My memory has him reportedly being quite miffed that he was cut to accommodate the risky young Hayes (??)

Is the 4th umpire our ex-rookie, Andre Gianfagna?

Time to bring back King Nev then!!

Verrall's size is coming along nicely. Good prospect to follow with interest. -
I think the difference between WCE and Nth is astonishing.

I always thought Melksham was the perfect sub; but, for Casey last week I didn't see anything defensive from him. Despite his numbers I thought he was lazy and not what I would like to see in the firsts. For what it's worth I also thought Spargo looked frustrated and out of touch. Needs some time to regain composure.

I'm fully of the view the the player going for, getting and playing the ball should be protected. A bit sick of the snipers waiting off for a ball player to win the ball only to pile on and often the guy trying to make the play gets penalised. I love good tackling but primacy should always go with the ball player.

I normally don't like to comment on umpires in our games, no matter how bad I feel it was, as I realise I'm coming from a biased point of view. But when I see the inconsistencies in games I have no investment in it says to me the issue is real. It is not umpires making mistakes, that can happen. It's when the inconsistency starts at crucial times in a game affecting momentum or stopping a run on etc that I get really annoyed and frustrated. There should never be a pile on to individual umpires but unless there are complaints about the collective nothing will change. There should be scrutiny on umpires as they are well paid, not full time, but we'll paid. That the AFL doesn't allow it is a huge part of the problem. Openess and scrutiny will improve the overall quality of umpiring and stop the AFLs collusion, real or perceived, of umpires to control outcomes of games. I'm of the view that they are instructed to keep results close or from blowing out where possible. I don't care if a free kick count is one sided, so long as the decisions are applied consistently.
