CASEY: Rd 12 vs Essendon VFL
The highlight for me was Verral coming of age in the ruck. He played a great game and has learnt from Max to pluck the tap and kick the ball. Kalani's last quarter was fantastic. 2 goals a few marks and some great taps. Don't show too much form, otherwise the other buzzards will put an early bid in on him.

CASEY: Rd 12 vs Essendon VFL
Shiel is putting on a clinic, but how he cannot get a game is surprising. They have some big, strong key position players showing up Jed as he isn't big enough or strong enough. I dislike bagging a player, but Fullarton should drag himself and go and have a shower right now. He doesn't want any body contact, fumbles, cannot take a mark and is embarrassing himself. Therevare a few Casey guys busting their guts and having a go. He is not. Culley isn't getting in the play and that tackle will cost him.

The Kalani White Thread
At the pre-Christmas Saturday morning park run and sausage sizzle, he was signing as #34 Kal White> Funnily enough, when I said that's your dad's number, he quickly replied, "It's mine now"

Agree. The lap of honour, the interaction with every player, made my eyes leak. This looked more like a final farewell to me. He is one of my heroes.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Maybe one of the officiating umpires today could come over and serve it to him on a platter, just like they did for the Pies today. Even the Pies supporters around us today were embarrassed when Daicos got the fake push in the back late in the game. He kicked a point, and how much did they win by?

What its the best structure
I watched the last 2 Casey games, and despite the poor opposition, it struck me that the structure with the 2 key forwards (Jefferson & JVR) is working a treat. They team together well and it takes me back to the days of Ross Dillon & Greg Parke since I have seen two genuine talls interchange between the 2 key posts. Perhaps their time at Casey will develop them into a lethal combo. Brisbane did it last year with Daniher and Hipwood, with medium-sized, smaller forwards buzzing around them. Rayner, Berry, Cameron, Ah Chee, Bailey & Lohmann, with Morris as the third tall, won a flag. The Pies ideally want Mihocheck & McStay as their key forwards, with assistance from their rucks to provide marking power. The support team is McCreery, Elliot, Hiil and the Daicos boys (De Goey) if fit. Geelong have always had Hawkins and Cameron I cannot help but feel our forward structure is a bit light on. Petty has been forward and back, Melk plays his role, but is 33, Kozzie cannot be everywhere, and Chin, Sharp are role players. I am not sure where Fritta fits in. In short, I believe we have at best a makeshift forward line. In 21 we had Brown and Tommy with Jackson up forward. Trac, NIbbler, Ftitta and Kozzie all playing as forwards even Harmes. I think to advance after this year, we need a better structure built around 2 key marking forwards. Langford is big enough to play permanent forward and a bit more class than we have. What does everyone else think? I so hope that JVR & Jeffo take the next step

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
That was horrible to watch. Inaccurate kicking, bruise free and so typical and why none of us trust MFC always have a go. And not for the first time have we kicked so many points. To me at this stage Windsor is not a backman, yet. He is like a dear in the headlights when his oponent runs towards the goals. THis galling as last week Mathew Whelan at the lunch was asked about Sestan. His reply was they aren't sure he can be trusted yet if his oponent takes him back to the goal square. Well I can confirm that this is the case with Windsor. Play him on the wing and let him run I thought Langford looked in need of a break. He is 18 and has been great but looks fatigued. He was trailing his oponent a lot Who was playing on Wangannen-Milera? Someone has to take responsibility. Bailey Laurie is a good VFL player but imo is too short, slow and not quite a good enough kick for AFL. He gave us nothing when he came on Marking forward desperately needed. Someone who will contest and bring the ball to ground. Johnson almost did this but his kicking for goal isn't good enough atm I shudder to think what Collingwood will do next week if we apply the same level of pressure next week. It could get ugly Lever is very good at pointing but should have stayed at Casey until he got match fir and adjusted to the tempo.

My 3 word player analysis V StKilda
MFC: heartbreaking to follow Langford: Needs a rest Windsor: Not a backman Pressure: 8th worst ever Forward line: Tall mark needed (ability to kick straight an advantage) Coaching: Lyon wins again Goal kicking: Words fail me Backline: : Missing Tom McDonald Laurie: Too the answer (

CASEY: Rd 08 vs Southport
Ollie is what we would call a natural footballer rather than an athlete. He reads the play, makes good position, rarely fumbles, and hits targets by hand and foot. Sam Radford has been full of praise for Ollie and he did get named emergency early in the year. Despite this being his third season he is still learning after a switch to halfback and is worth another season at least and I expect he will get a game soon. From the 18-year-old drafted he has got fitter, completely changed his body shape, and is now consistently getting 20-plus possessions. His other trait is he tackles unlike some of our more fancied players. All of these attributes have come to the attention of other clubs who are following his progress as well seeing he cannot get a game.

CASEY: Rd 08 vs Southport
Which coach has them cut back into the corridor? The lack of skill to hit a target has cost 3 goals so far. I think Jeffo just did a hammy but has contributed little. The lack of skill and turnovers is unforgivable. Kolton having a mare and cannot get near the ball and just like the seniors our forward line structure and cohesion is sub standard. We have 18 AFL players on the park today and they are getting pantsed by Southport.

PREGAME: Rd 10 vs Brisbane
Fritch out and don't play until he decides to contribute to team play and defend (that may never happen). Jeffo was a bad idea and did him no favours and will be dropped while Spargo needs to contribute more but may survive. Kolt 2 weeks as sub may need a full game at Casey In Petty and Melk. Sestan had 24 disposals today and was selected up forward. Maybe debut him against the Swans. Brown continues to be a tackling machine but like Laurie I am unsure if they can lift to play seniors. FWIW Goodwin was full of praise for Clarrie as he tagged their prime mover Newcombe and played the role asked of him. He isn't going anywhere

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Hawthorn
I am afraid he is no longer worthy of a game. He doesn't contest, tackle or chase. He hangs out the back hoping for the cheap and now his 1 wood, accuracy has gone) Go to Casey and stay there until he shows some willingness to contribute (he may be there a long time).

Any word on May? If he has plantar fasciitis then surely there must be some doubt around him. I have had it and it is brutal, takes ages to heal and can often warrant surgery.

The Luke Beveridge Thread
TYou all have short memories. Roos wanted a coach in waiting to hand over to. Stewart Dew did not want to leave his assistant position in Sydney and Bevo said no because he didn't want to be an assistant in waiting, he wanted to be in a senior coaching role and not understudy for a few years. I was hoping he would come to Melbourne and told him that at the time. He is his own man and and went to the Dogs and won them a flag. Don't forget he showed Stringer the door for his unacceptable behaviour at the dogs and showed early on he wouldn't tolerate bad behaviour.

Time to go Goody?
OK so we are unwatchable, playing poorly and we have no recognisable team plan. How will sackin g Goodwinn fix this? The planning and training since last year has been overseen by Goodwin, the assistants and management whom I all hope are on the same page. Will any one of them step up and do it differently? The answer is NO we are just reacting to how bad we are and want to sack the coach. We cannot sack the players and I have no fear that whoever is interim coach will not do anything different. The time for personell change is later in the year not after round 5. Goodwin alone is not the problem.... On radio this morning allegedly Mark Bickley stated that he ran into Goodwin pre match and asked about his coaching tenure. Bickley stated that Goodwin told him it would be hard to come back from here. If true then Goody knows he is on thin ice. I also believe that he will do everything humanly possible as head coach to turn it around. Another rumour is that there will be a board meeting tomorrow night sigh discussing the coach. He isn't solely responsible, the assistants and players are not entirely blameless. I support my club and will abide with their decisions. I have no doubt they are all trying their level best to get it right and win, it just isn't happening and I have no control over it but I hope Goodwin in the short term can change it up.
