  1. I would be deeply disappointed if he went and played with another club without giving melbourne FC the first option, we have paid him a generous contract for very little football and have been extremely supportive of him and his health. I would truly like to believe he would not repay that faith and support by going to another club. He may want to move back to Perth, but there are a lot of footballers who are playing in places they would prefer not to be that is part of the game unfortunately, if he wants to go back to freo then we should be able to trade something for that, not just see him get picked up by Freo for nix.
  2. Riley at least brings in the right attitude and attacks the ball and the opposition, yes he may turn it over, but then I still think he is better than some of the spuds we have played who dont tackle, dont chase and dont have the right attitude and who still turn the ball over when they get it. Riley is still getting used to the team and AFL football so he is worth persevering with.
  3. Definitely depressing reading, I hope to hell the club has done analysis on who they drafted and why as well as what went wrong so that they hopefully do not repeat such vast stupidity.
  4. I think Fitzy did a decent enough job, his output equaled or bettered Frawleys of late when he played forward. The problem with the talls was the delivery and the lack of crumbers, I dont know where kent was playing during the game but I hardly sighted him doing anything creative. Bail was at least having a go,
  5. My 7 year old grandson just got a tackle buddy for his birthday, just blow it up and fill the bottom with water and your good to go. You think we can chip in and buy one for Jack.
  6. enough of the negative, we all know what went wrong time to see if we can see any light at the end of the tunnel. eagles kicked 13 of their goals in 2 quarters, I expect that was probably the end that their supporters were at, given the free kick count amongst other things. We will always be a man down playing in Adelaide and WA with the way the umpires are influenced by the local crowd. We were more competitive in the 2nd quarter and we won the last quarter on the score board, it can be said that the eagles had probably slowed down, but given they were after percentage I dont think they slowed down too much. We had a lot of passengers that will not be there next year, players who were not accountable for their man, did not man up, did not lead, did not chase, did not tackle, these players will be replaced with more proven players given Roo's strategy of trading some of our early draft picks. If we can pickup Malcheski and a couple of other quality players that will certainly help our backline defense. Our backline lacks a leader, Chip was supposed to be that leader but has failed to be the backline general when he is there, McDonald is a great spoiler but does not look to be a leader, i think Dunn is trying to be that leader but is probably not up to it. Next year Hogan will be playing forward for us, another year and preseason will help quite a few of our players, Gawn especially, if he can work on his marking a bit more, i.e. body position etc he would be a massive gain for our forward line as well as on the ball. We won a lot of the stats tonight including contested possessions, but strangely enough we were afraid to kick to a contest, surely if we are winning contested possessions you should be able to kick to our of your team mates to one side or another to give him some sort of advantage. We have early draft picks, and an outside chance at a priority pick which will help bring some quality either through the draft or trading. There is obviously the remote hope that Mich can get himself well and return to play for the Dees, Lastly only one more round of pain to go this year, before the optimism that comes with the draft season kicks in once more filling the remaining supporters with some form of hope for the future.
  7. we dont attack the player with the ball, everyone is so busy chasing their own man that they run past the man with the ball. In the final term a west coast player got the ball near our 50 meter line and jones ran right past him chasing his man instead of going at the man with the ball. It happened time and time again throughout our games. No protection for our own players again our guys are too worried about their men to help their own. hurry up and clean out this list.
  8. if he did not go with fitzy we would have been a few goals down. The problem was not going tall it was lack of skill in using that height to advantage, plus the fact that we were outplayed in every area that counts.
  9. frawley did not even attempt to go at la Cras appalling. Watts absolutely useless.
  10. fitzys doing well given the limited number of opportunities, sadly the same cannot be said for the smaller crumbers like Kent and bail. Too many demon players are too busy chasing their own men to go at the man with the damn ball. last goal to fitzy kent offered no protection by trying to shepherd, there is just no team work, these guys stand around expecting to do circle work with handball, instead of kicking. Bail took a mark on the transition and waved everyone to slow down what is with this side, we are already as slow as it gets... Michie makes some terrible decisions and even worse disposal. all in all its going the way I unfortunately expected.
  11. Roos should be giving it to them, Watts in particular lets see if they can actually do something about it.
  12. Fitzy selection maybe his audition for a place on next years roster. While he has not done a lot at Casey, who has, and with the crappy delivery he has had there maybe he can do better today, though our delivery is not exactly elite. Our problem is always going to be the West coasts midfield and rebounding half back line. We cannot afford to play an extra man on the ball if it means they have an extra in the backline, if that happens Hurn and others will kill us.
  13. we have recruited the same as every other club, it defies logic to think that we have gotten every pick wrong. The difference between us and other clubs is obviously our culture and development. We take a good potential player and do not develop him we allow them to cruise along, whereas in other clubs you need to work hard to earn a spot in their side sometimes waiting several years. We often played our new recruits early as we often lacked quality players. We have often had to pay players up front to use our salary cap potentially giving these guys a level of comfort that they would not get elsewhere. How many times have you seen players playing badly or playing not so well then turn it on for the last few games and then resign then go back to their old ways once the new season starts. At the same time a lot of bottom clubs have had their first round draft picks come in and have an immediate impact on the game, where as ours have not, this I think is a factor of they type of players we draft, we have tended to go for the lean greyhound look rather than the something more solid worker with reliable skills. I would love to see the MFC come out and say how they are going to improve their development process for younger players, so that supporters and would be draftees have a better idea of what we are doing. Obviously the $wan$ academy would provide us with some ideas on what we could do. Is there anything to actually stop us doing something like that, it may allow us to develop a few youngsters who may have allegiance to the club for taking them in and teaching them.
  14. I really not sure how many of the players you mentioned have ANY trade value, after all they cannot get a game in one of the worst performing sides in the AFL, why would someone show any interest in these Muppets.
  15. GWS will not be able to keep all of their players together there will be good if not potentially great players who will be playing in their seconds who cannot get a game who will move to go to another side that will play them our problem is making the MFC look an attractive destination, which half way through the year I thought we had accomplished. Sadly our second half has undone that. After all a players salary is tied to their ability and how well they play, you cannot keep pay large $$'s for lots of players playing in the reserves well unless your name is mitchell and you play for the $ydney $wan$. I think a few GWS players will still be looking at scully and co and thinking how much they are getting and will be wanting more. So GWS will loose players over time. As for free agency, it has come along all of a sudden and clubs have been slow to understand it, now they do, they will trade players that do not commit in their 6th year to contract extensions, I doubt you are going to see as many free agents kicking around in the future as clubs recognize they will often loose if they leave it to the players 7th year, though in the dee's case of frawley i think this is a win win situation if he goes.
  16. I think frawley was playing reasonably well in the early part of the year when up forward, but then so was a lot of other players. Frawleys lack of interest i think has coincided with the teams downward spiral which he in part with many other has contributed. I cannot blame him for leaving looking for more $$ is about looking after ones self and wanting to play in/win a grand final is the dream of all footballers, a dream our team could not make true for a lot of greats such as robbie Flower. So i wish him luck in that endeavor. If frawley has not already signed, which i doubt as he would have been trying to have his manager negotiate with as many clubs as possible to get the best offer, if he has not signed then he has devalued his own asking price considerably over the last year. If he has signed, well good luck someone other than us for once paid overs. Whatever compo we get for his i.e. round 1 or 2 picks is better than keeping him I am afraid. so obviously a bonus if we get a first round, but a second will still do. As we know all too well early draft picks do not guarantee a great or even good player, lot of good players have still come from later picks our challenge is to find those that are going to be the players we need.
  17. Other good sides have run backwards and win, not bounced and win. Our problem is how many times we turn it over and get punished for it as opposed to how many times opposition have lost the ball to us and we punished them, by punished them i mean we made them watch us handpass and kick it backwards woefully until the opposition fell over laughing.
  18. must admit I am a little bamboozled on the timing, doing it before the end of the season seems to saying we are not going to win any more games so it can look as if we are TXXXXXG, you know that thing that we were not found guilt of, but still being punished for if we loose and if by some miracle (i.e. Norf or Weagles loose then they will certainly be Txxxxxg) then they would say see you won 5 games good boys, no pp.
  19. supporters sit in the stand week after week and cheer them on, applaud them when they do well and sometimes, sing the song as they come off and there are times like Sunday when the fans just have to show their anger and frustration at the crap performance these professional footballers are putting up. To think we are paying our something like $10m per year to players who put in such a p!$$poor performance.
  20. anyone looking to offer Frawley a contract knows he can play when he puts his mind to it, and they may make obvious concessions over this years form give how poorly the team has played and the possible lack of interest shown by Frawley. Top clubs would also expect to get more out of Frawley and anyone else they take on so it is really going to come down to a bidding war as to who wants him and for how much. I doubt he has already signed a contract as that would mean he has not actually surveyed the market fully to see what others will offer. I expect who ever wants him is prepared to pay 600-700k per year for 3 years for him.
  21. the whole drug investigation is a farce if essendon is allowed to have backdated, offseason or light penalties. They have systematically run a drugs program for their players. ASADA is as much as a joke as the AFL who knew essendon were doing these sort of things before the day of shame revelations and did nothing about it.
  22. last time we met was truely embarrassment and sadly i think it will be again.
  23. if there is a chance of getting him back then keep him on the list on the long term injury list and that will allow you to promote a rookie just weeks we are one rookie short.
  24. I was at the game and noticed supporters booing before 3rd quarter time when melbourne was kicking the ball backwards and sideways instead of going forward, their defensive mindset is becoming an obsession with them where they will not kick forward to leading players in case they stuff it up, so they kick it around and and around and end up turn it over. The booing at 3 quarter time in my opinion was warranted to let the team know what we thought of their performance, it obviously fell on deaf ears as their last quarter was even worse. The booing at the end would not have only been MFC supporters but GWS supporters who saw a weak insipid opponent with no heart and no spine. At some point the players have to hit rock bottom for themselves before they either fight back or totally give up, this week against the eagles is going to be a real test to see who falls into what bucket. if they put in another performance like this against the eagles the west coast supporters will really let them have it. Sadly there are a lot of players out there who were playing for their careers and really you would not have known it from their performance.
