  1. In many of the video highlights oliver was looking pretty chunky, look at him now you can see he has already gotten rid of a lot of it. This kid will be something special once he gets integrated into a proper training regime.
  2. i really like olivers attitude and approach to the game, I think a good preseason and fitness coaches could do wonders to take him up to an even higher level. I would take him at 3 and then a tall at 7/10.
  3. oliver won the morish medal is just over half a season of football so he has to have a fair bit of skill. he is certain in the mix in my mind.
  4. oliver does look pretty good in the clips shown, I loved the fact that no matter what happened to him he disposed of the ball pretty well to a team mate. would not be disappointed if we took him.
  5. the problem we faced with Howe was that he was uncontracted that left us no leverage over him at all. If he had been under contract we could have told him he was staying, that may have pushed up his price. the only threat we had was to send him to the psd which would have been cutting off our nose to spite our face. we got what we got, lets start to look forward to the inclusion of some harder and faster players.
  6. Article on the MFC website said he played as a junior and did very well, but moved to basketball. Now wants back into football. Sounds like a great prospect as he obviously has played competitive sport. Has played football so knows the basic and is coming off an excellent base and has a great pedigree. I look forward to hearing more about his progress.
  7. fantastic story, hopefully he will have a long and fruitful career with the Dees.
  8. there is no certainty with the draft, we have certainly taken a lot of garbage players with early picks and a lot of team have had great success with late picks, it comes down to spotting possible talent then developing it. we hopefully have the recruiters to spot it and the coaches to now develop them.
  9. I have no doubt our recruiting squad is out there doing their thing. Given where we are I suspect they have been working on their list for sometime knowing they would have a number of open spots. We have a limited number of draft picks so no point trying to do a Collingwood or Richmond that are into everyman and his dog. Target who or what we want and deal with them quietly.
  10. interesting reading bigfooty thread on Melksham and seeing the change in attitude from a day or so ago when they wanted to trade him for anything they could get even a 4th round pick. Then once the Melbourne interest story broke he is suddenly worth a whole lot more, maybe 2nd round or better. you have to laugh at the stupidity of it all.
  11. I think we have enough duds to offload before we get rid of Jimmy, well unless we get a good trade for him.
  12. The saints know they need to pay $1m or so a year to get a power forward to their club. The cheap option is obviously go for Paddy and hope that he develops into one of those million dollar forwards, preferably one that they wants to stay with the Saints. Problem is that if he does develop then other teams will be throwing $1m offers at him at the end of his first contract.
  13. yes he's IQ is too high for him to WANT to play for the saints
  14. if we get McCartin and play him he will be at last our 3 tall forward, Dawes will probably still take most of the attention from the opposition because he is older and a seasoned campaigner, hogan we will the 2nd best defender as he is again older and has at least one years VFL experience. So McCartin would take the 3rd best defender, i think that would be a great duel one that i think he could do well in. I dont see why he cannot get experience at AFL level as long as he is competitive and giving us something. VFL is for those who need the practice to get to a level where they can give us something when they play AFL football.
  15. regardless of who the saints pick they will regret not taking the other player. How many no 1 picks have actually proved to be the best of their draft.
  16. In our case its probably better, the quality of the player is as good without the noise that would surround another melbourne 1st draft pick.

  18. question is whether st kilda is going to take the type of player they believe they need, or just take the best player and hope that compensates for taking a lesser player later in the draft to cover that need.
  19. The saints will be looking to see if they can trade the first draft pick for some good young talent, which is probably to the GWS. I suspect the GWS will probably still be interested in off loading some other players for 2nd or 3rd pick to keep topping up their talent pool with the very best in each year that they can.
  20. Re the 2 for 1 deal i was referring to the hogan deal, which i thought was a 2 for 1
  21. Roos has a lot of holes to fill especially if we turn over a fair number of our list, so he is likely to be looking for 2 for 1 type deals, which may not deliver us the best but it will hopefully delivery us very good players.
  22. Just wondering how the father son rule works for instance, say we trade our 3rd and possibly 4th pick for proven players with other clubs. The another club after our first 2 picks bids on stretch can we then use of 5th or what ever next pick to get him? If so we could perhaps do a package deal with GWS or some other club to swap 2rd, 3rd and and possibly 4th pick for three or more good players

Anyone know if Tom and possibly a couple of the other shankers in the team are getting any specific coaching at training to address their obvious deficiencies.

Jack certainly has ability, but lacks the 2nd and 3rd efforts that make a champion, this does make him look lazy at times.
