  1. If we lose Sylvia which to be honest i think we probably will unfortunately, we should get around pick 25 as compo, i'd use that on Jones, yes it's possibly pulling the trigger early but if you had to personify what our side needs, this guy does.
  2. I didn't say he was suddenly running well, just that he looked to have a spring in his step, confidence can make slow players look quicker than they are, i think a big issue we have had in recent years is indecision, this can be fixed with confidence and understanding, Roos will bring both of those things to our list.
  3. While the last few years have been horrible for everyone associated with our club, confidence has been destroyed on every level of the club, coaches have come and gone like a revolving door, i can't help but feel like we are turning a corner now, Paul Roos seems to have given the whole place a huge lift, just hearing about the reactions of office staff is amazing, the players already seem to love him and want to stay under him, a huge sign of this i noticed was during our final game against the bulldogs when Jack Trengove for the first time in two years ran as though he wasn't in concrete boots, just days after learning the players had met with Roos. I'm not saying for a second it's going to be an instant turnaround, but 2014 may well be a year when alot of opinions of players change, this is a group we have never seen well coached for any length of time, and a group we have never seen with sustained confidence. players people have put question marks over, Jack Trengove, Jack Watts, Jimmy Toumpas all undeniable talents that have not yet come on the way we would have liked, ( probably being abit rough having toumpas in there ) all may well improve very quickly finally not playing out of position, finally knowing their role and finally having confidence would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on how big an impact this new found confidence might have on our club?
  4. Trying to build a culture of playing for the jumper, playing for your teammates, self sacrifice to be successful and we're talking about recruiting a bloke who is looking at leaving a strong successful team who has invested alot of money on and off field as well as time into giving him the opportunity to be an elite player, just to chase dollars. Good player, maybe Roos could sort him out but i think we have other options open to us that would be more constructive from a cultural sense, David Swallow, Luke Shuey, Rory Sloane, Taylor Adams
  5. I like it, only one thing i would change Martin to GWS Adams and pick 10 to MFC Pick 2 to Richmond GWS will have activated that pick 10 as trade bait, they will be resigned to losing Adams by now, so they will feel they're effectively losing two things they would lose anyway, and gaining a quality player RIchmond would be thrilled to get anything for Martin imo, given the two front runners for him are 1 and 2 in the draft and MFC get the player they're after and a very good pick to pass on to the crows maybe with a player and try and prize sloane out of them
  6. i'd slot Jesse Hogan into Center half forward because he is a running machine, i feel he would add quite alot up the ground with the pace and big body he has Mitch Clark at Full forward because simply he is the best player we have for that position fitz and dawes sorta battle it out for the third tall position, dawes leadership probably gets him over the line howe and blease as half forwards, such different players, and both extremely dangerous when they're on, capable of taking a game away from the opposition Byrnes in the other pocket as he is a legitimate small forward, has the pace and smarts to sit at clark and dawes feet very well Dawes Clark Byrnes Blease Hogan Howe Toumpas Trengove Watts
  7. after having a good think about it i think we'd be better off looking past Martin. He has undeniable on field ability and that's great but we are in the process of trying to effect a cultural change, he is very capable of hindering that, 600 k that he wants is alot of money, would much rather throw that at a taylor adams and or David Swallow, maybe abit less for them but you get my drift.
  8. if we offer him 700 k a year for 3 years i reckon we'd be a good chance, seems he is clearly chasing dollars. Martin, Cross and Adams makes a serious improvement to our midfield.
  9. Yeah, i think if i was coach, and looking at our list i am pretty happy that's not the case, i'd probably play him as a high half forward/ wingman, Clark Dawes and Hogan would be having wet dreams over Toumpas and Watts having the ball in their hands and passing it into them, both amazing users of the ball.
  10. Don't think any of those trades are realistic, sorry buddy.
  11. He will need to run much harder than he currently does to play that role well, but i agree, if Roos gets him able to run hard enough and he likes the role he would be extremely damaging on a win Richo style
  12. Really interested to see where Roos plays Watts, has the assets to play many roles.
  13. Thomas is a free agent Martin chooses us and walks to the pre season draft pick 2 to GWS for Adams and pick 10 the lure of coming home convinces Sloane to declare an interest in being traded for us, we have Pick 10 and they need top 10 picks it's a big ask but the thread title said best possible.
  14. He is very talented and i'd back Roos to sort out the off field stuff, so i wouldn't be against a big dollars offer, just short term rather than long term ideally, i'd go with pick 2 to GWS for Adams and pick 10 and pick 10 for Martin, if our offer is the best then they can either talk that or he walks to the PSD with a huge price tag on his head.
  15. I'd be pretty happy with Garland Frawley Clisby Grimes Mcdonald toumpas thomas Martin Sloane Sylvia Dawes Watts howe Hogan clark jolly viney cross adams trengove blease kent
  16. I really like your Point about the PP not being a gift mate on another comment mate, this is the point in think the other AFL clubs and alot of the public are missing is that it's not a gift, it's a tool of equalization, is the comp even at the moment? no, the club named after the capitol city of Victoria ( the home of AFL football )is not AFL standard, that's a disaster for everyone involved, every team we play loses money, every game we play loses interest from supporters, members, the general public, we have become a joke. It was only earlier this year we were being seriously compared to Fitzroy, to me the obvious solution would be to install a stronger government for the club to get things on track ( check ) sign a premiership coach to give the supporters and members some hope/ show the football world we are serious about improving ( check ) in the event we are granted a priority pick we have declared we will trade it, giving all 17 clubs an equal opportunity to get their hands on a gun key forward they otherwise may not have had the opportunity to even consider, i think this is the sticking point that might well get us over the line, Boyd is going straight back into the mix. The other clubs could say but they were investigated for tanking for 7 months in the last year or so, i'd hope the AFL hold firm and say they were found not guilty, that's not a factor in this decision, the best interests of the competition are however.
  17. I understand the point you're making mate and i agree but the coach, the bail out package ( reportedly ) only allows us to use 400k on the head coach if we choose, so best case scenario we are paying him 1 mil a year out of our own pockets anyway, he said no to brisbane and he wanted to coach us for reasons other than the money, pats on the back to MFC for landing their man, i don't think the other clubs should be too upset with that. the bail out package, i can more understand this frustration, North nearly left for the Gold coast because of debt yet we get a bail out package, however, if we become a powerful club again sooner rather than later, a home game of Melbourne vs North Melbourne could draw a crowd of 60k rather than 20k and make them alot more money anyway. i also think alot of it is the other clubs know we were guilty, and know because we were publicly named not guilty they can't use that arguement which is why they just come across as sooking a little bit in my opinion. but as you said if we get offered a priority pick that would be great for us, i don't think the other clubs should factor into this decision at all, as long as they sit down consider our record, consider our position, consider the benifits of a strong MFC and consider the only real opposition to this is the other clubs not being happy about us getting handouts, i think the right decision will be made.
  18. Anyone know if Taylor Adams has hinted where he'd like to go publicly? or if he is open to coming to Melbourne? all i have seen is that we have had one chat to him and made a substancial offer, but that was a while ago and not heard alot since.
  19. I don't see us playing Jolly and Jamar together unless Clarks foot is no good, Clark is a high quality ruckman as well as forward so the only way the Jolly thing could work is if he comes on board as a playing coach to help the culture shift, again he'll cost nothing, provide some on and off field experience and all of that, i would have been looking to trade Jamar anyway personally.
  20. we have alot of unfulfilled talent, who knows what we could do next year under Roos, we might fly up the ladder much quicker than people expect I'd be surprised if we aren't a much improved team next year, but i can't see where the improvement is going to come from for the saints, Jack Steven is the only genuine A grade player coming through.
  21. I still don't understand the basis of the argument against us getting a Priority pick, 1. the other clubs are losing money every time they play us, a PP will get us back up asap 2. we were found not guilty of tanking officially, that can't be used against us in any way. 3. 34 wins in 7 years, 1 against a top 8 team, the numbers back up our case. 4. if Roos gets some good form out of Trengove, Blease, Watts and Tapscott we haven't wasted all of these picks, we moved Gysberts on, and Scully left because of the AFL monster in western Sydney and it's huge pay rise. 5. we have stated we would trade pick 1 if we get it, it would be going straight back into the mix, if GWS get it it's not certain that it would. i don't understand why North Melbourne people in particular are sooking so much about this, us being a better side sooner rather than later is ultimately in the best interests of the entire comp. this media circus they are causing to try and cloud the fact that on the points above we should absolutely get one with enough negativity towards the idea is absolutely bringing the game into disrepute imo.
  22. Kid needs to settle down with this good form or he won't be there at our 3rd round pick.
  23. I wouldn't be upset if we offered him a two year deal, these blokes know exactly what a good culture looks like.
  24. 4 year deal is just crazy, 2 year deal, one as a player one as a coach and see how he goes, can always re-sign, can't be breaking contracts if he turns out to be a dud.
  25. Haha yeah that was really just a random guess of someone who might be on the move, would much rather Zak jones, even a mature age player from the VFL or something might be the go at that pick.
