  1. I don't completely disagree with you, however, I think the argument about players not being good because of the personnel around them is just a petty excuse you could make for any of our players who should be stepping up and taking the game by their hold.

I completely agree with you mate, but only to a point.

Players on the outside need personnel around them. So someone like Nathan Jones or Jack Viney (in a few years), there would be no excuse to not get enough of the ball, becasue they are contested ball winners, Trengove isnt soo much.

  2. I understand how a player could get better with support around them but I don't understand how Trengove gets to elite and damaging due to other players.

I also don't understand how getting his disposal count to 25 per game makes him a freak.

Here's what we know about Trengove:

    Strengths

    - Hard at the ball

    - Strong tackler

    - Good endurance that is likely to pick up with a good preseason

    - Good mark for his size

    Weaknesses

    - Speed

    - Disposal has been only average

I think with a good preseason he'll accumulate more footy and also find a quicker initial step to win more ball at the contests. Right now he seems so plain and to lack a weapon in any form of the game. Hopefully that changes in the next couple of years. If he does improve a little everyone will appreciate him because besides his speed he won't have a lot of weaknesses.

Well because Trengove is an outside player and he has good workrate he will be passed the ball on the outside and his possession count will go right up.

The speed will improve as he gets his full fitness back

What's your basis for any of that? How will the 3 other midfielders transform his game so dramatically? You've provided nothing to really comment upon.

Also, aren't you the guy who described Grimes as "a beautiful kick"?

It's great that you have faith in our captains, but they have alot of self improvement to go before they are even good players, let alone amongst the "most elite".

Trengove would get enough support from other players in our midfield, players who play on the inside and give it to Trengove. Steele Sidebottom is an outside player and i believe that Trengove can hit that level pretty quickly.

Grimes really does have a nice kick mate

  3. If Pick 2 is on the table and Watts wants out, I would gladly trade those two (+ exchange later picks etc.) for any two of these players: Rory Sloane, David Swallow, and/or Tom Rockliff.

Then fingers crossed we obtain a priority pick to select Boyd, and have he Hogan tearing up the forward line for the next decade.

David Swallow would not go as GC would never let him go, unless you traded pick 2

  4. I'm not saying this is definite but i reckon if this were to happen we'd almost have what we need.

    Pick 2 for Rockliff?

    also

Sylvia and second round pick for Taylor Adams?

Still target Daisy Thomas for Shts and giggles

  5. Its been reported today that Jesse wont agree to a contract extension.

He says he just wants to concentrate on getting a senior game next year.

Gold Coast has managed to get an extension out of Jack Martin, butvwe cant do the same with Hogan.

If he doesnt sign by the end of next year, he will be out of contract and everyone will be after him, no doubt throwing obsene amounts of money at him.

Im worried we might lose him.

    we cant be so paranoid.

So much can happen in two years, there is NO WAY HE WILL LEAVE if Melbourne gets a gun coach, shows great improvement and signs some high profile players.

We will be fine, just because Jack Martin signed does not mean there is an issue that Jessie hasnt signed

  6. cant believe you havent said "get Dale Thomas"

    get Taylor Adams

mate, we've got to get our priority right.

These 2 players are already young and more mature star.

I am not interested in getting half players such as Greenwood

  7. In: Garland, Magner, Taggert, Jetta, Terlich

Out: Blease, Davey, Kent, Pederson, Brynes

all of the outs i believe will not be in Melbourne's future best 22 so i'd be pretty happy to get them out

  8. do whatever you can to get Dale Thomas

    Taylor adams

i dont care if we lose pick 2 and our second round pick

    get these boys!

    id be willing to do

pick 2- Dale Thomas (he gets 700k a year)

T Adams- Second Round pick, Mark Jamar

    or

Free Agency- Thomas (700k a year)

T adams and second round pick- pick 2, Jamar

  9. i thought he was pretty good yesterday?

if so his 4 out of the last 5 have been pretty solid

i like the look of thiskid.

he doesnt lack composure, he's got great skills and he takes the game on.

i have no doubt Melbourne will recruit or buy a good midfield and hell than have some support and some targets to kick to

  10. Can any of those you mentioned play ruck bearing in mind Clark (if fit at all) won't want to be risk and if the answer is no would that mean you'd have to include a dodgy second ruck like Pedersen?

I just think 12 months time we'll know so much more about Hogan, Clark and Watts. Dawes as a decent hard working without being a star at CHF is the certainty the rest are puzzle pieces.

Well the thing is Gawn=number 1 ruckman (i think we all agree on that)

Mitch Clark could rotate through i reckon.

But the fact of the matter is it is going to be incredibly rare to get Watts, Hogan, Clark and Dawes all on the park at once.

so therefore Fitzy is likely to be playing also.

Im not sure if that makes sense

  11. You only need to look at the GWS and GC. Gary Ablett has done wonders for O Meara and co. Fitzgerald won't get us an Ablett, but he will give us bargaining power for a very good midfielder who is an AFL standard player. Add in a fee agent and the possibility of getting a Cross for free too, The midfield is way better. This takes the pressure off Viney, Kent, Toumpas, Jones Grimes Trengove etc etc.

    note the bolded word

please do not comment on the post if you cannot get the players name even remotely correct

    FITZPATRICK

  12. he has been really fantastic and i like the durability that we have with him as he is a glorified Ruck/Forward

But i rate Watts, Hogan and Clark higher

Chris Dawes actually adds some well needed grunt.

He may be a decent trade option, lets see how it pans out.

He has been amazing of late though

  13. I heard this from DB for 4 years and while the principle may be true if you pick players who are not good enough it never happens.

How many of his picks that were going to be very good around 2014 are still at the club?

I used to say in 2010 and I am still saying it, we need good experienced players to bring these kids along.

It was the missing element in 2010 and is even worse now.

We should use every draft pick this year on good 25 year olds.

Yes I know easier said then done.

    i dont like that theory.

still need an aggressive young midfielder as there arent many in the free agency or willing to be traded to Melbourne.

Find an agressive inside midfielder in draft.

than we should do our best to get another young star, hard midfielder

  14. this current best 22 is very good and inexperienced. i anticipate a large chunk of these 22 getting lots of games under their belts and becoming good experienced players.

Theres only a few players i can think of i'd put back in:

    Michael Evans

    Mitch Clark

    Jesse Hogan (next year)

very encouraging and stoked to see Viney back

  15. Trade him too soft

it is supporters like you that make me want to rip out my hair and never let you into another Melbourne game again.

This kid is the future of the MFC and one of the greatest and natural kicks i've ever seen in my life. Better than Davey's.

He can be slow at times, but after only just a few games i can already see a star in the making, and no, he is not soft

  16. Let's not get too carried away yet, remember once upon a time it was 'Morton, Scully and Trengove who were going to be stars'. Let's not burden them with that tag yet.

two of them are still going to be stars.
