  1. Billy's 2017 was enigmatic to say the least. Let's hope 2018 is his breakout year .. he needs it.
  2. too many funeral company ads on 3AW ... we are obviously not their target audience OD .... stick to JJJ Actually I have gravitated to Smooth FM... not too many ads
  3. watch out for those venison steaks.... I am sure that sacrificing Bambi on the barbie cannot be good for us .. Then again I do like a good piece of 'Roo meat.
  4. I'm told that was an aberration after a long and difficult season......how did we lose ???
  5. the point is perhaps far from moot Saty. Training is a required activity and we accept injury risks. This is an activity of zero benefit to the MFC, so for a player to get injured while participating would be extremely upsetting.
  6. Apparently there is no prize money on offer for this season. Given that there is zero prestige in winning, my tendency would be to give the fringe players a crack. Whether it will work... who knows. What are successful sports these days are a long way from the traditionally viewed sports. Just for the record when Ballroom dancing makes the Olympics that's when I stop watching that event.
  7. Thanks ... when I am back on a safe network (India at present) I will send a donation. Good to see we are continuing our sponsorship and hopefully we can continue to leverage this site so it's not just the corporates and the usual identities who are heard by the MFC.
  8. Hi Just wondering whether Demonland is intending to sponsor a player or players this year. If so I would be interested in making a "small" contribution. Would very much support sponsoring an AFLW player in addition to an AFL player. Wonderful work by Andrew and others in keeping this site going. Looking forward to it occasionally crashing this year after all our wins !!
  9. Leigh Matthews has been mentioning this for years. He was particularly scathing of it in the context of Brisbane. The origin of the rule dates back if I recall to the old Fitzroy days where the club was constantly paying unders in its effort to stay afloat. Cannot really see a way of fixing it and perhaps it is just the price of equalisation.
  10. Correct Uncle Think we need to define "bottoming out" ... I think it means going to the bottom quartile (say the last five of an eighteen club comp.) Two years in the bottom quartile hurts a club... three to five.. that can mean damage.. five to ten as we have done is almost a club killer
  11. Looking at that list other than Petracca and Tom Mc Donald (UFA) you would think that most would sign on as the year progresses. Good players among the rest but no real stars. 2019 has Hogan and Oliver amongst others. Would like to see them both signed this year but who knows.
  12. Yes... but isn't that the issue. Saints along with us, North and Dogs are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to sponsor attraction.
  13. Another thing is that drafting usually takes around three years before you get results. We may think we have drafted well over the last 4 years but save for Oliver the bulk of those draftees are still in the "potential basket".
  14. Agree whole heartedly . The strong sides have longed realised that "rebuilds" are a myth. Perhaps dropping to mid table (tenth) every now and then is acceptable but prolonged finishes in the bottom quartile are club killers. Pretty obvious that the AFL is desperate to lift Carlton out of that brigade before the club suffers long term damage. As to MFC we're on our own destined to wallow in mediocrity which will only be remedied by 10 plus years of solid performances... we can but hope it eventuates. The relative success of North has papered over some cracks but if they were to become easy beats they could easily once again feel some outside pressure to relocate etc.
  15. mmmmmmmmm..... what can I say save that "I think therefore I am."
  16. Don't blink... you may miss it https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/jan/10/slow-train-coming-sbs-to-air-17-hour-ghan-train-on-sunday Following the success/controversy of airing a three-hour extract of a train trip through the Australian outback, SBS has decided to air a 17-hour version of the journey on Sunday. Could be interesting... trying to remember but didn't SBS have a test pattern or similar years ago that rated quite well?
  17. But how can we be sure that it is really him... They can do wonders in this digital age. It could all be a CGI.... (I sometimes wonder if I am the only real person in a CGI World)
  18. Stop being "petty"... this is serious !!
  19. Hi Deeko How are the Redcliff Tigers going these days? Remember going to some games in the early '80's. Very good and passionate crowds. I wish someone would stump up the money so MFC could play its NT games in Mildura. The local district population exceeds that of Alice Springs so it's not as silly as it sounds from a club development viewpoint. Cheers
  20. Can someone explain why we did not/could not rookie AVB and then see how he went at Casey. Early days but not looking like a smart move. Hope I am wrong.
  21. you're probably right but if we could improve the accuracy he would make a useful addition. Definitely on trial for 2018 but I suspect the modern unstructured game might suit him in the sense that at least he can find the ball unlike JKH and others
  22. let go of the past... the latest stuff up was three weeks ago......still rather current I would have thought. The MFC needs to be held to a standard and 2017 was not a good example in so many ways.
  23. No it's a small taste of what will come their way this season. I don't care about whether they did the camp or not but it showed abysmal connection between the coach and the playing group. This was another stuff up by a club that seems to move from one mini stuff up to another (need we mention the finals tickets email !!)
  24. Relied in the main on the full back playing on IIRC. Love 'em or hate them the Shaws were excellent in those running back roles
  25. Starting to get a little concerned about how long it is taking Timmy Cahill to find a new club. At his time of leaving Melbourne City, Muscat opined that Timmy had already lined somewhere up but it is now one month later and nothing. Hard to think of a club that will give him good service and also be prepared to take on a stop gap striker that wants guaranteed game time. A genuine conundrum which I hope is quickly settled. Of course he may take the view that as the A league is ending in around a month he really has little to lose by not playing in that league. Perhaps a third level European club might be an answer (assuming he can't get a second level club)
