  1. Is this guy worth a season or two http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-09-20/why-isnt-vfl-ruck-star-nick-meese-playing-afl THE RAW numbers will blow you away. This Northern Knights product is a five-time VFL Team of the Year ruckman, including in each of the past four seasons. His 1088 hit-outs and 273 to advantage in the 2017 home and away season dwarfed the next-best in each category, Box Hill's Hawthorn-listed Marc Pittonet (554) and Werribee's Kangaroo Braydon Preuss (119). No rival VFL big man averaged more than his 5.1 clearances or 6.8 tackles per game, either. He is fifth in contested possessions (9.3) among that group, too. What might surprise you more is that Williamstown strongman Nick Meese, the man in question, has no AFL suitors. Again. And probably never will, given he turns 29 on Saturday.
  2. trading for a reserve ruck is a tough one ... ideally you want a KPP who can ruck. If not you are after a back up that sits at Casey... who would want that job and would we be prepared to give up anything (pick or player wise) for such a player
  3. people used to that in the old days with fitzroy memberships... admittedly it was full membership but it worked because the clubs got equal access IIRC Fascinating that it might still work 50 years on cheers
  4. Generally in agreement with you OD.. their fence sitting on the Goodes booing was deplorable but on this issue because many organisations are stating their views I think it's to be applauded
  5. Strangely enough although I think the AFL is often too quick to adopt a cause (it's like cause of the week sometimes) I am in complete agreement with their public stance on this occasion. All types of organisations have weighed in on this issue and I would be disappointed if the AFL "sat on the fence." As a young boy I can vaguely recall walking home with my mother after she had voted in the 1967 referendum. She was/is a conservative voter but she had no problem explaining to me that she was happy to vote yes on that occasion. I would like to think that this issue is carried by a similar proportion of the vote.
  6. thanks ... was he injured in round 3? It was such a long painful season that those early rounds are now a blur And that is a question on which our potential flag hopes rest. If we have a post injury Max in 2018 we lose a fair percentage of our contested making ability not to mention our clearance dominance (if we ever really had it).
  7. Could we have the demonland votes for Max prior to his injury. It is all too easy to concentrate on his second half of the season which was sub par to say the least. This time last year we were all salivating over 2017 with Max at full tilt. He along with Hogan are the players that win you premierships.
  8. Agree..unless a player does very well he tends to go down in the draft pecking order (no longer an unknown) third round does it for me if we are interested. Perhaps swap our second for their third if that is allowed but he would have to be "issue free" whatever his problems were, Agree.... Kent played 20 games in 2016.... if we are to trade him it needs to be a little better than this
  9. I'm driving down to Malacca (or Melaka as it is called here) to watch the game on 5 October. Not sure how to buy a ticket but it should not be too much of a problem ... the Syria v Uzbekistan game had 350 people. The stadium holds 40,000. Weather will be hot (around 29) and high humidity. It is the inter monsoon phase at present so a decent thunderstorm is quite on the cards. If you guys are interested I can give you a match report concentrating mainly on the colour and the food. Doubt that there will be a beer at the stadium.
  10. this is getting really silly......... On a more realistic note it is a great way of shifting the norm ... keep saying you want the moon and the stars and you will at least end up with the moon
  11. Surprised that it is so high... One could be cynical and suggest that a few of those tickets are being bought for the resale market.
  12. http://www.smh.com.au/afl/greater-western-sydney-giants/once-nervous-about-greater-western-sydney-the-nrl-now-sees-them-as-an-asset-20170918-gyjpw4.html a muddled article but a thought piece https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/sep/18/never-surrender-gws-ready-to-enter-mcg-bear-pit-for-afl-preliminary-final more interesting perhaps
  13. Very much agree that he should be played in the mid field. I remember when Neeld played him in the ruck and people were amazed. Anything that gets him into the thick of the game.
  14. Interesting .... his 2017 form was not that great and one has to wonder if 2016 is his norm or an aberration. If we had a reasonable replacement I could be persuaded but as we haven't it is but a thought point.
  15. Trying to recall the last "big fish" we traded for. I suppose it was Mitch Clark. Dees don't have a good record when it comes to ending up on top in the big trades. Starting with my name sake and moving on... Peter Moore, Kelvin Templeton and the list goes on and on. Hope this deal proves me wrong ... different times... different players. Overall I prefer the slightly lower profile trades like Hibberd for a second rounder or whatever it was.
  16. Not sure if this made the Australian media but it certainly makes one stop and think ... what the hell was he doing: http://www.thestar.com.my/news/world/2017/09/17/german-man-penis-gets-stuck-in-gym-weight-plate-rescue-effort-takes-3-hours/ "A man in the German city of Worms had his penis stuck in the hole of a 2.5kg gym weight plate on Friday, forcing fire-fighters to use power tools to free it."
  17. Everyone was hoping that this would have a fairy tale ending but alas it was not to be. Good luck Jack whatever you decide to do next.
  18. It also means that they will not survive without investment from the AFL. Would like to see the TV ratings for Sydney for GWS games and how the product is being received pre and post the introduction of GWS. It can only be television that justifies GWS and probably also GCS as it looks like it will never be attendance at games.
  19. ah,,, a mere detail but the point remains the same
  20. Understand but the only diff between the two is that Port can say no and insist the player honour his contract . What club would do that after the Gary Ablett fiasco
  21. While we talk Lever it is interesting to recall what Dangerfield was traded for. Considering he is the best player in recent times to be traded he is a good benchmark. "GEELONG has sealed the Patrick Dangerfield trade with Adelaide. The Cats have given up young midfielder Dean Gore as well as picks No.9 and No.28 to snare the superstar midfielder. The Cats gain Dangerfield and Adelaide's third-round draft pick, currently No.50. Gore was pick No.55 at the NAB AFL Draft but was on the verge of senior selection early in 2015 before he suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to miss seven weeks. He then returned strongly to be part of the selection mix late in the season averaging more than 20 touches a game at VFL level on at least three occasions. " http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-12/young-cat-set-to-move-home-as-part-of-dangerfield-deal So for one of the best players in the league Geelong gave up pick 9 and 28 plus a VFL player. It seems to me that offering our first and second round for Lever is by comparison way overs.
  22. Hogan on song is a premiership winning player. Lever is a nice to have ... no thanks PS ask again at the end of next season if Hogan does not have a top 3 (club wise) year
  23. Sydney and Adelaide clubs could do a lot more to market their games to away fans. A few overnight special trains could be a start. Could you imagine a train load of Collingwood or Richmond supporters. Of course for Melbourne trips we could have special cheese platters in the buffet car. For those who can remember it could be like the Old Rutherglen Red !! "Slightly less seasoned wine drinkers but experienced revelers might recall weekends in which they were transported from Melbourne to Rutherglen and back aboard an ageing red rattler of the same name. While it never quite achieved the international renown of Africa’s Blue Train or The Orient Express, it was still a train journey that served as a rite of passage for what then became some of our more hardened palates. " https://www.winegenius.com/rediscovering-the-rutherglen-red/
  24. Wow.... sounds like a real Titanic struggle C'mon Demons
