  1. Importantly, Gaff's dad is rehab and recovering. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-09-14/stuff-to-think-about-gaff-confirms-roos-interest Gaff has been back in Perth for the last few weeks and it looks like he is planning to stay at the Eagles. The 26-year-old has had plenty to consider since his season-ending suspension and father Paul's recent heart scare, but hoped to remain an Eagle beyond 2018. "Yeah, I hope so. It's still something we're working through with my management and the club," Gaff told radio station Mix 94.5. If he does, good on him for spurning the North $.
  2. May will get to his club of choice this year even if traded while in contract. He doesn't need to be declared an FA. That deal is dressed up to help GCS but is really being brokered to help the receiving club (Collingwood in the box seat with Hawthorn next in line) as they get May free. The AFL should just give GCS a priority pick and make Collingwood/Hawthorn trade for May. This benefits GCS a lot more (with picks 2, 3, 4 and the May 1st round pick) and maintains some semblance of integrity (yes, an oxymoron word in the AFL) around the FA rules. If the AFL agree to that suggestion, the slippery slope just got slipperier! What do they do the next time a player wants to break a contract to become an FA so he can go to his preferred club which he can do via a trade anyway. This is really not the time for AFL expediency. The sooner they make receiving FA clubs 'pay' in draft picks or draft points the better. Edit: Posted below by Redleg that AFL have rejected the scheme. A relief!
  3. Saints are also puzzling. They have picks 3, 57, 61, 63 and somehow they are planning to trade in Hannebery! Their list is going to be a mess next year. While Freo have a few stars and a few in the making both will be on the bottom rungs of the ladder for quite a while. Both Freo and Saints traded are very good examples of future pick trading gone badly wrong.
  4. With an ageing midfield North would be crazy not to take that deal, not that I want to lose Tyson. If the fb post is true, maybe our offer was Tyson plus a draft pick and North baulked at that? Just realised Preuss is in contract till end of 2020. So we must really want him to effectively trade him out of his contract, so maybe it is a simple player swap... ...North will want overs...
  5. Didn't a poster with generally good info say Sam W would be asking for a trade to Geelong as he couldn't get senior games? The next week Jesse was injured. After Sam was selected the poster reported it was up to Sam to decide if he still wanted to go. Let's hope not. Garry may be barking up the wrong tree (nothing knew for him) for Geelong. As an aside, with Sam's recent performances Geelong don't have enough picks/players to trade for him or Hogan!
  6. I wonder if North have told him there is no room on their list or their are other players ahead of him for senior selection. Then his reason of 'wanting senior games' is fair, especially if he will be their 3rd in line. Why choose us? He will be 2nd fiddle to Max, the best ruckman in the league and the player voted Best Player in the league by coaches. And play for a team that is going places. For us, we need a back up ruckman. Win/Win.
  7. Thanks for all the videos! Fleeting moments telling an awesome story of Bruising, unrelenting football. All fair bumps. We clearly targeted Selwood. Both teams came to play we were simply better.
  8. I would rather the camera roaming the rooms without Brian!
  9. Funny you say that. I nearly wrote 3 down, 3 to go! But a lingering tinge of MFCSS stopped me - you know the counting chickens thing... ...but I'm with you all the way FF!
  10. My favourite anti Geelong moments was all the booing directed at Ablett in the second half. Doubt he has heard that before! #Timetohanguptheboots
  11. I know that is rhetorical but just for the record: 3 in the last 3 weeks! If we add a small loss to Syd that would be 4 from 4! Can't beat a top 8 side they say! Well that and all the other negative narratives from the empty brained media commentators will no longer see the light of day. A new day has dawned!
  12. That was a huge moment. That little gem happened on the Member's side in front of the i/change bench. Hawkins was lining up for goal in front of the Southern stand from a spot where he had kicked one earlier. Umpire took the ball off Hawkins and paid a free against Selwood. They had the momentum by keeping us goalless in the second quarter and if Hawkins kicked that goal the lead would have been just 15 points with nearly a half of footy still to play. Selwood cost them the momentum and thereafter they lost structure and composure. They looked like the Finals Rookies!! Yep, a real Captain's game from Selwood! In the past he got away with that stuff but not last night! A very late edit: Apparently, the free kick against Selwood was paid by the Emergency Umpire. Didn't know that was allowed. The guy deserves a medal. Hope he umpires our games in future!
  13. Just popped over to read the Geelong bigfooty page. I expected a lot of animosity. Not a bit of it, In fact, here is a selection from the first few pages: -good luck to the dees, their supporters deserve it. -But both teams played rubbish and we were flogged. I hope the demons can now get momentum. -Melbourne should go deep, I'm actually going for them now in this Finals series, they play a good style of footy. Plenty of talent, their list was bound to explode. -Congratulations to Melbourne! The best performing team won. Now, I'm on the Melbourne bandwagon! I think I mentioned my darling Dad was a Melbourne supporter! While I'm devo for my Geelong Cats, I'm delighted for Melbourne! Go Dees! Very gacious of them. They saved their angst for their players and their coach. My favourite comment from them is: Oh well. Hope the Dees belt the p.ss and sh.t next week.
  14. The AFLPA tried for 6 years instead of 8 as part of last years CBA. They failed. Case was closed. It is still 8 years. Jesse will be an UFA in 2021
  15. Not sure where that idea comes from. Jesse won't be a free agent until the END of 2021!!!! He was pre-listed for 2013. Joined the AFL list for 2014. After 8 years on AFL list, player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. Other than media musings there is no indication at all that he wants to leave the Dees. Only if he wants to go will he get traded. There is no reason for the club to push him into a trade.
  16. Kudos @Dr.Dfor being a good sport and accepting that avatar. Unlike another poster who reneged on a similar deal to accept an Oscar Mc avatar when Oscar came good and said poster praised Oscar last year. I won't out said poster (others might) but he knows who he is...
  17. His dad's health issues may have been know and stressing Gaff when he had the rare brain snap. So his dad and family may be the clincher to bring him back. Then Dees vs North? Surely, its a no-brainer: play for Goodwin or Mr Sourpuss Scott!!
  18. Played 15 games. Shame he didn't get a Rising Star nomination.
  19. The club would have been looking/talking to Gaff for the past year. But now, I would say the development of Harmes and Brayshaw thave reduced our need for Gaff, especially if we had to break the bank to get him. Use the money to keep the talent we have which still has so much upside.
  20. Goodwin just said on OTC that Jesse isn't going anywhere. 'He is Melbourne through and through.' There were no weasel words around it. He was very clear and definitive. Jesse stays!
  21. If we win one final I reckon 50,000 is a no brainer!
  22. That means we have sold 721 new memberships this month! Great response by supporters to the likelihood of making finals! Would imagine there will be a very good crowd on Sunday: good weather, winning form, big game!
  23. I assume the 'Minor Premiership' is ending the H&A season on top of the ladder? So, is it time to add 'Win a Premiership'?
  24. I'm worried about the report from a reputable poster that Sam may ask for a trade to Geelong because he can't get enough opportunities in the seniors. Can see his point with Hogan and Tommy in front of the sticks. But Crikey, I hope we find a regular spot for young Sam as would hate for him to go. A terrific fighting game from him today. And great back up for Max.
  25. Reports are WCE have offered $850k and North are offering $1.m+ Given club comments that we have the sal cap for 2 A graders we could offer somewhere in that range. An offer needs to be one that WCE won't be able to 'virtually' match (that would allow them to force a trade ala Dangerfield). The club narrative has been about a balance across player payments. So even tho we may have the sal cap we may not be prepared to upset that balance and risk existing players being offside or risk not being able to afford our players coming out of contract next year (s). Hopefully, we have someone else in the pipeline if we miss Gaff.
