  1. It’s so out of the blue that I gotta wonder if he jumped or was pushed? Something tells me there’s a fair bit more to this story than meets the eye.
  2. Really showed us up didn’t they. And to add to that in the first half of the last quarter they had 11 straight fwd 50 entries. 11 straight! So, there’s the game on the line and we’re fully slaughtered.
  3. yep. The game has changed re the type of midfielders that will win flags. Yes you’ve still got to be tough but speed and foot skills are bk in town and open the game to speed. Port have 3 of the new prototype in Butters , JHF and rozee. Pies have 2.5 in pendlebury and Daicos. Lions have 2 in Raynor and Ashcroft these are the new breed of elite. We just don’t have that type . I would have thougt in the wet our mix prob should have had an edge but clearly didn’t. Perhaps that includes strategy as well? seems we too easily get picked apart now out of stoppage . But in general we’re missing speed and elite footskills and there’s no one coming through with those attributes. JJ, Harmes and Dunstan are all v good players but they’re not gonna change our dynamic. Woewodin looks a bit similar. Howes? maybe worth a look. Hunter adds nothing , Brayshaw has gone backwards…sparrow is just another of OUR prototype. Seems we’re just wavy too full of good to v good plodders. Will consistently beat up on younger bodied teams and lose to the top 4-5 teams. We’ve slipped a long way. Yes Oliver and Trac and Max are elite and champions of the game but we won’t win a flag now without more and different in our arsenal. I’m seeing a 4-6 th finish. A PF is as high as I see us going. Hate to say it but we’re just not winning a flag in 23. The only upside is 2x good first round picks and more time into JVR.
  4. I think there’s actually 5 legitimate top four sides this year. As ridiculous as that sounds lol. lions, cats, pies, dees and power. So this is one of those 8 point games we def don’t want to drop. Big game!
  5. I’d love to see the KB game be a 1v2 encounter. Hopefully we keep winning up to the game. Might be the biggest attendance in a H&A game in my 50 plus years of following the Dees. Could be 95k which is virtually a GF crowd.
  6. I feel for the Roos. It’s the closest I’ve seen any club come to the dees level of despair. Perhaps they’ve passed it now…. And that, as we know, is a dark place as a passionate supporter. Do we, as a club, make a move on him or any others? Head says yes heart says no. But you can bet other clubs would be smelling blood in the water and moving in if we aren’t. Terrible for footy really.
  7. I like it. Theres just too much benefit for bottom teams to finish lower…. as we did for years. Wont happen til Tassie are in and set though.
  8. If this viewpoint is right we should clinically put away port on Friday eve....but Im not sure we're quite as good as he's saying . Hope Im wrong.
  9. He's turned into a very important player hasn't he. We're suddenly living in the time of not having TMac or BBB. Wasnt quite expecting that to come so fast. Hopefully one of them can get up. But if not, we give Schache a decent run and see what he's got. I just think JVR ( in his first season) and Schache is pretty lightweight...but Im struggling to see what else to do.
  10. A dubious statement I know, but I reckon I might get more satisfaction in getting JVR off than a 30- 40 point win v the hawks. Theres probably a tipping point where that changes, maybe a win over 60 points? I hope the players dont feel like I do though! How the worm has turned since 2017 when we beat the top of the table hawks and it was THE best dee feeling I'd had for years.
  11. Never forget that brilliant run down of one of the quickest players in the game, Petrocelli ( over west coast I think) . Ragdolled him. Got up, got the free then promptly kicked a 20 metre pass out on the full. That seems to sum him up somehow. Did things that were incredible and terrible...often back to back. Good luck to him though 150 AFL games is good career by any standards. Fond and scary memories of him lol
  12. The real question is what are the optics and can the AFL live with a "not guilty" whatever the actual facts are. Player A, runs into player B who goes off on a stretcher. Bad optics...AFL want to look good. Money, advertising etc.
  13. Also.. if you feel brave. He has super high standards of himself and others. It often looks on the screen, that he’s constantly getting ****ty with his other back men. what’s the balance he feels between encouragement and camraderie and getting [censored] off.
  14. GC 3 straight wins now. This isn’t the soft kill it looked like a few weeks ago… they’ll be primed to rest themselves against one of the best.
  15. And invite in the US betting mafia and all the layers of corruption that would no doubt come with it. No thanks.
  16. Cameron to Geelong looks pretty good now though doesn’t it.
  17. Phil Carmen probably deserves a mention too.
  18. Not today we didn’t. Lol. I’m not writing him off but didn’t he look off today… I didn’t know he could even play like that.
  19. How long has it been since we looked that bad? They lacked intensity and cohesion. Really a bad showing, Grundy and May were terrible. How long since May has looked like that? I can’t help wondering if they were all ill?
  20. yes… except in this case Im prepared to make an exception ;-)
  21. it’s a delicate situation isn’t it. I’m sure Paddy, his family and the swans are listening to his doctor(s) more than any other outside voices. At least I hope so. He’s become an important player for them so I hope any drive for club success or money isn’t made bigger than his health concerns. The swans seem pretty together as a club and I’d tend to trust them in this matter. On a club level Angus Brayshaw was v nearly in the same category as Paddy. I wonder how Angus, us supporters, and the club itself would feel if his doctors said he was ok to keep playing and the AFL made him retire? It’s got to be either Paddy’s choice on his own or on a doctors insistence. In a case like this I think the medical findings need to be made transparent to the AFL. Then, if paddy wanted to ignore that advice , the AFL would have to act.
