  1. Theres far too many Birkenstocks on display here for my liking.
  2. I feel like Tom’s level of professionalism can never be questioned.
  3. Let’s just hope it doesn’t end with ‘Heaven knows I’m miserable now’.
  4. How’d you get that? I don’t see that anywhere on the site?
  5. Drove passed Whitten Oval yesterday. That’s a huge new development going in there. If that’s the scale it takes to maintain an AFL club then we are going to be heading very far out for a permanent home - which seems counterproductive.
  6. I’m interested Roy, as a Victory member, on your take on the proposed ban on supporters at games? Do you think most members will be furious about this, or do you think they’ll accept it as punishment for a horrible event? Its a bizarre situation, and I wonder if members will ask for money back.
  7. I agree. I think given the financial situation of the club currently they’d be really happy with the fixture in 2023. Now we all just need to buy memberships and show up!
  8. I still feel like we aren’t dynamic enough forward of the ball in terms of our talls. I’m very hopeful JVR takes one of the spots. Also, all of my concerns would be evaluated if we didn’t kick the ball so poorly forward.
  9. Honestly, that’ll be a massive improvement.
  10. Well, again, that’s one less game in Melbourne I’ll go to next season. So between our Red Centre announcement and this I’m down 2 games of footy in 2023 I was hoping to see live. What a gift this drip feed of the fixture is.
  11. I do so apologise if my lack of financial resources came across as ‘churlish’. That’s the problem with us working class. We always look so angry, when we should be grateful. Enjoy your holiday in the sun! At least it’s on the free TV, so simple folk like me can enjoy it.
  12. That’s why I’m bemused by Pert saying it’s now purely cultural. The narrative is about outreach, but the minute we can make more money from this game at the G it will end. Personally I don’t have the time and resources to travel to the NT. I do go to all our away games in Melbourne (of which our replacement game is one). Essentially I’m annoyed because it’s one less game I get to see in person, and I’m annoyed that it keeps getting sold to me as a member as some kind of broader engagement, when I think it’s still about cash. Also, and this is just me having a whinge now, but I loathe the broadcast at that ground on TV. The cameras are far too low, and the shadows of the ground make it hard to see at one end. Ok. Apologies. I’ll stop complaining now. Been a long year. I’m tired.
  13. Me neither, but that’s not why we do it according to the club.
  14. This is a big part of my issue. If we do it for the community and it’s ‘important’, why don’t the club force the AFL to align it with something to make it more meaningful? Meanwhile the most ‘important’ indigenous game is played by 2 powerhouse clubs at home, who use it to line their pockets. It just looks to me like we do a lot to build bridges and get sweet FA in return. One day we won’t go to Alice Springs anymore and the only benefactors from our time spent there will be the AFL brand.
  15. That’s an interesting read. Thanks for sharing. Looks like it’s here to stay. I look forward to watching us travel around Australia every week in July and August while Geelong play their last 12 games within an hour of their homes. Won’t frustrate me at all.
  16. Yeah, I hear that. I guess I feel like it’s hard for us to be perceived as a more powerful club when the general population turns on the TV and watches us play a home game in front of 4000 people, 3000 of whom are barracking for the opposition. I also feel like every argument made for this focuses on the community engagement aspect. I’m not convinced we should be the only club doing that, when the big clubs do absolutely nothing, and don’t get asked. I know the club speaks favourably about it, so they must enjoy it. 👍
  17. Meh. At what point do we stop this? Big profit this year. Is this really necessary? It certainly isn’t translating into much local support. Am I missing something? I’m less than indifferent about it.
  18. The AFL industry has a diversity problem amongst its broadcasters. If you’ve been on the wrong end of the stick you know when to say ‘that’s not ok’. If you haven’t been this stuff slides, and people who aren’t smart enough to understand subtext assume that sliding means it’s ok. Garry should have said something. It’s that’s simple.
  19. Nothing burns more than being called ‘an anonymous person on the internet’ by an anonymous person on the internet. I’m not sure I’ll ever recover.
  20. Quit clutching your pearls. When you say something publicly, as she did, you open yourself up to the conversation. I wouldn’t say anything about Weed’s mum. Why? Because she didn’t put herself in the conversation by commenting publicly. See how it works?
  21. To be fair Genghis Khan and Ivan The Terrible were also ‘popular teammates’. I feel like his mum is fair game. She waded into this with her ill judged Facebook comment on the day he effectively resigned, not when he was traded. I do think time will make this all go away. I think LJ is still 3 years away from his best, and by then we will all have moved on.
  22. My niece has a school play on Tuesday. I bet the b*stards at AFL HQ are already planning how to steal her thunder.
