I didn’t think the umpires had any impact on the game at all. We got belted around the contest and outworked on spread.

I am, and will always be, a huge wrap for this current list of Melbourne players, but that was as lifeless a performance as we’ve put in for years. We got out coached and out worked across the ground, and we showed virtually nothing in response. I’m actually struggling to comprehend it. The Brisbane game I put down to emotion and context, but that performance I’m thoroughly confused by.

It’s a very lifeless performance across the board. I’m actually shocked at a side that is this mature has looked so disengaged.

The AFL tribunal is a joke. Carlton argued that McKay was trying to ‘push’ - but with 2 elbows up that hit him clear in the head. It’s like the tribunal is so at pains to declare its independence from the AFL that it deliberately flies in the face of what the league claims it’s trying to do. Protect the head - but run at a guy with both elbows up and hit him in the face, that’s fine.

Is this the worst umpire bouncing performance in AFL history?

How good is the score review? Just really adds so much to the energy of the game.

We are doing ok. It’s hot, the Eagles have a plan, and 4 supporters on the field pretending to be umpires. I feel like some of our players are doing well. Jack Viney is growing with every game, Nibblers tackling has been great, and Fritta knows where the goals are. Koz needs more work on his goal kicking. It’s a raffle. He’s much better in traffic.

That knock was as innocuous as it gets on a footy field. I just can’t see how he, or his family, are ever comfortable with him playing a contact sport again. It’s only a game. He’s achieved so much and should be so proud of himself, but you have to think long term.

Clarry’s biggest problem in the Brownlow is the same as it’ll be for most of his career. He plays alongside Tracc. If he played on his own for almost any other club he’d probably have 2 already.

This is a really interesting observation. I actually think that overt emotion will become the defining factor of human expression in the next 100 years. As we move into a phase of easily acquired AI content only irrationality will help us sort the human from the simulated. The Demonland game day thread may well become the Rosetta Stone of our times.

I couldn’t watch the game because unfortunately I’m cruising through the Mediterranean, currently floating off the coast of Sorrento. Can’t wait to see the replay. There’s not really any point to this story. Just gloating.
