Why Luke Dunstan came to Melbourne
The heart beats true replied to george_on_the_outer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I just watched the trailer on Stan for said documentary series. I’ve never been so glad to not be a professional footballer in my life. Bunch of self-aggrandising salesman pretending to have an interest in the lives of young men for huge financial gain. Honestly this is not what our sport needs. I’d rather see a documentary about regional footy teams doing everything to survive rather than some bell end in a Bentley - telling us how hard he has to work just to make 600k a year. -
This was so good. Well done @Deespicable When you read that list we’ve had the privilege of seeing a lot of outstanding footballers. As an aside I once played a game of footy in 1998 with Brian Wilson for Heidelberg (really good standard of footy). I didn’t even know he was going to play, he just showed up on game day looking 20 kilos over his playing weight (and he never looked that fit when playing at the end of his VFL career). He kicked 8 goals from a forward pocket. Absolute freak.

Part 4: Dees top 100 of the past 50 years 21-40
The heart beats true replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
My favourite thing about reading these is that I’m shocked at the strength of my reaction, and then I read the description and talk myself around. Steven Stretch! Too high. Fritsch! Gone way too early. Stan Alves! Far too low. Johnstone, Sylvia and Davey all too high! It’s brilliant fun. Thanks so much @Deespicable -
I had my booster on Saturday and tested positive Monday - so not enough time for it to work effectively. My partner and a friend of ours both had boosters in December, and both tested positive but with no symptoms. The booster seems to be much more effective than just double vaxxed. My entire family got told today that their PCR test they did a week ago had to be thrown out due to huge demand. I wouldn’t be buying the numbers. I suspect they are 100-200% higher than what is being reported. So many people I know are sick.

It’s starting to feel like the success of the season is going to be based on reinfection likelihood. We are clearly in the transition from pandemic to endemic, so this year is going to be all about how young athletes react to being re-exposed. I’d suggest most players on a list in Melbourne and Sydney will have had Omicron by Round 1. It’s about what happens then, and that is still anyones guess. I’d also imagine WA might find it’s delay strategy potentially damaging to its football teams. *As an aside I’m on day 5 of having COVID. It was harsh, but it was very much the flu. I’m 43 but my younger friends (late 20’s) bounced back super quick and got it done within 3-4 days. My older parents (70’s) took about 6-7 days to move through it (all double dosed). I’m happy to answer anyones questions. 👍

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs

Don’t watch me at the footy then. There’s age inappropriate reactions happening everywhere. -
Part 2: Top 100 players of the past 50 years - 61-80
The heart beats true replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, he referred to himself as a ‘landscaper’ when asked his occupation. I was such a Brett Lovett tragic as a kid that I told my mum and dad if I wasn’t going to be a footballer I wanted to be a landscaper. Today I live in an apartment and own exactly one plastic plant. -

Brett Lovett was my idol as a kid. He was a pure footballer, and for a long period of time was an absolute star. It’s easy to rank the current guys higher because they won us a flag, but I reckon Salem has to do it for another 3-4 years before he’s remembered as fondly as Lovett. I hope he does, and I’m sure he will. -
Saturday Morning on Demonland (12)
The heart beats true replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Here I am this morning at the McDonalds in Leopold waiting for a coffee on the road to the family. Just keeping a lid on it this Christmas. My partner said I look like a sad, sick kid trying to raise money for a children’s charity. It is a sickness of sorts. We won the flag! GO DEES! -
I’ve thought the same thing about McGowan. His popularity lives and dies on the AFL. He’ll fold like a deck of cards when the AFL says no football for WA. It’s just populist nonsense. He’s got the Nullarbor plain to thank for his popularity.

I appreciate it’s frustrating for people who attended the event to go and get tested, but I really don’t understand criticism aimed at the workers at these facilities for the speed at which they are working, or them wanting to leave work at an appropriate time. They are most likely exhausted, and working long shifts. We are 2 years into a pandemic, and it’s pretty obvious we’ve got a long road ahead of us. Lets not forget that what is stressful for you today has been a lot of these health care workers entire lives for 2 years. They are owed our kindness and appreciation.

I hope Bailey is ok. He’s a fantastic footballer, and we need more personalities in the game. It’s easy to forget that our very own Max was able to become himself away from the spotlight. Bailey is only 21 and very much in the public eye.

I’m just disappointed I didn’t think of this first and create a thread about the club targeting me… ’Pros - will be cheap. Cons - no turning circle, no left foot, …and he’s 43’

My favourite thing about this is that you also just happen to have a picture of Tracc on your pantry too. You might be the biggest Demon tragic in a sea of Demon tragics 🤣

Grand Final Celebration at the G
The heart beats true replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hope everyone who could make it to the G is having a great day. Yell at the umps for me will ya. 👍 -
I actually really like the idea that the GF replay kicks off the season. That feels right. The real problem is the Thursday night stinker. It’s been a garbage game for years. It also means those 2 teams get TV games for the first 3 weeks of the year - which sucks all the air out of the start of the season for the impartial fan. If Richmond hadn’t won 3 flags the AFL would have canned it. Time for it to be buried in the weekend and for Thursday night to by GF replay. Reward the competitive teams.

Jon Ralph's big early predictions for 2022
The heart beats true replied to FlashInThePan's topic in Melbourne Demons
I love these kind of nonsense ‘predictions’. Even if the Eagles want LJ he’s a former number 3 pick whose only gone up in value - meaning we’d want the equivalent of a number 1 pick and another top 10 to contemplate a trade. So they’d essentially have to finish on the bottom to facilitate it and then give up something else - which isn’t how you rebuild a list if that’s what’s he’s trying to propose. My Early Prediction: this isn’t happening. -
The geniuses at the GCS have already delisted him to give them more wiggle room in the remainder of the draft.

Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
The heart beats true replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Between listening to JT and Goody it’s obvious the club looks for certain character traits in its players. Fully expecting an announcement video for a new receptionist that begins with ‘we really like what Sharon brings with her competitiveness, desire for the contest and willingness to compete. She has excellent character, and leadership’.- 777 replies

I’m looking at it as a glass half full. In Victoria 92% (and climbing) are doing the right thing and getting vaccinated. That’s an incredible effort. The media need to focus on the outliers because they help keep peoples attention, but the numbers tell the truth. People are free to disagree, but it’s to their own detriment. We should let them disagree, while focussing on the positives. If some of this stuff gets less oxygen then it runs out of steam. It’s like complaining about losing to Collingwood in the year you’ve won the flag. Does it suck? Yes. Will it be remembered, or make any difference to how history interprets the year, and the overall effort? No.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
The heart beats true replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just saw it was because people couldn’t keep politics out of a footy forum. Pity, I really enjoyed @binman description of contemporary cultural dialogue. It was one of the most eloquent things I’ve ever read on here. Anyways, back to gloating about the flag please. -

Yeah, what happened? Is it gone for legal reasons? -
This kid could go down as the best player in his draft. I think we should start calling him Jamara Ugle-Bowey, just to really annoy the Dogs fans.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I just read that ‘story’ about the supposed nightclub incident. Imagined that this was your job? ‘well I heard that someone said something over a balcony and then all hell broke loss (but nothing happened)’. I’d be embarrassed if I was Campbell Brown. Surely you can do something else with your time. There’s a job shortage. Take advantage. -
I think this guy has a lot to offer. He looked very capable for us when fit. I hope he gets a chance as I doubt he’ll not take it.
