Journalists these days show a blatant disregard for ethics. And I don't see what Neeld would think he was achieving by involving the AFL in a witch hunt, if it's an internal issue. Anyway, along your line of thinking, it sounds like you'd be settling on Royal.

Who says it's coming from inside the club? If it's blatantly untrue it could be coming from anywhere. If I were to guess, I'd have thought it was coming from Collingwood. Angry Eddie has been making threats, and was completely abusive in his behaviour towards the club in the Jurrah situation. Spreading rumours is not beyond him, to destabilise us in retaliation for "poaching" their assistant, retiring player and physio. Not to mention gunning for their deputy head of recruiting - this could be a tactic to make us look less enticing to him.

Well I have some doubt. I actually joined in, because I was particularly unhappy with the umpiring at the time, and figured the booing was for exactly that (since only an idiot would boo the players in the circumstances). How many others could have done the same?

I think, with a new coach, who has come in to effect swift and drastic change, forming a relationship will take time. Considering the circumstances, I think if I were Moloney, I'd feel uncomfortable referring to the coach by a nickname as if there was a level of familiarity there that doesn't actually exist. The fact Neeld clearly is seen as an authority figure amongst the group, cannot be seen as a bad thing. Bailey was mates with all the players, and where did that get us?

I saw it differently. I thought the crowd was booing the incredibly poor umpiring decisions immediately preceding the siren. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

I don't think Sheedy is great at coaching football now, but he is great at managing a coaching group. Malthouse, I think, is both. But then again, maybe being that great manager of people is what makes a great head coach. Their duties aren't actually about coaching footy, but doing to multi-tasking, delegation and management. That's probably why a highly regarded development coach like Bailey was a monumental failure as a head coach - the required skillsets are vastly different? It's hard to know exactly not being in the AFL coaching game myself.

Fair enough, and it's something that did concern me. You can't yoyo and drop a different 6 players every week. Or even worse, the same 6 swapping week in week out. Watching the tape may have revealed some basic yet ultimately forgivable mistakes that hurt but can be ironed out. Player feedback may have made a difference too. I still maintain it may look like players are not trying, but it is very difficult to show effort when you are unsure where exactly to place that effort. That split-second hesitation and the opportunity is missed, making you look like you're not even trying.

Fairly disingenuous to blame Lyon for Bailey. No wonder he wanted nothing to do with the process the next time, with supporters willing to so misguidedly point the finger.

I don't know that there's conclusive evidence that we haven't. Squabbling over skinny draftees is to ignore the real issue - and that is that the club needs to be in order before worrying too much about the draft selections. And I know that mature-bodied players would have been ideal, but I don't think we truly had access to any quality ones that would have made a positive difference. Luke Ball would have, but I don't think he was a realistic option.

You find it quite easy to do about Scully... I judge him on his performance on and off field, just as you do even though you pretend to take the imaginary high moral ground.

If it makes it easier for you to sleep at night thinking that of Scully, then fine. But it is subjective, and I see it differently. I think Colin has served up more than enough evidence for us all to be able to judge him fairly.

What excuses? I'm just pointing how your strategy would have lead to an ultimately more bleak future, or even none at all. Our club's situation combined with Daniher's list strategy mortgaged our future. Not intentionally, and I'm not sure what else he could have done. But we are on the way to rebuilding the club, and building the list is taking longer. And it has to come 2nd. It is possible, but it takes time. I just listed a handful of mids, plus others. I don't think he really belongs in that group. I really do think Neeld could make chunk into a star.
