Caroline Wilson's descent into gutter journalism
rjay replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
...as much as most won't like it the AFL may well need to appoint someone to oversee the club and that may well be Gillon as a mentor to some new blood. My preference is Cook, maybe it's another challenge he would relish to rebuild the MFC and he would have the AFL stamp of approval. This does presuppose that the MFC is important to the competition. The AFL will need to be seen as proactive and if we are to avoid tough sanctions then this may be the answer. From my point of view we can't go on as we are with the bad blood that seems to still be attached to the club. -

The board took sides; when kiddies fight they both get sent to their rooms. Both sides of this fight should have been sacked immediately, then at least we could have moved on. So bloody angry about this mess that should have been sorted out in 2011. -

If true, and it is now more likely than not then I couldn't agree with you more. In the words of my old man "when more than one person knows it's no longer a secret". 10 or more is just plain dumb. They need all the votes they can get, looks like their internal polling company will be working overtime on this. If there are votes in it they will come out swinging like true pollies. -

I feel the same way 'Roost It' and have for a fair while now. I think Neeld and the new FD will always be pushing up hill unless changes are made, we had the chance to clean the slate after 186 and blew it by taking the easy option to sack the coach. He should have been joined by another couple at that time. Yes it would have caused a level of instability but nothing like the instability we have faced over the last year and a bit that is still not settled. -

You are probably right mate, should have used the words if proved true... I am however worried about the governance of the club if it is and surely nobody would be stupid enough to have a meeting, a quiet word in the ear should be enough. -

Total incompetence by the people running the club at the time. Anyone really think we can go on with the same people now? and who in their right mind would give a 3 year contract extension this year? and how involved are members of the current board and who is overseeing the interests of us the members? I'm beyond totally p...... with this and will leave it there. -

It is on the SEN podcast this morning with KB, comes in half way at about the 4 min mark. In a nutshell he believes the AFL was at fault and in denial about tanking in the competition and it would be hypocritical to take action against Melbourne. Hope the link works. Cheers. KB is joined by Patrick Smith -

Like him or not Patrick Smith put up a pretty good defence of the club today with KB. I don't always agree with Patrick but many on here write him off too easily, I think he has a different view on a lot of issues and whether you agree or not they are always well thought through. -
I think Taggert is a similar type player and I like the look of him more, Trengove and Grimes are others. If we get Wines we have another. Need to look at some good outside running ball getters, MacRae, Haynes, Garlett, Kennedy would be a better bet.

Like Essendon did when they asked for Hurley last year, and like last year Caddy won't get to where he wants to go. He is not a free agent, either a satisfactory deal gets done for GC (Wellingham will not be it), he stays or takes his chances in the PSD.
-
Minimum ask will be Beams.
-
You can guarantee GC will be looking after themselves, don't worry about that. They will be wanting Beams, Pendlebury or Thomas or no go from them. Remember last year they wanted Hurley from Essendon and the deal fell through. Caddy will go to whoever can offer GC the best deal, not who Caddy wants to go to. As for Adelaide, if they get pick 2 for Tippett my bet is they will pick up Toumpas and not Grundy, would guarantee it with Ox's 98%.

We have a big bodied kid who didn't get on the park much this year in Taggert, strong mark, good kick, think he will be a ripper and at pick 30 ish..... Just saying.
-
Maybe his mind is in different place at the moment. He seems to get a lot of raps, I just don't see it. Has the emperor got no clothes or can he really play?
-
I'm with you Ben, I've not seen a lot of Caddy but from what I have I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Would rather keep pick 13 and use it wisely.
-
Not sure about Caddy, hasn't really set the game on fire and have to agree with the post about this draft and the available talent at least in the first round. We also have Rory Taggert who is already a bigger body, good pace but yet to play senior football, good skills, elite kick. Would Caddy cost us someone like Stringer? Just thinking aloud with a keyboard, dangerous habit at this time of night.
-
They have a kid called Smith who will be a top line ruckman, I wouldn't think it's high on their list and if it is they will have first shot at Grundy.
-
F/S is done before trade period Pennant, pretty sure another club will bid for Danniher, maybe even us so they will be forced to use their first round pick. We are in the box position for Caddy if we want him.
-
...and I doubt GC would take him with his injury history, they would want someone like Cremeri or Stanton and that's not going to happen. so we are in a good position if we want him.
-
Brian Taylor = Rex Hunt with hair.

7 are wasting their money covering live football, they should have paid for replay, crowd and bench shots and left the football to someone who actually want to cover what's going on. I swear I'm going to throw something at the tele if we miss any more live action tonight or if the producer looses the f..in ball again. Good game though.

I think Mick Malthouse could be used more as he is on top of the current game and very much the same for Cameron Ling, you can see the respect he gets from and gives to the players in his boundry role but he would be a world ahead of most of those masquerading as expert commentators (Luke Darcy a joke for one, Kingggy, Lynch...........................).
