  1. For all the nice words that Josh spoke about Hogan staying on, being happy to etc. The subtext was obvious. Jessie wanted to go home and he was gone, we could have held him another year but it wasn't really in his interest or ours. We wanted May and he was ours this year if we could arrange a deal. Next year he's a free agent but then we are back in the pack with a host of others in a bidding war. Far from guaranteed and adds salary cap pressure. We get a quality defender now when we need him, it makes sense. I know you think we played this wrong 'kall' but only time will tell. To me the logic of the trade stacks up.
  2. They've got guns...don't have to push them out like the others.

Both struggle to get on the park... Menzel is the better footballer but if they're sitting in the stands both are equal.
  4. Thanks for posting this... After listening I was thinking a bit about it and maybe a way to get a more diversified coaching group would be to have some kind of rookie or category system where a club could take on someone. I guess a bit like an apprenticeship. With the current FD cap it makes it harder for clubs to devote money to these type of initiatives but this could be outside the cap. ...and for those wondering what our coaching group has been up to over the break, this gives a bit of an overview of the passion for the game and people Jennings has. It can't hurt the club that he's out there not just in elite pathways but seeking a better understanding of people and cultures. Also good to hear the involvement of Whelan and Jetta...the club is in good hands.

    Spot on 'Mach'...
  6. I don't think this is appropriate on a Demon fan site....who is this Hogan anyway??? Might have to censor yourselves 'Demonland'
  7. I couldn't have expressed it any better 'Colin'... He harks back to the days of the Don Scott special comments, "the boys got to go harder".
  8. I don't think you can claim the high ground as "voice of reason" on viewing 3 games from a kid with concussion problems. I've seen enough of his early football (a lot more than 3 games) to know he can play. Not being blindly optimistic as the voice of reason I will say if he is over his injury concerns he's a great pick up.
  9. I would think if we have a new sponsor then we (and they) would want to wait to get the best bang for buck on the announcement. Surely now is not the time. I have no doubt we have this well in hand and as others have said we are now a hot property.
  10. Roughly about one season 'Fifty'... Previous once in a generation players to name a few have been Lynch, Danniher, Hogan, Boyd, Moore etc.... The way once in a generation is going I'm pretty sure we can get it down to a week.

Confucius says, “the green reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in a storm.” At this rate he's heading for a fall...
  12. He's also been tried and failed (for the same reasons) in the ruck.
  13. Roos played there as a developing player and played it well before making his name as an attacking defender. I would think he has a little more footy smarts than Frosty...
  14. Pity he had to fluke that shot in '87....

Name another club with more than 2 good/reasonable KPF's? Richmond now have 2 West Coast have 2 Hawthorn have the ageing Rough Geelong have Hawk GWS have Cameron and an injured Patton Collingwood have Cox and whoever else they use to pinch hit Port have Dixon North have Brown Swans have Buddy EFC used their full back when Daniher couldn't play this season etc. etc..... Our list is in good shape, we have pretty good coverage across the board.

Hardly a junket. Unlike our political masters I think the coaching group deserve these trips even if they gain nothing but some valuable time off. However, I'm sure they do gain some good insight. It can't hurt to have a look at what others are doing, discuss, learn where appropriate and ensure we are up with or even ahead of the latest trends.
  17. Might be another WA furphy... I'm sure we all remember Jack Darling.

That's a different story. You trade in needs but draft best available. We just traded in needs both skilled players who have pace and can kick...which is as it should be. We might yet pick up another before going to draft.... Guarantee Josh will say "best available". You invariably come unstuck when you try to draft needs.
  19. rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
All those picks were best available. The classic recent needs picks were the Saints with McCartin over Trac ...and us taking Toumpas. When you get to the later picks it's pure hope...hope we can land one. You trade in needs. Have a look at our recruiting under Prenders and you will see that WE Have been there before. Only a fool drafts needs.
  20. rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
We've been here before.... You don't draft for needs. It's a recipe for disaster. Best available every day of the week. You can think of picking for needs but then make sure you extinguish that thought and pick best available. ...and that best available must be a competitive ball winner, tall, mid or small. If they're not then they're not best available.

That's an understatement 'Dr'... He should be talking to the ambulance chasers to see if he can get it embargoed and take action on who put it together.
  22. Unfortunately when they link the salary packages of key staff into revenues/profits that's what we get. As a not for profit this should never happen or be allowed to happen.
  23. Yep, draft should always be best available. The draft board is littered with clubs who got this one wrong. Trade for needs...
  24. I think you are writing his obit a little early 'hemingway'. The form of Leukaemia Bruce has can hang around a long time with minimal intrusion. It's not like the more devastating forms some get in early life. My father had it for near on 30 years. ...and it doesn't excuse him calling EFC everyones 2nd team. They most certainly aren't mine...who in their right mind has a 2nd team anyway?
