Dees considering big trade plays
I suspect it would have been Barnett we were targeting. There were multiple articles highlighting our interest in him and we obviously felt ruck depth was a need with Verrall eventually selected in the Rookie draft. I wonder who we would have selected though if Allan happened to somehow still be available, another player we were strongly linked to.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
A familiar name to keep an eye out for next year is Melbourne NGA player Riak Andrew (192cm fwd), brother of Gold Coasts Mac Andrew who was taken at pick 5 in 2021. He will have to be outside pick 40 for us to have rights to him. For some reason he didn't play any NAB league games this year, does anyone here know why?

TRAINING: Monday 5th December 2022
Rookie player going back 10 years now. Dominated the EFL as a key forward kicking 80 odd goals. He contracted viral encephalitis and was hospitalised for 2 weeks during the early stages of the season. You can read more about it here if you wish. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/77853/williams-lucky-to-be-alive

Jumper numbers for season 2023?
I wouldn't take those numbers as gospel, pretty sure they were wearing this year's training kit so it was more a size fit than anything else.

Who missed out in the drafts?
Also would imagine F-EB will be at Casey next year.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
This is a strange response for mine. These kids have put their name on the radar as 17yr olds and still have a full year of growth and development from a physical and football perspective. Of course the list of "top 10" will chop and change over the course of next year. Cadman, Ginbey and Humphrey weren't on this list last year while Hayes and Lemmey were taken much later on draft night and Teal not taken at all. Still, 7 out of 10 of these listed players last year were taken in the first round and 5 in the top 10 itself. We have 3 x first rounders (1 future) and 2 x second round picks to play with which gives us the strongest draft hand we've had in years. Worth keeping track of the talent on offer in my view. Also the phrase "next year is next year" will be equally applied to the end of the 2023 season and I would put money on us attempting to trade up as high as we can with the draft capital we have.

Every Team’s Draft Ranked
ESPN Chris Doerre continues to dislike our performance at the trade and now draft table. Melbourne Picks: 15, 38 Players drafted: Matthew Jefferson, Jed Adams Grade: E Rationale: Melbourne's first selection in Matthew Jefferson was a speculative one for the stage in the draft. Jefferson is an athletic and strong marking key forward who doesn't need a lot of the ball to hit the scoreboard heavily but will also need to start finding more of the football more often to become a consistent key forward. Adams was a surprise choice in the second round given his injury history though is an athletic defender who has played a competitive brand of football when available.

2022 AFL NATIONAL ROOKIE DRAFT
An article linked us to him earlier and we're allegedly keen on a young ruck so wouldn't be surprised to see us pick him assuming he's available. Also on board with @Pennant St Dee and hope we look at Sam Gilbey as a medium defender. Not a real need for us but I really like Blake Drury as well while Jonti Shuback might add more depth to our wings if we go down that path.

- Dees considering big trade plays
We're only taking one more pick so this won't work. Maybe f1 and 37 for 22 and a f2?- Jumper numbers for season 2023?
I think more sizes from previous season 6 Jackson to Grundy 12 Bedford to Hunter 19 Rosman to Schache Mostly like for like height wise. I reckon Jefferson would look good in 12.- DRAFT DAY TWO: THE 2022 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT
Looking at our list it I think our needs are ruck, medium defenders, small/medium forwards and perhaps a key back to future proof life beyond May. Ruck: Barnett, Foster, Verrall, Knobel, Northam and Madden (would probably put a line through the last two). Medium defenders: Cowan, Ryan, Gilbey, Teal Small/medium forwards: George, Clarke, Burgiel and Hotton (both mid/fwds), Long Key back: Hayes, Van Es, Davies Obviously not an extensive list but some of the more well known/talked about prospects. Be interesting to see what sort of player we will prioritise for the national then positionally fill at the Rookie. No doubt there will be other names in the mix with most likely some smokies most haven't heard of. - Dees considering big trade plays
