Heeney I reckon would've gone close to winning if he played the whole year -
Think you've gone prematurely there, I read it as he has been offered a much better contract which Melbourne have no intention of offering him so he will now be traded. If he was meaning free agency and Howe was a restricted free agent, they would only have to trade if we did match it which wasn't what he was implying.

Brisbane Lions Consider Asking for Priority Picks
Nascent replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lol, they didn't even finish last and had the same amount of wins as we had last year when we were told we were too good and had too much talent for a priority pick. Zero chance of a priority pick now if the competition was run fairly, unfortunately.... -

Adam Treloar Games: 76 Age: 22 Height: 182 Weight: 84kg A little bit astonished that a thread hasn't been started on this extremely talented kid. Dangerfield aside, this kid should be the No. 1 target and will be sought after from multiple clubs looking to add a quality and potential star midfielder. Collingwood have been all the talk lately for a trade back to his Victorian state but we should be able to satisfy GWS in trade options through superior picks, will just be a matter of convincing Treloar that the Dees are a viable option both financially and finals wise. Ranked 30 overall in the AFL player ratings (however they work), he compares very favourably to Demonlands regular hypothetical trade jizz inducer Dylan Shiel (ranked 70). He averages more disposals (27.4 v 26.1), tackles (5.4 v 3.9), marks (3.7 v 2.7), uncontested possessions (17.4 v 16). Wins the same amount of contested ball (10 each), and disposal effeciency is about par (74.5 v 75.1%). Kid is a gun and would certainly fit our desire for an A grade midfielder, I hope we go hard for him. *Stats taken at time of posting of thread from footywire

Seems to be a race between two. Hogan or Cripps Brayshaw, Miller, Lonie and Heeney also impressing in their first year. -

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Nascent replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Probably not worth starting a thread on this guy as I believe he has re-signed until 2017 last year and is not a midfielder, but Adam Kennedy from the Giants can't seem to get a game this year after being a solid best 22 player since their inception. Can't say that I have seen a great deal of him but to my eye he appeared to be a good small defender with skills and pace that could help free up Salem to the midfield. 23 years old and has played 59 games, only 5 this year. Worth keeping an eye on? -

Prestia, Treloar, O'Meara, Dangerfield. If we could land just one these players I would be ecstatic. Just imagine if we could trade for one and land danger as a free agent. Time to clean myself up and come back to reality -
Had to laugh while reading Brisbane attempts to garner support for a priority pick this year. leppitsch-makes-plea-for-lions-priority-draft-pick Brisbane Vs Melbourne 2010 (wins, ladder position) 7 (13th) 8 (12th) 2011 4 (15th) 8 (13th) 2012 10 (13th) 4 (16th) 2013 10 (12th) 2 (17th) 2014 7 (15th) 4 (17th) 2015 2 (18th*) 5 (15th*) Total 40 wins 31 wins So past 6 years they have won 9 more games to date. The last three seasons they have finished higher than us on the ladder. Go back further and while we were claiming our second wooden spoon in a row in 2009 the Lions were playing finals footy making it to the semi's. Going by the AFL's reasoning for not giving us a priority selection because had sufficient talent on our list with promising players to return (Clark, Hogan, Toumpas), I'm not sure they can say that the Lions list of Rockliff, Redden, Hanley, Beams, Christensen, Taylor, Zorko, Aish, Martin and Rich is devoid of talent or more worse off than ours. Leppitsch also stating the AFL have taken away their "acadamy advantage" by making them pay a fairer price also riled me. If they get a priority pick I will be ropeable

And just when you thought we couldn't get any worse...
Nascent replied to Giles's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can't disagree much with what you both have said. We were a mile off on Sunday and was one of the most painful games I have witnessed live, some 100 point losses included. My issue is more with over dramatic posts/attitudes that crop up that sporadically proclaiming that we are in the worst state that we have ever been. I highlighted 2013 as surprisingly some here have appeared to have forgotten that horrid year (probably a wise thing for their mental well being). Sadly until we have a solid 22 players that can execute their skills and make correct decisions, we are going to experience a few more frustrating losses. -

Can you seriously tell me that we are not a more competitive and better team now than in 2013? FYI we have also won 3 more games from that year with 6 games in hand if you want to look at it from a straight win/loss perspective? Some people get so angry after a single loss that they forget the progress we have made, despite how long it is taking. -

2013 first three rounds Vs Port 54 - 133 --> 79 point loss Vs Essendrug 36 - 184 --> 148 point loss Vs Eagles 83 - 177 --> 94 point loss We also had 3 more losses that year over 90 points. I get people are upset by a 6 goal loss but lets keep things in perspective shall we? -
Is Toumpas a Yen or a Triss man?
