Players to target at the end of the year

I don't know if he meant to hit cox in the head, but there was definite intent, was high impact and he knocked him out cold. Long holiday for the [censored]. Provoked or not. Dog act. -
Where does it end though? How many leg ups do you give to a failure? How do you teach a fool responsibility and instill dependence when you keep giving charity to fix their mistakes?

Good post. Funny, we'll not so funny thing is that they can use the same reasoning that they used last year to deny us a PP, again this year. PP is dead. We'll it is for us anyway. We have squandered so many 1st round picks one could argue we are in this mire from our own incompetence. Does that mean we don't deserve another PP? Hard to say. One thing is for sure though, if any team needs one it's us and if we're denied one and another team is deemed worthy I'll be [censored]. Would it surprise me? Unfortunately not really. Although a PP will help we need to become more ruthless ands efficient with the picks we have. Need to find more bargain 2nd rounders ala Mcdonald and Howe and we need to keep nailing our first rounders. We will be the ones responsible for digging ourselves out of the hole we dug- no more AFL assistance in the form of free picks.

Matt daaamon

Then we should have dropped him weeks ago
-
Disappointing that he's speaking to everyone else but us, but we move on. Just like Jimmy said, the AFL has set up an environment that forces young players to lie. Best of luck Chippa, now we move on.
-
If true we won't play him anymore, as per what roos has said
-
Going off their performance against freo I can't see saints finishing last anymore, although who knows if this was an aberration or the start of a mini revival? I can see GWS sending a little FU to the players wanting out and saying if u want to leave we will ship u off, but don't think u can walk out on us and be greedy enough to chose the state, we will get premium compensation if u chose to do that. GWS probably are playing a dangerous game being over accommodating to players wanting out. They will soon see themselves being a feeder club
-
The draft hasn't saved us previously because we have squandered the picks and developed poorly. High draft position doesn't guarantee success but it gives u a better chance. I still feel we are a few quality players off being a competitive team and our best chance of draft success right now is getting picks that are good enough to gazump a few teams and do a deal for proven, more mature players. In saying that Salem proves roosy knows what he's doing at the draft table and I have faith we are going to be better in the medium term because of this
-
If Cameron wants out he will probably end up at Brisbane- depending on whether the saints tank or not. That leaves GWS with pick 1 and us with either 2/3 or maybe 4 as our first pick. If petranca is as good as ppl are saying he's GWS bound. We won't have the picks in the kitty do do another Tyson deal- unless spud leaves and we package both pics together, but is the talent in this draft strong enough for someone to deal for 2 picks inside the top 5? Who knows
-
Winnable doesn't imply we will win them, just that we are in with a shot..
-
Who said anything about celebrating not winning a spoon? Finishing anywhere in the bottom 4 is disastrous. There's more shame in winning the spoon, at least there used to be, before things like tanking and draft pick optimisation theories started coming into play.
-
Those opportunities will still be available to said players whether they are 1 club players or not, if they have the capacity to take advantage of those opportunities of course. My statement wasn't a blanket one. Pretty sure I saw travis Johnstone at the unemployment line one day, but in all fairness that could have been a number of indiscriminate scruffy vagrant looking chaps.

Sport has always been a business it's just become a little more ruthless and competitive now. The days of loyalty are long gone. You should adapt. I find it very hard to understand that your attachment to the club is eroding because it has to keep up with the times or die. I argue that if that is your stance you were never as much into the club as you were into the idea that a club is about mateship and loyalty- it isn't. It's about flags. I couldn't give a [censored] what particular group of players deliver that flag, and what kind of environment that occurs in either.

Sayriconholme is giving it a mighty shake-up
-
That is true, but with GC having so much to play for I can't see them dropping that one. Would make for an interesting etihad clash the following week. I have a feeling whoever gets pick one does a deal with GWS for Cameron- assuming its saints or Brisbane. GWS then use 1 for the best mid and we use our highest pick to get a highly fancied mid either from GWS or another club who has excess stock and wants a bite at one of the promising KPF stocks. Or of course we don't deal with anyone and keep our first and possible frawley comp for the draft. Hogan will be enough to cover frawley leaving if it was our intention to turn spud into a fwd
-
We're wedded to the club, not the players. What nutbean said
-
For the Bennell call? Just some harmless fun. On another note where has our friend Stuie gone? I see another poster in demonland is trying to take over the throne as biggest and most effective troll in internet history..
-
I never wanted Bennell to come home, that was just a g up to another poster on here but they never took the bait. Oh well. The only 2 winnable ones left IMO is the GWS and the brizy game. Can't see us winning in Paterson, we never beat north and we also have the hawks. I can see us snagging at least one of our winnable games and can't see Brisbane or GWS winning 2 more each that would be necessary to relegate us to stone cold last.
-
Some people hold this club to such a low standard.i know we don't have the best list going around but when did the possibility of winning the spoon become such an acceptable thing?

Players to target at the end of the year
Jesse Christ replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I heard once that they are going to stop giving compo pics to teams that lose players to FA, what a load of [censored]! We better get our affairs in order before that happens -
Players have every right to seek the best possible deal for themselves as this is their career, and for many of them the only major source of income they are ever likely to receive. Take emotion out of it, from a business point of view they would be silly not to try to sell themselves to the highest bidder. Every time they step out on the field they are literally risking their necks for the jumper, so the least we can do as supporters is not question their loyalty when it's contract negotiation time. Loyalty is a romantic notion, but that's all.
-
Because finishing last means you performed worse than every other team in that season, and that is bad.
-
We won't finish last, we will have to lose all our remaining games to do that. We have 2 winnable ones left IMO against Brisbane and GWS. Although saints winning their freo game has me ll twisted. It would be disastrous winning the spoon this year, make no mistake
