Who cares what he says in public? I don't take a thing Roos says at face value. 'We didn't pick the right team' sounds better than 'Winning this specific game isn't that important to us long term, so we were willing to sacrifice it to see what would happen if we backed our system in the whole game'. Not saying that's what happened but, if it is, that's what I'd prefer Roos to say at the end.

This is so underestimated. Nobody in the media questions Roos when he talks utter guff but I've always thought he is taking the heat for both the players and the rest of the coaching staff. And I'm absolutely certain they are letting it roll this year and seeing what happens. As they get towards the end of the season, Goodwin will know who he wants to go with and who he doesn't. I predict that at least a couple of big names won't be in our Rounds 20-23 teams...

You've said the same thing. And I'm not surprised you couldn't help trying to have the last word.

Ah! So just quoting out of context without the rest of the discussion. Look, I'm not interested in getting into a patented Stuie nitpicky fight. I'll leave it there.

I'd say that, right now, they still have a huge part to play in carrying that team, which is the point you are ProDee were discussing. We rely much more on good performances from guys with 0-50 games to win, whereas I'd say in almost every win St Kilda have, it is the older players who really step up and drive performance. We have guys like Oliver, Hogan, Kent, Harmes and Viney that are the variables when we win and lose. I think you've deliberately misunderstood me.
-
I think the St Kilda older brigade are way ahead of ours. Montagna and Riewoldt alone just carry that club and have been the bridge between the old era and the new kids coming through. We don't really have that, although Vince and Jones are good. But if those two had retired a couple of years ago, the Saints would have really crashed in that time I think. We still rely on our young blokes to carry the team over the line a large proportion of the time.

No drama, Chicken Little.

So are you under the illusion that at some point we were just going to flick a switch and not lose another game for the year or have any bad performances?
-
That's disingenuous.

You let the outcome of football matches and seasons control your happiness in life far too much, in my book. It must be hard being miserable the whole time based on something you have absolutely no control over.

I think we're getting overly concerned here. 2 out of 3 from that chunk of games is fine. Does anybody seriously think that 9th at this point isn't a great result for us? All of a sudden, we're looking ok to finish 9th-11th somewhere and people are screaming about how terrible it is. Have you not been watching for the last 10 years? We were always going to have ups and downs this season. Losing this game isn't the end of the world. We could have played better, we could have been coached better. But let's not go overboard - we're still learning and are still playing ok footy most of the way through. And for all the negativity, what about celebrating wildly about the fact Hogan kicked SEVEN this week.

McKenzie out next week too. GC in a world of pain. I'm sure we'll soothe it for them.

I completely agree - have been saying the same for about two years.

Are people still going to complain about that run up and pretend Jesse isn't an accurate kick?

Well done, peanut gallery. Top responses to a serious question. -

Perhaps a silly observation, but what effect do people think there might be training on a ground that has detritus all over it? I reckon having the ball rolling through leaves etc would be a different feel to game day - does it matter? Serious question - not taking the p i s s. -
Yep, all fair. Not sticking my head in the sand, but I still reckon he'll stay.

A lot extra money is speculation at this point. He might love Perth but that will be overriden by playing for a good team. And it's Goodwin's plan that he loves, not Roos'. Freo are stuffed. You say they're not like Carlton, maybe they're even worse. Carlton have at least admitted they need to reset and are starting to come out the other side. Freo aren't even close to bottoming out yet, let alone rebuilding.
-
I just can't see Hogan playing the next 5 years in a dismal Freo rebuild just to go home and make a bit of extra money. They are factors, but surely will be overriden in the end by the fact that Freo are in deep, deep [censored].

I played juniors with Leigh and it's definitely Mon-TAG-na. Doesn't matter what it 'should be', as a few people have said.

Don't panic mate, the first of many if you're like the rest of us!

I think they won't drop Bugg no matter what, for the simple reason that the optics are terrible. They won't want the media to crawl all over Bugg about his goal and his lip.
-
Gee that's sensational footage - brilliant that they make it available.

The odds of them debuting at Metricon are negligible.
