  1. Yep, too many of our best are down on their best. To win big you normally need all your best being close to their best or at their best (2021 springs to mind) You're probably right about Turner up forward but he apparently played well as a forward in a hit-out recently Ordinarily there's be no consideration for such a left-field role but we are down to only one KPF due to injuries (T-Mac) ... and he is out of form We're in a spot of bother, DD and I'm not sure any of us have got any miracle solutions It's looking like Gawn will have to go forward again if Grundy comes in. Again, not ideal but what are our other choices?
  2. Yeah, that's a good point, Gonzo So Oliver & Viney are the mainstays with Sparrow, Jordon (if recalled), Kozzie, Petracca himself, Rivers (?) ANB & maybe even Salem to share the midfield duties (or in some cases running through the middle) Along with Langdon & Hunter on the wings
  3. Someone like Ray Chamberlain would be fantastic in the role. Completely impartial, fair and a well balanced person with zero bias In fact, more of the umpires need to be kept on within the AFL ... and we need more women involved especially on the Commission The boys club element and favouritism that goes on needs to be halted Up until this bold and correct move by Laura Kane, the MRO has been a complete joke and a farce
  4. We don't often make any more than 3 changes but 2 are forced for next week for starters Agree on Jordon & Grundy Maybe Turner coming in as a forward could be a left field move but T-Mac would have to make way you'd imagine (if Grundy comes in for JVR allowing Gawn to have a few stints forward) Hibberd will probably stay and Spargo could replace Chandler. Tomlinson or Turner as the sub with Laurie out of the 23? One thing is for sure, all our best players need to play at their best if we're to beat Carlton So Gawn, Petracca, Langdon, Hunter, May, Lever, Rivers, Salem, Oliver, Viney, McVee, Bowey, ANB, Pickett & Sparrow all have to play well next Friday (I've got Petracca playing well as a forward) If that happens, we win We've got the talent and we've got the class. We just need to perform from the get-go
  5. , We also need to find a midfield combo (without Gus) that allows us to play Petracca forward periodically I favour a more medium sized on-the-move forward line with ideally, forward 50 entries that hit targets with lowered eyes Kicking long just for territories sake is a waste of time given our current personell Yze & Stafford need to come up with a more scientific approach ... our current method lacks intelligence and is lazy
  6. We are going to have to change things up in the forward line if we're going to win next week The real issue is personell and that's something we can't fix this season Our forward 50 entries are more often than not boundary side or with the use of the long bomb - neither works I'm reminded that in the 2021 GF more than around half our inside 50's came from the boots of Salem & Petracca with 30-40 metre bullet kicks What's happened to that strategy? Spargo kicks well into the 50 so I can see him being recalled And our forwards need to be on the move leading every which way I can see a few late night meetings for the MC
  7. Players and coaching is at fault if we're slow out the blocks
  8. No, we're winning the flag against a filth team that doesn't include Maynard And guess what? Gus makes it back into the GF winning team whilst Maynard watches on The above is a true story
  9. T-Mac's mobility was not up to scratch last night but with JVR out, he'll stay in the team by default. Not ideal but his aerobic capacity at least aids him later in the game (as you mentioned) I'd say Gawn will have to have stints forward next week. It's lucky we've got another ruckman in Grundy to step in. Turner or Tomlinson could come in to help out forward or back Injuries and now ko's and suspensions have cruelled our season Brayshaw out takes 25 mostly efficient possessions from the overall team output. He'll be missed terribly Somehow, we're going to have to patch together a functioning forward line
  10. My Kingdom for a KPF
  11. It usually spells trouble for the perpetrator. They are saying 3+ with all the criteria (severe impact etc) That's according to Tom Browne so don't quote me (haha)
  12. I agree with everything you've said there, Ouch So if we ignore the 'fake-arms-in-the-air-smother', Maynard just basically took Brayshaw out with a charge. Used to be called a shirt-front It was not a footy act and too many have bought into the bs smother story. Because that's all it is ... a story
  13. Specifically the first quarter? We were rattled and let them get away. Effectively, that was enough but we nearly caught them And they missed 3 very gettable shots in the first quarter As for the rest of the game, we just blazed away with not enough purpose
  14. Yeah people here are going to vent and they're angry because Gus being taken out changed the course of the game We were effectively a top player down and we were rattled. Now, we should have been able to deal with what happened but we were like rabbits in the headlights for a good part of the 1st quarter ... and effectively, we lost the game there and then The old Collingwood tradition of starting a fight and then banging on 5 goals while the other mob are distracted worked So let the punters vent, layz
  15. It's called doing the right thing, layz Whether it helps us or not is irrelevant. As a supporter of the sport, we can't have players taken out in an irresponsible way
  16. I've got a Collingwood mate who can be biased but when pressed, is brutally honest He's saying Maynard is as guilty as sin and 3-4 weeks but the MRO will let him walk free Ok, a tiny sample size but I reckon many share his view (but not publicly)
  17. 4-5 weeks and it sends a message Gets out of hand and then even those who are supporting Maynard now will change their minds
  18. Not for me layz If Maynard was a Demon I'd have him absolutely guilty of uuduly rough play And 4 weeks holiday
  19. There is no doubt that what Maynard did will be outlawed (if not already) So if in the future that type of action carries with it a suspension, why should he be not found guilty now? To me the loophole doesn't save him Do people here really want to see players taken out with heavy front on contact on a regular basis? Should we adopt the same practice if it's a free-for-all? We're trying to clean up the sport and to a large degree, that's been successful but it's a 360° sport where loopholes exist ... players will get away with what they can get away with Anyway, Goodwin is seething about what happened and rightly so
  20. And if Smith had have been knocked out unconscious, Kossie might have got 4-6 weeks
  21. It certainly does but the league will outlaw the practice if it gets out of hand Which will make the Maynard incident reportable every time But why should he get away with it stretching a ruling now if it is going to be outlawed in the future? Suspend the player now and send a message
  22. One was a marking spoiling contest and the other was a poorly disguised attempt at a smother (with intent to hurt) Vastly different curcumstances No comparison at all in all reality There was an element of Van Rooyen making the player earn it but all perfectly legal Maynard's was a thug act which appeals to those with bloodlust in their veins. That's why he's got a voice But the public are often easily conned ... I remember a time when 90% of the footy public thought that Essendon had done nothing wrong with regards to taking PED's (protecting their sport)
  23. If Maynard gets off we should absolutely take up the same practice Run at the ball carrier with arms stretched upwards and then follow through and take the player out 10 times per game
  24. Agreed and I believe the incident last night is connected to when a defenceless Daicos was taken out by the Hawthorn player (front on heavy contact) After that incident, Collingwood were probably thinking ... is that now legal? And if so, how can we do a similar thing and get away with it? Well they found a way alright Probably dirty that their best player (Daicos) was taken out and looking for their twopence worth the next time they got a chance Back in the day when the sport was ultra-violent, all sorts of ways were enacted to hurt opponents. In effect, the Maynard hit is just more of the same A throwback but nevertheless, also a con
  25. I saw it as a con right from the word go. Probably a planned act as well. Looking for a loophole that isn't there So whilst Brayshaw is lying on the ground unconscious all Dangerfield & Richo could say was that the Maynard hit was a football act? Another pair sucked in by the outstretched arms If it was a football act how is that we don't see that action on a constant basis ... instead of basically never We see smothers, but never like that It wasn't a smother, despite what Maynard has said. He's trying to stretch a ruling Accidents happen in football but that was no accident. His object was to hit and the arms up in the air is serving to confuse To me, it's best to put your mind into how dirty players go about it So you yourself have just admitted to having while line fever so given that, you should be taking up my angle. Put your mind into Maynard's mind At best it was clumsy but that still means at least a 2 game suspension (at least) By the way, it's not sour grapes on my part. The Pies were the better team on the night and fully deserved to win But Maynard has to go
