Venturing off to Sha tin today and it's a good card for the exotics. I've gone down the Exacta's path as I find the dividends can often be quite healthy up there, all things considered Races to look out for are races 4, 5, 7 & 10 (in terms of good betting races) Full Card Sha Tin (Fields, Form & Odds)

I'd leave it at 6 (for the time being) as people can always add 1 or 2 choices of their own Wadda. For instance, a few here made mention of Tagaloa but again, we can't go too wide. And Tagaloa missed getting into the finish anyway. Banquo was another but there has to be a limit. The Trifecta can be a preferred mode as well so 6 picks is definitely enough for that type of exotic. For instance, I've swung over to the Trifecta option with a smaller wager on the F4. And if we keep missing on the F4, interest will die. From my point of view, the exercise was highly successful but it looks like I was the only 1 who took out a trifecta with the choices. And having 7 or 8 choices can be an expensive exercise too. I reckon we run with 6 but as you've indicated, we have to pick the right race. Next week there are 3 group 1's but on 3 separate days Friday (Moir Stakes WFA 1000M) Saturday (Golden Rose 3YO SW 1400m) Sunday (Underwood Stakes WFA 1800m) Keep in mind that the Golden Rose might only attract a small field (8 starters last year) whilst the exotic dividends for the Moir & Underwood were very healthy last year. But neither race is held on the Saturday. There may be other options (another Group 2 or Group 3 race out of Sydney on the Saturday?) but I reckon the choice should be a high profile race where the interest is high to begin with. I'd probably lean towards the Underwood over the Moir as we've got more time to put the exotic together. But it depends on the field ... a small field won't suit. Looking ahead the Turnbull St, Epsom Hcp & Metro Hcp are being held the weekend aftet next. All Group 1's and all big fields (generally) Footnote: Black Heart Bart won last year's Underwood at 100-1!

Pogacar replaces Roglic as the leader and is the virtual winner of the Tour. That was one hell of a time trial. Pogacar just smashed his way through it. Quite incredible! And Richie Porte rides his way into clear 3rd position and an overall podium finish. Only the 2nd Aussie to do so. An eventful night to say the least!

We were a tad unlucky with the track being upgraded to a Good3 too. Peter Mooney, Gator and a few others in the know were saying (around lunchtime today on RSN) that the track tends to favour on pace runners once the surface becomes a fast one. The backmarkers just can't catch up once the leaders kick away in the straight. So Cascadian, Superstorm & Age of Chivalry couldn't make up the ground quickly enough. By contrast, Achernar Star drew the inside gate and had a relatively cushy run. Behemoth did make up ground of course but he may be heading for a stellar career.

Go Hawks! (That will net you a nice return - good luck) I wasn't even really thinking about the trifecta until the tips starting coming in. Was really confident that Behemoth would either win or go close and then we'd only need 2 of the remaining 5 to get into the first 3. F4 are a lot tougher to get but the payoff is often terrific. Any other combination of the first 3 that crossed the line would have paid a healthy 4 figure amount too (especially if Behemoth finished 3rd) In the end, I put more into the Tri than the F4 for the above reasoning. 6 picks seems a lot but is it? With huge pools and numerous chances, 5 choices isn't enough for me. Esp so for the Cup races and races like the Everest, Derby & Oaks. The adage - take a smaller percentage of a bigger dividend. I reckon the concept is worth persevering with but we'll all need to get the odd collect to keep the interest up. But even the exacta paid 100 and the quinella 80. Later on I thought about Behemoth winning with the other 5 to finish 2nd or 3rd. Cost of 20 for a return of 846. Punters lament! Footnote: Watched the replay a few times and Behemoth is an absolute beast. Jockeys aren't big people but Williams looks really tiny aboard the big boy.

Only audio here but it must have been some sort of run by the Big Boy ... carrying 60kgs as well. What a horse hey!
-
Hope a few others got the Tri Well done to JV & Wadda for picking Dollar for Dollar & Pretty Brazen. There's no way I would have included both.
-
Thanks Spud Yeah I got a half decent % of the trifecta so well in front. F4 paid 26k ... we got close!
-
Kolding looks to be back in business ... it's last start 2nd was the pointer But alas, I was on Avilius ... didn't run on but it might have one big run left. Maybe Verry Elleegant couldn't get out (?) Only audio here but the caller said it was unlucky.

Good call again JV

That's the way we race in Australia ... and I doubt it will ever change Other jurisdictions around the world it is way different. Here - its often a free-for-all but luck works both ways just not your way today.

Race Day! And the Demons are playing for a finals spot. Bit like the old days when if you couldn't get to the game you'd listen in on 3DB or 3UZ (the racing channels) And we were often broadcast on either of those 2 channels. 7 total minutes of footy action over the 3 hours!
-
Seeing we're on a new page I've quoted the exotic combo post. And it must be said that the racing up at Randwick is first rate tomorrow as well. Verry Elleegant looks the winner in the George Main G1 but Avilius might not be done with yet. And both Paul Joice & Ron Dufficy have picked Life Less Ordinary (was 20-1, now 12-1) in the Kingston Town Stakes (Race 8) Should get a nice run in the race. They also both like Prime Candidate 6-1 (Race 1) and Think it Over 9-1 (Race 3) ... bit of value there. Gator's tips are up on the Racing.com site (under the guise of best bets)

I'm doing something very similar Gorg ... the wide exotic (F4 esp) acts much like the multi Small outlay for an excellent return. If you win with the right combo. Got to throw in a value runner or 2 though. And we've done that with our 6 picks It's good fun focusing in on one race as a group. I can trust my teammates. But even if Behemoth wins the exotics can pay well. Especially if Dollar for Dollar & Pretty Brazen get into the finish. I tried the low percentage wide F4 today at Newcastle and ended up doubling my total outlay on the 3 races. And I just missed the last race F4 which paid over 3k. I went 3/7/7/7 instead of boxing the 6. Got the winner in the 3 races but that's the beauty of group racing. Finding the winner is easier compared to benchmark races (IMV) Mugatoo won well again ... an ADATR Blackbooker!

Don't mozz things Gorg!!! Don't you know the golden rules of punting (unwritten) ? Shoosh! Let's face it, there's a heap of chances but you can't have them all. But I know this, if we do land a Tri or F4 with these picks (in the right combo) the dividend will be healthy. Esp if Behemoth is run out of the finish. But the big boy is the horse to beat. It's drawn well and Williams shouldn't have too much trouble getting the horse out in a (probable) truly run race. The topweight at 60kgs but the lightweight horses are carrying 54kgs (instead of 52kgs) As always, you need a bit of luck.

So we"ve got our 6 choices for the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes. If there's a scratching in the morning Wadda can post up the sub choice. And we can all get our chance to post up the possible sub (in rotation) but you've got to be available to do so on a Saturday morning Might be best to hold off on having a bet in the race post the morning scratchings. Just a thought. But let's hope we can get a collect first time up. All our choices have been winning or running on well in good company so we're definitely in with a chance. Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes 1400m Group1 $500k #1 Behemoth (Default Pick) 7-2 #4 Cascadian (DZ) 12-1 #5 Superstorm (Macca) 9-1 #6 Dollar for Dollar (JV) 25-1 #11 Age of Chivalry (Gorg) 9-1 #13 Pretty Brazen (Wadda) 15-1
-
#5 Superstorm is my choice I will post up the list later in a separate post but the other 5 choices are in the quoted post The all important numbers are ... 1, 4, 5, 6, 11 & 13. Use them any way you wish.

3 x Group 3 races today at Newcastle (including the Newcastle Cup) All decent fields too ... Mugatoo being the hot favourite in the Cup But I'm doing a few small F4 bets (testing the water for tomorrow!) Go to Racenet.com for the fields & form
-
And we now have 5 choices for the 6 pick exotic (Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes) #1 Behemoth (Default Pick) #4 Cascadian (DZ) #11 Age of Chivalry (Gorg) #6 Dollar for Dollar (JV) #13 Pretty Brazen (Wadda) If there aren't any more takers by 6pm tomorrow I'll post up a choice. But I like all the choices so far anyway ... My first 3 choices have been taken up but in such a wide open betting race, there's a few others to choose from So we should have it all finalised by tomorrow evening. Putting a bet on is optional of course and up to the individual in any way they prefer. I'm tossing up between a Tri & F4 but I might split my outlay and have 2 smaller bets on either exotic. And a small percentage can still deliver a very decent dividend. Thanks in advance for participating.
-
And we have 3 choices already for the 6 pick exotic (Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes) #1 Behemoth (Default Pick) #4 Cascadian (DZ) #11 Age of Chivalry (Gorg)
-
Some nice value there fella's I've already worked out a few doubles and a treble as well as using 1 or 2 picks as place options (in small multi's) The big multi only has to cost the price of a coffee but there is always value within all the picks. And there's still a couple/few best bets to come in. This is the bounce-back weekend, I know it ?

@layzie @Gorgoroth @DemonDave @Dr. Gonzo @JV7 @Dappa Dan @titan_uranus @DeeSpencer @Clintosaurus @Dee Zephyr @Go the Biff Might copy & paste the above when I think of it Anyway, 2 points on offer in the tipping comp this week. No leaderboard yet as we're all still in the barriers (Chautauqua style)

@Wadda We Sing @Dee Zephyr @JV7 @Biffin @rolling fog @Gorgoroth The Team Exotic (for want of a better term) The choices (6) can be used for your favourite type of exotic bet (Quinella, Exacta, Trifecta, First4) A total of 6 nominated horses only in a chosen event (so get in early) n.b. One choice each only If your choice gets scratched you get another choice (once alerted) All choices will be collated at the end of the week for your perusal (Friday or Saturday) Nominate 1 horse only - it's not multi choice. No pre-empting please. If possible, nominate your choice along with your best bet (in the same post) Remember, it's all about the team! This week's nominated race is the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes so good luck! Executive decision - unless anyone has any objections, we can include 'Behemoth' as the default 1st pick. That way, everyone else can look for some value. So we're really only looking for 5 more choices. And I don't mind in the least if I miss out first time up ... so go to it ladies and gentlemen. First in, best dressed. I'll make a choice on Friday if all the slots aren't filled by then.
