Yeah, it is.

No credit to TEN whatsoever. Fancy insulting their audience with that crap in a $700 million industry. Mind boggling.

He also said that he can't kick far and isn't as fast as Naitanui.

Tell me that you don't really believe that Richmond tanked yesterday ? I can't believe that you're even contemplating the thought. West Coast don't want to win one more game, but they may beat Freo as every player on the field will be giving their all. And the PP isn't such a big deal for Freo, as they get theirs after the first round of the draft. Whilst it would be handy, an extra pick 18, or thereabouts, isn't quite the fillip that it was in last year's super draft. Not enough to tank over. Besides, Harvey is presently coaching for his career.

Flower finished in '87. Those picking Alan Johnson and Brian Wilson aren't taking into consideration the OP's timeline.

"Mooney, Mooney, Mooney !!!" Pity she doesn't speak Greek.
-
I would have. Granted, it's not a skill everyone possesses.

Clearly I can read better than you spell. Anyway, why would I bother reading your personal information ? Your gender matters little to me. I merely didn't want to refer to you as a male in case you weren't. But you do sound a little female. And sink what slipper in ? I merely corrected your silly assertion. Btw, I tag team nobody.

Probably the worst sounding voice I've ever heard.

I'll assume that you're not the brightest fellow/girl and spell it out for you. Tankers, like me, expect (and know) that the players are giving 100% and are totally committed to winning. And we make evaluations on their performance accordingly.

Mark Thompson summed it up the other day when he said "there are some players that get games based on form and some that get games for their development. Tom Hawkins will be playing for the rest of the year". It's a pretty simple philosophy. But possibly not simple enough for some.

1. There are 6 games to go, not 7; and at best I see us winning 2, which would mean missing a top 3 pick by one meaningless win. But we'll see. And no, she's right, there aren't any guarantees. But obviously the percentages favour the very early picks as being potential stars. Do I need to name them all for you. I can and will on request. And Scully most certainly will be a star. FFS, he'd be our best mid now. 2. Adelaide haven't won a flag in a decade. Essendon may or may not get close to a flag. It's the chance at a flag that some of us crave, not just being "a good team". You say Adelaide "are consistently at the top end of the ladder". So what ? Show me their flag. Have a look at the top 6 thread. It will give you an idea where the best players come from. It's predominantly early picks and first rounders. 3. So we won two in a row. Big deal. We beat Port and West Coast at the G. We virtually always beat those teams at the G. Even when we're [censored]. Some supporters are very easily pleased. We're currently crud and the one thing designed to help us, the draft, is being massively compromised for years. We do have some young talent coming through, but we need to stock pile as many as we can while we can. The AFL hands out priority picks for a reason. They give them to teams that need them. And we bloody well need them.

You didn't like the MOONEY, MOONEY, MOONEY !!! exclamation ?
-
You had to edit that post, Mono ?

What a pathetic comment. I was quite prepared to judge her on her merits, but had to turn the sound down. The voice was like a nails down a chalkboard for me. Her flat, nasaly vowells made Andrew Maher sound like Richard Burton. And her comments/cliches were particularly annoying. I couldn't listen to her again.

Nice post and I understand the moral highground. I'll give you a Geoffrey Robertson hypothetical: "It's round 19, Akum, and the Dees are 3 and 15. One thinks that the Dees will beat Freo at the MCG in round 20 and you're pretty sure that rounds 21 and 22 will produce losses against Carlton and St. Kilda respectively. This will leave the Dees on 4 wins. With round 19 in mind, do you do anything from the coach's box, or during the week, to ensure that you may lose one more game ? Of course you don't tell the players to do anything other than give 100%, and you ask them to do everything in their power to constitute a win, but would you as coach, or as a supporter, do anything that may effect the result that week ? It may be a decision at the selection table, or a move/rotation during the game." Here's the crux, Akum. You genuinely believe that this player and an extra top 4 pick will make a huge difference to the club's chances in challenging for a flag in 5-7 years. You have to weigh this up against the possibilty of one more win while at the bottom reaches of the ladder. Do you try all out for 1 or 2 extra wins, or 'list manage' with an eye to the future ? What's your decision bearing in mind those exact perameters ?
-
You're right. Richmond won 8 of their remaining 11 last year and have tremendous respect in the football world. If you want respect you'll get it with a flag. And you'll get a flag with stars. Presently we don't have any. So you might be waiting a little while for the 'respect' you crave. Especially with the draft being obliterated for 5 years.

Since 1990 1. T. Viney - ToTC / AA / B&F 2. J. McDonald - AA / B&F 3. A. Yze

Understandable. Perhaps even an omelette. Would you at least share where you currently place Morabito ? He seems to polarize people. I understand the querys on his disposal when running full tilt and the odd questionable decision, but I also see his upside at AFL level and what he can do with his size, pace, and X factor. I like him, but don't think you're a huge fan. Where do you have him ?
-
You've opened the door to the obvious question. Care to share ?
-
Little wonder we haven't won a flag - and all due respect to the 3 you mention. I'll give it some thought and post mine later. That said, footy has changed a lot. Flower was a true winger (when Barassi didn't have him off half back) and wasn't really even a typical mid the way they play today. But we'll work within obvious parameters.
-
Thanks. I saw him at Etihad and he looked classy.
-
Two things. 1. I completely disagree with your notion that one player can't make a difference in a club's quest for a flag, as they can and do. Judd was a priority pick and the Eagles wouldn't have won a flag without him. Franklin was a top 5 pick along with Roughead and the Hawks wouldn't have won a flag without him. North wouldn't have won 2 flags without Carey, ....Stars make others around them better. We need to assemble stars. And the best chance is at the pointy end of the draft. If the Saints win the flag this year they will have done so on the back of Roo, Kosi, and Goddard - 3 top 2 picks. And yes, it's a team effort, but throw in Ball who was pick 3 and Hayes who was also a first rounder and a pattern starts emerging. I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet by referring you to a thread titled "top 6", but that thread explicitly deals with exactly what you've just said. It goes to the crux of where we disagree and I think it goes a long way to disproving your view. 2. You didn't answer the question. As for the rest of your post; all will be revealed over 7 weeks and you may, or may not be right.
-
Correct. I'm referring to Brett, but Jarka did say Glenn. I don't remember Glenn being overly exceptional with his handball.

I thought of Lovett when I was posting, but didn't bring him up for 2 reasons. His prowess was in long, sweeping 20-30 metre handballs, and you're right they were brilliantly weighted and always hit their intended target. But his hands in close weren't as quick or as damaging as Scully's. This leads me to the second point which really is the crux of why I left him out. I can't agree with you about Lovett being an "insider". He virtually never played midfield. He played off a half back flank. So when I said "I've not seen a decent handballer in Melbourne's guts since I've been following the Dees" I didn't include Lovett because I don't consider him a mid.
