Please tell me I'm not the only one who took Sam Blease's comment today as a parting shot at Paul Roos. "Geelong recruited me, believe it or not, for the things I can do so I'm just looking forward to using my speed and kicking ability out here and hopefully there's a role for me and it's up to me to take it now." Admittedly, I didnt HEAR the interview but if there was any emphasis on the word can, I'm completely convinced.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JEFF GARLETT
mrtwister replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
Never mind his crumbing. Now we don't have to hold the ball up on the wing to wait for our plodders to get into the forward 50. We can just lob it in and watch him chase it down. -
Not game related but still about today..... Anybody know why Shannon Byrnes isn't in the retiring players motorcade?
-
The final (if he makes it) is at half time of the GF. Assume it will be televised.
-
Hope he goes well in the Grand Final sprint on the weekend. Anybody know how quick he really is? Will he have a chance?
-
As if losing to us at Adelaide Oval wasn't bad enough, now this.
-
Only if there is absolutely no way you can get the ball out it would seem.

Bennell played okay. Sorry old dee, couldn't help myself.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 22

I thought Spencer was injured. -
He essentially gave away a 5m penalty. If it was me I probably would have hit the ball out of his hands as i went past to get to the mark as well. But that's just my bad sportsmanship i suppose. What would happen if he grabbed the ball out of the players' hand and booted it into Level 2 of the Ponsford Stand anyway?

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014

Grimes gone for the year -
Watching the replay now as I hadn't seen the first half. Despite the usual issues with disposal heading forward we have held tough and I think GWS have got a couple of goals against the run of play. But seriously, Kent's poster in the second quarter was a real focal point. If he kicked that goal, the confidence grows and who knows? Lord knows Kent owed us big time with his horrible disposal up until this point in the game too. Instead, GWS get one from a soft free kick straight after and get the usual goal against us in the last minute before half time and that was that.

Parking around AAMI stadium is expensive during the week isn't it. Maybe a COPA could be justified.
-
No doubt. Just don't think another draft pick is the answer. Good coaching, good leaders and some self belief. We've already bought the first one, know anyone who's selling the other two Old Dee?
-
Draft picks don't change a culture. Winning does. If we won those winnable games earlier in the season, yesterday never would have happened.
-
And we won the inside 50 count.

I would think Roosy is at appoint where he wishes he could start telling people to not bother turning up to rehab tomorrow.
-
Roosy may not leave the coaches box let alone turn up to post match
-
Who wants to predict Roosy's post game response. Will he roast them? Will he take the soft spoken fuming rage? Will he just not turn up?

Jetta playing the game out okay

Dave Misson said that Hogan has been training really well. But as he's being compared to these guys, it doesn't seem like much of a compliment anymore.

Footscray v Casey Scorpions (Jesse Hogan returns)

Could be our forward line against West Coast next week. -
I dare say Hawthorn will have their usual 6 or 7 consecutive goal burst that they do against bottom teams. I just hope it's not in the 1st quarter.
-
And one wonders where they would be without their consecutive priority picks and accompanying high picks that started this latest wave of success.

AoB, I took your reference to my 'stupid' comment as disrespect. If that is not the case, I apologise for my misinterpretation. As for my 'simplistic' ideas: 1. Has any recruiter ever changed their mind about a draftee based on their 30m sprint time? I doubt it. I can't foresee a recruiter watching a player on the footy field break clearances and accelerate away from opponents to then decide they aren't quick based on the testing and thus lose interest. Or vice versa. If that is in fact the case, why bother testing it? 2. I'm not saying all stats are useless but I would hope coaches are able to see who or what is lacking in performance without them. Let's face it, a lot of people on here are pretty astute at picking deficiencies without access to any of the data to go by. That's all I was suggesting. 3. It's not a lack if understanding, I just think there's a bit of saturation with numbers as opposed to observations.
