  1. I don't think Matt Jones is in front of him, but I certainly think that Garland will need to show a different level of tenacity and desire to what he shows at present.
  2. I think we have to trust our coaching staff who will know exactly who is sore, which workloads need to be monitored etc. The best thing is that the names that are being touted as coming in aren't just the same old names trying to fill holes. We are genuinely looking at improving our team with exciting youngsters. I honestly can't see some of our big names in the seconds getting close to a game at present. And I think that the most pressure on his spot in the senior team is Neville Jetta, who still isn't strong enough in the contest and loses his feet too much,
  3. Best part of the win, Harmes, Brayshaw, Wagner, Hunt, all just babies. Petracca and Oliver in the wings, and Jeff Garlett has been the best pick up ever.
  4. I watched a lot of this game. I thought Parish was excellent. Tough to debut when your team is getting smashed. He is still quite skinny and will take a while to develop, but he was probably in their best.
  5. I thought the whole side was terrible with their disposal. I thought that there were more positives than negatives. We are still unable to hit targets when we are on the burst. Oliver was great, I think Petracca will be a huge bonus when he comes in. Tommy Mac got better as the game went on. Lots to like.
  6. Second one was at the 'G', in the middle of the ground, the players parted and I had a clear view of it. He just twisted the wrong way, nothing sinister about it, very innocuous. I turned to my mate and said "Schwarz just did his knee", having done mine in similar circumstances. I was gutted. He had killed Collingwood the week before.
  7. Let's leave it to the coaching and fitness staff. They have an intimate knowledge of the playing group, and will hopefully have a detailed plan as to who plays each game for how long.
  8. Hello, do you need any more teams? I would like to enter one if you send me a code, that would be great. Cheers.

  10. I recently visited the Australian War Memorial and amongst the fantastic displays there, I was rapt to see that Keith "Bluey" Truscott was mentioned a number of times for his war service and sacrifice. The only disappointment I had was that nowhere was there a mention of the fact he played for the Melbourne Football Club, or that our biggest trophy each year is name in his honour. He was referred to as an Australian Rules Footballer, but not as what he really is, one of MFCs favourite sons. I understand that hundreds of thousands of men and women made sacrifices during conflicts our country has been involved in, and that the memorial is there to laud these men & women, and not sporting clubs, but I would have liked to have seen a small MFC symbol, or some mention of the fact that he is held in such high esteem by our club. The war memorial is a fantastic place to visit and honour everybody who served in our conflicts. Am I right to be a little disappointed that our club isn't mentioned?
  11. Imagine if we got MCC members to do the commentary. They wouldn't know any of the players names. "Number 10 kicks it to Number 1etc" I like Ed, he is an unashamed Collingwood tragic. At least you know what you get when you press "Red for Ed". It's when you watch a normal replay and the commentators are as bad as Ed when they are meant to be neutral that upsets me. I will watch the replay this week and enjoy it. If they get too much, I will mute the sound. I thought it was hilarious years ago when that w@#$%r Tim Lane said he wouldn't commentate with Ed because Ed was one-sided. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?? Tim Lane, the most overt one-eyed Carlton supporter who almost ejaculated on TV when Judd played a good game for Carlton in his first year there. There are very few commentators who don't let their bias come through. McAvaney loves the Adelaide teams, Commetti the WA teams, Matt Campbell the Lions etc, they are all biased in some way. Whateley and Hudson are painful when they talk about Geelong. The only one who appears to be totally unbiased is Sandy Roberts, but others may disagree.
  12. It will be interesting to see what their move on Dangerfield is now. How can they ask the AFL for money and then chase after expensive free agents? Surely if they receive money from the AFL they will be told that it can't be used to finance Dangerfield? Surely the AFL have learnt their lesson from the Sydney equalisation fiasco to make sure they give the money conditionally.
  13. Reported in the newspaper today that many of their members reverted from 11 day memberships to 3 day memberships, and with a downturn in pokies revenue as well, has had a massive impact. Their membership numbers aren't down, but their revenue is.
  14. James is good friends with my nephews, and played with them at Devon Meadows in the juniors.. He is meant to be a great kid. His old man was a tough p@#$k, not related to Wayne Harmes as far as I know. Played all his footy in the Cranbourne area, played with Lang Lang as well. Was never afraid to dish it out. I'm feeling my age when I remember playing against him!! Good luck to the kid.
  15. Spoken about in detail on 360 and On the Couch.
  16. Why is there such an uproar about this? Doesn't anybody remember a VERY young Jack Trengove tackling Patrick Dangerfield at the MCG and because Danger's head hit a stray knee and he got knocked out, Jack got suspended. Is my memory wrong? I'm struggling to understand all the conjecture. Why the love for Carlton all of a sudden?
  17. Hawthorn were a GREAT team when he was in the magoos there. It was a great grounding for him.
  18. There is still a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go this season. Who and what we target depends on so many variables between now and then, that identifying targets now is dumb. Our biggest priority is to continue to develop the players on our list, get games into Brayshaw, Stretch, Neal-Bullen, Oscar Mac and all our young blokes. Then, at seasons end, we identify our needs, and target them. Roos will turn the list over again, and if he is as successful at the end of this season as he has been after his first 2 seasons, then we will continue to see the improvement we have seen already. If GWS make the finals, why on earth would Dylan SHIEL leave them to come to us? Save the picks, develop the right young blokes and continue to build a team. We need to continue to improve, to make our club a place where talented young players see a future, not a place for old hacks to retire. Then, we need to identify players such as Dom Tyson who have been in the sytem a little while and target them. I have faith in Roos. He acquired a shocking list, and has done the best he can to turn it over and develop it. He continues to trim the dead wood around the club, but knows it takes time. While we have had our ups and downs so far this season, we have realistically had only 2 games that we would have expected to win, and won them both. If we get to 8 wins this season, that is a massive improvement to where we were. We will still have some high draft picks. Roos will use them wisely. Then our list will have changed dramatically again. While we are nowhere near the top teams yet, and really, not anywhere near the finals, let's not look for an overnight fix. Continue to draft top talent, and keep them. Develop a culture, and then, as we look like finishing somewhere near the finals, we target a good free agent. Timing is everything. I'm happy with Lumumba, Vince, and Garlett so far. They aren't A graders, but they have fitted in well and are better than what we had. I don't think that we should waste our time on blokes like Vickery, he hasn't been bereft of chances, just hasn't been good enough in an average team. In summary, is Roos' plan working- Slowly, yes. Do we need to make big deals yet? No, this needs to wait until our kids develop a bit. Once we have 50 games or so into Brayshaw, Hogan, Stretch, then go for it. Timing is everything.
  19. You're on the wrong site if you want to use correct, scientific biomechanical facts to make your point. LOL
  20. The first time I saw Jesse kick for goal, his alignment and where he held the ball were as if he was a left footer. I think that all he needs to do is work on his technique slightly and he will be fine. While everybody seems to rate Matthew Lloyd, I would also rate Jason Dunstall very highly regarded for his kicking technique. He also appears to be a good teacher and have an excellent understanding of the game. I realise he is strongly aligned to Hawthorn but appears happy to help out at other clubs.
  21. When he is coaching a team that he totally recruited, and has had the chance to develop them. When he isn't coaching people like Colin Garland and the like, and trying to deal with their years of incompetent coaching, poor development and shot confidence. Paul Roos is still dealing with up to 8 years of total mismanagement of recruiting and player development. Look at Geelong. where they have guys like Enright, Bartel, Johnson and the like who lead there team on and off the field. We have nobody like that, because our recruiting and development has been so inept. That's why we have to recruit people like Lumumba, to get on and off field leadership and experience into our group. Are we going to be better than we were last year? Yes. Will we make the finals?- Not even close. Will we turn over our list big time again at the end of this season? Yes we will. It's impossible on sites like this, but we need to keep our expectations realistic. A top 10 finish would be a massive improvement for us.
  22. I am old enough to remember when Brett was at Hawthorn. Alan Jeans apparently kept yelling at him "Too slow Lovey!!" He came to Melbourne and matured into a gun. Hawthorn was pretty strong through that era, and could afford to be choosey. It was no coincidence that Melbourne were a good team when he was on a HBF or in the middle.
  23. Guys, I totally agree, I'm not criticizing our guys, I just thought that being up close and personal at both games, I thought there was a lot more intensity at the Blues v Pies game. They are only practice matches, but it did stick out to me.
