BB looks like he might be in for a better year although coming off a low base. Looks much fitter and back to the 2021/North version somewhat. Possibly better than 2021 but time will tell. Macca's a real worry. Looks to be half a yard slower and struggling to cover the ground in comparison to pre-injury 2022. Must be last chance saloon this week surely (until/unless he recovers...still suffering post opp??). A fit and firing Schache would be odds on to get a look in yes? Or alternatively Disco (assuming he hits some decent form at Casey post a few niggles) could come in to cover as the 2nd tall and we move Petty forward for a 3 / 4 week trial. I don't think JVR is a likely savior in the short term either. Might take him a season or two to find his feet. Hoping for more early but can't be expecting the world with a rookie in his first season. Melk is great when he's great but the gaps between his best and worst, even between halfs/quarters, are pretty severe. It's not so much what he does when he's given the ball either. No issue there he's usually a very good user and finish. It's what happens when he/we don't have it. The oppo defenders must lick their chops in that regard. Yep 100% with you on JVR over Melk Although JVR's still raw and would've been more so last season we needed the 2nd tall. It was either JVR or you brought Disco in to cover for Petty and Petty went forward. The latter option finally dawned on the selection com / FD all too late when the game was pretty much gone against the Swans when they switched Petty forward in the last 10 minutes. That move shouldve been made on the Thurs night (Disco in for Petty forward) But alas, no visoon or daring until it was all too late. The Petty / Disco option should still be on the table if Macca doesnt lift and Disco gets over his niggles and finds some form in the Mcgoos in the coming weeks. Petty is a much better forward than he is a defender and Disco will handle the Petty role with aplomb imv and probably be more damaging with his attack and run off HB.

Thanks DOF. Nice to hear this from someone going back who can compare. Im old enough to go back to Greg Parke (the first Demon i remember as a kid as he would choof a ciggy and butt it out as the siren sounded to start a match!), Hardeman, Alves, Wells, Biffo etc onwards. And of course then came Tulip. I'd have to put Tulip in there alongside Clarry. Different types of players though and diff positions. If i was asked who was/is the better player overall wow. Very difficult call indeed until we see how the remainder of Clarry's career pans out. However what i will say is he's the best MFC mid fielder i've seen in my time and anything he does from here is just going to add weight to what is already a stellar career. So reliable and so gutsy. The mark of a great player is not just how he goes in a winning team but what he does when the team isn't. Clarry you star son... fingers crossed you get to 300 plus...and i live long enough to see em! ❤️💙👹💪🏼👏🏼

Try and win the clearances and contested including contested in open play. Make it an insane rugby style lock down stoppage game in the first half. A run with on Pendles & Sidebottom. A hard lock on N Daicos shared between two players... The first player softens him up with close checking/heavy hitting in the first 2 quarters. He is then subbed off for a slightly lighter tagger who can bring the heat but also great running ability going the other way to damage and make him spend more energy defending.

Are you saying they prefer the 'outside 5' option vs standing the mark Mr Leg? Or....are you saying they initially stand the mark then walk backwards away from it even if they oppo hasn't played on yet?

Yes will need to settle within the next two to three weeks though 56 to have any chance of a genuine shot at the big one in 23. Will probably take two to three matches for Grundy to start gelling with the mids & forwards etc. Last week partially a reflection of the fact that they didnt? Playing catch up and having to tinker quite a bit so early tends to give the oppos who aren't having to do these things a bit of a free hit in some matches. Kozzy going out was a huge blow as well as he was in such sparlkling form and adds the zip around the contest that we are lacking. Would've kept Hunt for another season to add some run off HB. We still look too pedestrian down there for mine, allowing the oppos forwards and mids to defend pretty easily. We also can't afford to carry the odd player through a match as we did with Melk last week. Macca also a bit of a liability so far unfortunately. Last chance saloon for him this week surely? The stand out up-and-coming prospect for mine at Casey on the weekend was Oli Sestan. Could be a beauty this kid and if he can show some consistency i'm predicting he'll debut sometime this season.
