What mono said. Good post by BM. This year looks to be a bit roached now for Clazz so anything that resembles a fair game is probably where he's at. Anything above that is a nice bonus. Him & Vines alone were never going to be able to cover the loss of Gus and now Tracc on their lonesome all season anyway. Rapt to finally see Rivers in the middle now though. Keep going with that and also Sparrow more time as he just looks more at home there than a starting HF. Yep he can drift and push into the 50 after CBs but i wouldn't have him starting across the forward square. -
Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
Demon Dynasty replied to Supreme_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jeffo's more than ready for at least one look this season surely. As Diamond Jim suggested in the Casey thread, possibly the round after the Lions vs the Eagles? Def not this week but the call up will do his confidence the world of good and incentive to keep pressing hard at VFL level & on the track. Will also give him an idea of the step up required to become a regular. As Dazzle has said, he'll need time to build his frame from here & we'd need to try & keep him away from the big defenders as much as possible but if he's playing a few quarters or so off the bench i reckon we could (potentially) manage him through at least one game. Let him know the context of coming in and that expectations aren't for him to be a star on debut. Just play your role, hit the contests hard, clunk em if you can or get the ball to ground, help your team mates and have fun. -

A big yes from me. Moniz being groomed in a tagging role in particular to cover the likes of Daicos through the middle and when he wanders up the ground after the kick in all the way to HF. Walsh another potential target for him here. Yes to Jeffo vs the Eagles and Petty down back. Even if it's just one match then back to Casey. Explain beforehand that it might be the case. You're not expecting miracles. Just play your role but play it to your highest ability. You get a brief look at the next level up and what's required in order to stay there. You get to go back and work on the craft again, build the body and tank plus another pre-season before a bigger look in 2025. And who knows, you might hit your straps at the level and surprise everyone and away we go for a fair chunk of the remainder of this season! It might be his time to start shining. Melk gets back towards his best in the next four weeks. All of a sudden things start to click and we find a bit of mojo again and get on a roll. Stranger things have happened. -

He is too small / leightweight and easily pushed off the ball to play mid. Crazy suggestion. McVee is plausible but regardless, most can't just up and change roles over night. They'd need a serious training block or a full pre-season in that specific role to know their role properly before they're switched. Bowey even comfirmed that last season when i asked him what his chances were of playing any HF minutes. -

While Fritta, Petty & Bowey are ripping it up i highly doubt it. Jeffo has been told he won't come under any serious consideration until he kicks at least 6 goals in three consecutive games. Moniz has been asked to back off his form as he's making Bowey look like a scared first year rookie that takes his full time quota to find any safe 15 to 20 meter outlet kicks around the back right now. Even when free players present forward of the ball! And rightly so! Cause slow playing & protecting the footy is the Melbourne way. None of this run & gun, overlap, taking the game on, breaking lines stuff. The forwards at senior level will hate the ball coming in quicker as they're just not used to it. -

Me neither. If he can't get a look in ahead of Bowey coming back from such a long lay off and mostly struggling since returning, then why is he being constantly groomed as a rebounding HB? Never gets a call up so what's the point of this. Play him as a small crumbing / pressure forward for just a few matches and see what he can bring. Casey's done and dusted for this season anyways. What's to lose. If it doesn't work who cares. Send him down back again. if it does work and he starts firing, who knows. You might be able to bring him in for a struggling Chandler up forward and find someone who can hit the scoreboard a little more often plus bring similar pressure i50 to Chin. Or better. -
Good point. May as well play a full on defensive game as you say. Just get the ball to ground as often as possible, try and take the odd grab and distribute or take a shot if in range.

Or alternatively go mostly around Andrews or look for options other than Petty. Petty can also play a high CHF role and take Andrews to places he isn't so comfortable. If Petty has any tank at all after 3 months of footy he could try and get him on the way back also. Not sure he does but who knows. While i won't be holding my breath, i've been wrong before and we just might be about to see things turn for Harry.

Had to laugh. Jack Riewoldt was discussing this on Fox last night. Him, Lynch and Grimes were constantly fighting for 'the best Stager' Oscar when they played together. Walsh & Cripps also aiming for that award weekly. Walsh should be in the mix this week!

Great outlet mark down the line from Jeffo. Resulting tackle from bill was 100% deliberate OOBs against Norf but of course ignored -

That's the best bit of play all day starting with a great blind turn from Laurie and a super fat side HB to break open the play -

Yep skills are pretty ordinary in general so far. Been costly too. At least three goals directly after sloppy turnovers in that quarter. Our finish coming inside (eg; Billings and Moniz) was bog ordinary. Then you had Shack & Woe going up in a 2 v 1 contest under a bombed ball. Surely one of them (Woe!?) would recognise it be more sensible to hang off and potentially crumb? Woe potentially injured out of that. Where / who are they learning this rubbish forward play from? Coach killing stuff. -
Team pressure Quarter For Agn Diff 1 163 174 -11 2 185 195 -10 3 224 197 +27 4 181 218 -37 Match 189 195 -6 Source: Herald Sun Not bad overall but North still had the edge. We were more efficient at converting. Third quarter off the charts. Above AFL average (180) is a reasonable result, a good sign that we might be starting to rurn the corner here Something to build on. The last quarter drop off is a worry though and probably reflects the fitness / tank of select players and some of the rookies.
