This is just Melbourne supporters pulling for the MFC. If Judd cares about the financial situation of the club, we are no chance. As I already said, we can't offer Judd anything that Collingwood can't... except that he was once a Melbourne supporter. Will that be enough? Time will tell.
-
If he cares about the financial situation, we are out too. We can only do so much for him. I want to get Judd desperately, but basically we can only present what we have, take it or leave it. If he wants Collingwood, he can go to Collingwood. Good luck trying to live a normal life though!
-
Melbourne It comes down to this: Money, power, publicity, big crowds, great facilities OR Melbourne I can see the appeal of the other three clubs, but he is clearly still holding a torch for us if he wants to have a meeting. We are the odd club out. P.S.- The Judd is taking over my brain and thought processes!
-
If McLean wanted out, there will be 15 clubs making enquiries. He will be in line for the captaincy, if not next year, then certainly the year after. Richmond are desperate to get some quality onto their list. They should realise though that they haven't got anything we want. Besides, I can't see us talking to anyone but Judd right now. He is priority number 1, 2 and 3.
-
He's contracted, and is in line for the captaincy. If it looks like [censored] and smells like [censored], it probably is [censored]. McLean is an extremely loyal guy. He ain't going anywhere. Judd + McLean + Jones = World Domination :D
-
I hope it's that simple. Unfortunately, if it was, he would have just said 'I want Melbourne'. You can bet that he already knows that the #3 is available, that we're building new facilities and that Ian Johnson is a Melbourne supporter. We are no prized winner, that's for sure. He needs to have a strong passion for this club if he is to turn down playing for one of the 3 big Victorian clubs in favour of Melbourne. Sadly, we are not a blimp on the AFL's radar right now. It's easy for us to see the positives of this club because we love Melbourne, Judd probably doesn't love Melbourne as much and won't be blinded by it.

The latest from Footy Classifieds: The 4 clubs in the running: Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon & MELBOURNE Gary Lyon has spoken to Connolly and Steve Harris today and they are ready and willing to make a big play for him. Gary said he will do what he can to get Judd to the club. He said "he can have the #3 jumper and my first born if it gets him to Melbourne". We have no money, no facilities and no profile to lure him with, so it all comes down to Judd walking back into the club for a meeting and falling in love with the place all over again. We should throw every childhood hero of his into the mix, with bells and whistles and get some of our rich supporters to throw money and houses and business deals at him. As Caroline Wilson said, we have people in high places, but we just don't use them enough. The CEO of Ch.7 is a Melbourne supporter, he has more power than Eddie has at Ch.9. It's time to get serious. If we are indeed in this war with the 3 big Victorian clubs, we have to do something extraordinary to lure him.
-
Can't trade Jones, he signed a new contract just a few days ago (thankfully!!). Davey + pick 4 = MASSIVE WIN FOR THE MFC Hence why it would never happen I hope we're one of the front runners, but it's a dream to think that we'll only have to give up Davey and one pick to get Judd. Again, Judd has to categorically say that it's Melbourne, or he's walking for nothing... otherwise, we can't screw West Coast this much! I will not even contemplate the thought of Judd ever wearing a Melbourne jumper, not until he has signed and I see him at pre-season training.
-
In what way are other clubs more attractive to him? I ask because I am quite surprised by the lack of media attention we're getting with this Judd issue. Are we not in a position, having pick 4 at our disposal and a new coach, to go after him?
-
They have Dick Pratt... the man has a LOT of money, and power, and various business ventures which he can get Judd involved in. Pratt will no doubt throw money at him, because he sure as hell can't throw recent on-field success at him! I don't see why Judd would want to go to Carlton when he clearly stated that he is after success. He is smarter than most football commentators, who all agree that Carlton have a long way to go before they are a force again. Another important point to remember is that Judd is an extremely private man. He hates media fuss, and he has already said he doesn't want to do media when he's in Melbourne. Can you just imagine the pressure that will be placed on him if he goes to Carlton? The media will immediately label him "the man to put Carlton back in the finals". Does he want that? Who knows, maybe he wants a challenge and looks forward to helping a new team win a premiership. There are a lot of 'sources' that claim that Judd is signed, sealed and will be delivered to Carlton soon. It doesn't add up to me, because Carlton and success have not been linked together for some time now.

There are 3 major hurdles here: 1- Does Chris Judd want to play for Melbourne, and is he likely to nominate us as his preferred club? Positives: Young list, with a good future. Was a Melbourne supporter as a kid. Negatives: We're a nothing club. We did just finish 14th 2- Can we pay Judd and have we got outside business sources that we can use to financially or otherwise lure Judd with? Positives: If we get rid of one of TJ/Robbo and given that White, Neita and Junior are unlikely to play beyond 2008/09 we could back-end the contract for a couple of years Negatives: We haven't got the money or pulling power or incentives that Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon can offer Judd 3- Can we satisfy the Eagle into making the deal? Positive: We have early picks, a number of senior players we could part with, and a number of developing players that may interest West Coast Negatives: We haven't got pick 1 or 2, we haven't got Fevola
-
I'm sure Judd will be thinking to himself- "I really want to play for a club that tanked half the season to get the number 1 pick"! The man wants to play finals, not 'tank-a-match'.
-
Because if the best player in the AFL says he wants to play for your club, you make it happen! FFS, this is CHRIS JUDD.... say it with me... CHRIS JUDD. He is the arguably the best player the AFL has ever seen, and if he wants to play in red and blue, we are damn well going to please that man and get him wearing the Melbourne jumper. We are crying out for star players, for players who can bring interest back to this club, a player who can help us win a premiership... remember those? You do not let Chris Judd slip away before you exhaust every avenue to bring him to your club. He will make every player around him better, and he will put us back on the map. Suddenly people will turn up to our games to see Judd in the flash. Remember, he's been playing away his entire career. If we are even a remote chance to get him, he has to be our soul focus this trade week and we have to go hard. I am sick of Melbourne always being the nice guys, and always missing out. We've lost a star player to his home state before (Thompson), time we got one back.
-
I actually changed my avatar because the footy season is over, and frankly I can't stop laughing when I see that little robot dance. I promise that once Judd signs up, I'll change my avatar to the great man wearing a Melbourne jumper. I already said we are not having this competition unless I have the mod award in the bag!
-
That's a fair point. How about Pick 4 + Aaron Davey? *ducks for cover* I'd be reluctant to part with say James Frawley who West Coast rated very highly in last year's draft, and I'd even be reluctant to part with Lynden Dunn or Matthew Bate, but at the end of the day, Chris Judd is Chris Judd. Are we about to miss out on arguably the best footballer the game has ever produced because we're scared to part with someone who has 'potential'?
-
I can't see Cameron Bruce, who is getting married soon, has lived in Melbourne his entire life etc... moving to Perth. We are not trading Bruce. Time to find better alternatives. West Coast are apperantly looking for an early pick and a good developing player. How about... Pick 4 + Sylvia (throw in pick 20 if they want)? And before everyone attacks me, think very carefully whether you'll miss Sylvia when you have Chris Judd running around...
-
If anyone knows rich property developers who happen to be Melbourne supporters, can they persuade them to contact Judd and offer him free property in the booming Melbourne market, if he signs with the Dees? We're meant to have a rich supporter base... surely someone wants to donate something other than various body parts (nuts, left arm, kidney etc...) to help this wonderful cause?
-
WE CANNOT TRADE CAMERON BRUCE!!! It's time to move on from that idea.
-
I love Robbo, but he is being an arse. He shouldn't be dealing himself in the media like some sort of cheap hooker. If he wants to weigh-up other offers, fine. Just keep it out of the media Robbo, FFS! He should take the 2 years and move on. I would be really [censored] off if he chooses to leave a club that has plucked him from nowhere and made him a great player, over an extra year. In fact, it will probably make me stop supporting him in the way that I have over the last 9 or so years.
-
He can have the captaincy too!
-
We can top that offer! Josh Kennedy? Pffft, he is about as talented as Brad Miller! I doubt very much that anything has been signed yet, and I doubt even more that Judd would want to play for Carlton when he can pick any Victorian club he wants. Why go play alongside one of the worst lists in the competition?

The Demonland 'Most Entertaining' poster award
Jaded No More replied to Jarka's topic in Melbourne Demons
Damn straight! Actually, anyone who wins one of these awards can have their title changed (i.e.- 'red and blue' or 'master demon') to say 'winner- most entertaining poster 2007'. If you're a winner and you'd like your title changed, you can PM me and I'll do it for you. (No PMs from losers ). -
You forgot to mention... why would Judd want to play for a club who has been on the bottom of the ladder for 3 years? He might want to come home, but that does not mean he wants to end his career by playing for bloody Carlton! FFS, they are a rubbish team and one star won't help their cause. That article mentions that we're preparing our bid. I wonder if that means that all contract negotiations for out of contract players (Robbo, Trav, etc...) have been put on hold? I'd part with pick 4 reluctantly, as I'd rather get rid of some of our senior players instead (signing Bruce for 3 years earlier this year will come back to bite us in the arse. We now can't use him as trade bait!).

Adelaide Crows to target Aaron Davey in trade week
Jaded No More replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very good! Finals? What finals! -
We won't get Judd unless Judd categorically nominates us as his preferred club. If he doesn't, it's over before it started. If he does, throw the bloody kitchen sink at West Coast, as long as his current groin issue can well and truly be resolved by a simple operation. I would hope we'd peek at his medical records before handing over our left nut and a million dollar. TJ, Bruce, Green, Robbo, Sylvia, Pick 4... whatever it takes to get that superstar playing for this club!!!
