  1. For some reason I feel we are sneaky chance to beat Carlton... not a big chance, just a sneaky one. This could take us to the 11.5.

This question has been answered before. The earning capacity that players have aside from their actual paychecks is enormous and in many situations with the league’s top paid players it far exceeds the money they earn from playing. The opportunities that Melbourne will be able to offer will enable Tom to continue earning substantial money for the remainder of his life, not just the remainder of his football career. I do not know if these same opportunities will exist at GWS, however I doubt it.

    Both would be nice.
  4. I think our membership is very impressive when you compare it against a club like Carlton that has 43,214 members yet far more actual barrackers. Our conversion of turning barrackers into paid up members must be one of the highest in the league.

I can only speak of the Victorian based clubs that I am aware of and I can tell you that the opportunities that players get to invest / venture into a whole range of business interests is astounding. Traditional Victorian clubs have life long die hard supporters and in particular board members in the corporate world that willing to provide players massive incentives and opportunities. I know for a fact that players from some clubs do not require bank loans when investing in properties or business ventures. There are a lot of influential people in Melbourne that are more than happy to provide huge amounts assistance to their football club. I'm not sure how many opportunities like this a player would get at GWS. I am of the strong belief that $500K a year invested with some of the most astute business people in the country will have far greater financial reward across a lifetime than one large hit of say $3-4M. I am also of the strong belief that Melbourne are well across this and will be a key factor when it comes to Tom making a decision.

I am quite confident that we can. I work with board members of other AFL clubs and the benefits into the business world that they receive is enormous. Opportunities that we could only dream of. However I don't think that the player managers get a cut of this money....

In the long run Kreuzer will be far better off financially by staying at Carlton than he would be taking the cash and running to GWS.

I still do not believe that he has gone and struggle to believe that he will go, however, he may have comitted since his press conference. Correct me if I am wrong but he can verbally commit but cannot sign anything yet. He may have told his management that he will take the GWS at the end of the year hence the reason some in the media say that he is gone. It would be very unusual for so many of the media to all be wrong about an issue. Then again perhaps GWS are just doing a great spin job to them all? Lets hope so.
  11. I think Robbo sumed it up pretty well in the HS this morning: "He doesn't play football, he sashsays around a footy field, playing his style of footy and not what the team needs. He's laid nine tackles this year in nine games. Last year it was 21 in 10. Hate to say it, but he plays like he does not want to be there. Hasn't he ''put off contract negotiations until the end of the season''?" http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/the-tackles-round-14-all-australian-team/story-fn5937w8-1226085457619
  12. Disagree with point 1 and 2 1. Melbourne's young list would be a dream to coach. 2. We are the Melbourne Football Club. Not Greece National Football Team. We do actually have money we can spend on a coach you know?
  13. Really surprised people have the view that the Trengove free kick was there. The ball landed right where Trengove was standing, is he not allowed to hold his ground? If the Bulldog layer didn't barrel into him he may have been able to take the mark.
  14. Are you being sarcastic? This tackle is laid a dozen times every weekend across the AFL!! Only reason it was noticed tonight is because it was Trengove.
  15. All these Bulls*it excuses have nothing to do with the fact that last week we actually showed up and cared and this week we did not!!!! Still looking for an excuse? Well please explain this for me: Last week 34 Inside 50 tackles...... THIS WEEK 3!!!!! FOR THE WHOLE TEAM!!!! This has nothing to do with age or games played or stadium or 6 day breaks. It is a lack of pride and respect for the club and its supporters.

Hahaha that is not what I meant at all!!! I think the MFC is completely professional and a place that players these days would choose to play at. The way the club has handled this situation shows this. All I was doing in mentioning Martin is how frustrating it is that they don't have to deal with this situation.

You are probably right that it is equal for all clubs, but if Tom leaves then the cost to start up GWS start up will be at Melbourne's expense. How did Richmond manage to sign Martin so soon and avoid all this!?!?

I think the key phrase you are missing from my post is is "Band Wagon Supporters"

Couldn't agree more and love your passion Tatu!! I couldn't care less if there were less clubs with less money and a smaller T.V audience I just want to see some red and blue ribbons hanging from the cup!! I think people that are happy to "expand the game" at Melbourne's expense are taking their eyes off the prize.

I'm afraid that Tom Scully will hold up a premiership cup in an orange jumper. I'm afraid that Melbourne will get close to a premiership but be lacking that one true midfield star to get us over the line. I'm afraid that offering $7M to a 20 year old is taking away my chance to watch a Tom dominate in a Melbourne jumper for the next 12 years. And I'm afraid that all of this is possible because the AFL is quiet happy to have the heart ripped out of a 150 year old club with truly die hard supporters to gain a few extra band wagon supports in a city that doesn't give a sh*t!!

hahaha I know, what did he call him? A smug [censored] that needs the bejesus knocked out of him!! Gold!!
  23. I like Selwood's nickname, "Bunno" as in Bunnings where they sell wood
  24. I am more confident this week than I was against Richmond... despite the game being at Etihad. I think the depth of our midfield will be too strong and the ruck combo of Martin and Jamar will destroy. Our back line looked back to full stability too. Could be a few changes from the dogs this week. I heard that Jarrod Grant kicked 8 in the VFL. Also Libba and Wallis played well. Is Lake due a call up any time soon? Anyway, I'm putting it out there.... Melb by 10 goals.
