  1. Can someone please enlighten me.

How many players do you need in a team not trying to win, before poor form becomes tanking?

There is nothing black and white or for that matter red and blue in this whole issue.

I have noticed that in some games some of the teams that are 20 points down with less than four minutes to go seem to my eyes to stop trying.

I believe this to be evidence of tanking - and also that the coaching staff are complicit by failing to tell their players to run twice as fast even if there is an increased risk of soft tissue injuries.

Just my opinion of course, but the games I'm thinking of had Collingwood in the waning position and they went on to lose all of those.

  2. I admit I've been wrong about C.Wilson

Initially I felt she was reporting only what was occurring behind the scenes and finally coming out.

The last few days' writing however shows a dedication totally above and beyond the gamut of anything remotely approaching objective reporting and seems to have descended to the level of jihad - totally dedicated to the achievement of a pre-conceived outcome and to hell with any precedent consideration

It's interesting to compare and contrast Patrick Smith's approach in The Australian today

" Melbourne was not the only club and 2009 not the only year"

Wilson writes as if the matter is decided and the only issue where to erect the gallows

The Club should be allowed to present it's side of the matter without this sort of interference preventing a fair defense

I'm very disappointed in the biased presentation of this matter in the Age

Maybe it is time Gina Reinhart took over

  3. Have I missed something? Why the hell, would Adelaide take a risk like this for Tippett? What a joke..... If we were talking about Wayne Carey or Buddy, I'd understand the risk.... But for Tippett.... Really....

    Totally agree

And just to add to the sense of mystery : Taylor Walker is a better player with a bigger future I reckon

  4. Politics - just like footy. It all depends who you barrack for.

Are all opinions of equal validity and value?

There is an ethical/ moral underpinning to politics ( or at least there was Once Upon a Time))

But to be fair in the 60's it was clear who represented the forces of evil ( hint : Murray Wiedeman played for them)

  5. Footy aside-Andrew Bolt is the most conceited apologist for the rich and corrupt ever.

South Africans like him should be working the farms in the hot sun for their black owners.

Sticks up for the strong and belittles the weak .

There is a massive wart on his face that is probably his brain.

May the grim reaper find an easy and speedy path to his door.

A measured, sincere and insightful comment if ever I read one.

He makes a big play of using the term " we" when referring to Australians but I see where you're coming from : the accent is a dead giveaway and the attitudes go with the accent ( as a general rule : fortunately I've met some exceptions although they universally have the wrong idea about football)

Keep up the good work , Biffo

  6. Will always love the club but Demetriou and co. are killing my love of the game.

I'm in team Flags or bust .

Seen 2 Melbourne GFs , got smashed in both.

Getting to the big dance and coming away empty in both has changed me.

Second place will never do it for me.

If I knew we would never win another , it would be over.

I've seen three and we got smashed in two.

    Won the other one.

It was real real good : I've tried to forget it but can't.

Causes a very slow-burning type of addiction.

  7. Tonight they 3 clowns (Roos, Healy and Mike) had Adrian Anderson on and they made

sure they brang up tanking, showed Brock, etc.

If it was up to the 3 stooges, they would've pushed their agenda all show.

I don't know what Melbourne done to Healy, but he is a snake in the grass,

he has a massive gripe towards the club.

Can't exactly remember but it was something like this :

The MFC chose his brother Greg over Gerard back in the day and Gerard has been dripping poison as subtley as he can without being so naked as to be called on it : others may recall the history better than I can.

One thing I will say for him - he's been consistent over the years

  8. I have faced enormous ethical dilemmas since two of my three married children have married outside the faith

( the third lives in Wales U.K. so doesn't really count if she barracks for Wales in the rugby)

Now I have to say that while I don"t believe in mixed marriages, this is a predicament that arguably calls for the wisdom of Solomon and while not claiming quite that level of achievment I would like to share some life experience perhaps to help others gain some vision of the road over the horizon.

The most challenging situation arises when one considers what one should do when negotiating with someone who comes into one's family , does not share or understand the pain and commitment of loyalty to the MFC and who barracks for a team that relatively speaking ( - no pun intended) wins often and easily - in my case Hawthorn x 2

When grandchildren come along : what is one to say?

Can or should one demand or recommend allegiance to the Dees to those who share flesh and blood?

    Well ......

my position is that I have extracted a blood oath from the interpolaters that the progeny are to barrack for whichsoever team is higher on the ladder at the time.

Not looking especially flash at the current time, is it?

However the greater good may be the avoidance of emotional scarring and a lifetime of pain.

    but who knows?

    Perhaps things may change?

  9. I Like Edward McGuire for his fierce dedication to the ideals of journalistic ethics and his single-minded determination to see the truth come out into the naked light of day : no matter what the cost even should it be to the detriment of the football club he represents so constantly.

  10. Two weeks ago at Auskick my 5 yo grandson ( I have several but only one 5 yo) survived to the last round of the football equivalent of poison ball and eventually won it !(wearing his MFC jumper)

The coordinator announced to the ignorant masses : " That's the first win that Melbourne's had all season "

My grandson felt somewhat diminished by that comment.

Now I'm not trying to read too much into these matters but I will say that I do feel we have made significant progress in the last little while and having watched the replay exhaustively it only gets better : many little efforts that up til now we haven't been making did in fact make a huge difference - such as intercepted handpasses and knock-ons that gave players up the ground a chance.

While Rome was not built in a day ( it took six weeks) - we now know what is required.

One or two weeks ago there was no confidence whatsoever in the playing group and how wonderful to see a different attitude on Saturday!

Long may it be replicated !
