I think it is unfair that you pointedly pick up the spelling furphies, hardtrack (oops) What demonland needs is a good dose of Bluey.
-
Agreed - because he shuns the media and I could never ever see him being a special comments man on radio...wait a minute..........

At the end of day I think no-one is immuned for cliches.. well except for me and I will stick to that line until the chickens come home to roost
-
We may vehemently disagree on how events have and will unfold but if he goes I am of the same opinion. It is a bucket load of money. Callan Ward was pretty clear why he went.
-
Can someone explain to me how the money he will make in the long term is not much different ? That is a throw away comment with no substance. If the figures are to be believed he will make $600K a season for 5 years at Melbourne and $1M a season for 5 years at GWS. Thats $2M difference over the life of the contract. That takes him to 25 years old - lets put his career out to 33 - 8 years following. He has got to earn $250K per year more somewhere else for 8 years purely to break even with the first contract. Secondly GWS are heavily front loading the first contract, as would the MFC but GWS are front loading $1M per year as opposed to MFC $600K. Happy to discuss lots of other reasons for him to stay but anyway you look it - if it is a financial decision there are huge reasons for him to go. There is a big short and long term $ difference.

I think a Scully has no say in what compensation the club gets - its a formula. The Judd departure was always going to be a negotiation with another club if he wanted to go to the club of his choice. And you can dismiss the guff that Judd wanted the eagles properly compensated. Basically the club of Judd's choice had the option to give what the Eagles wanted or play poker with the Eagles where the Eagles had the Port Adelaide/Nick Stevens option of saying "Screw you - play ball or you can go to the first club in the PSD" ( Even The StKilda option on Luke Ball could have gone wrong had we picked him). Its easy to be magnanimous when you know your suitors are going to play ball. Edit - you have got to admire Collingwoods balls of steel - they missed Nick Stevens by playing hardball and not trading but got Luke Ball by playing hardball. Apparently StKilda knocked back Wellingham for Ball **(**unsubstantiated media reports)

Viva la Revolutione ! ( why am I picturing you as a cross between Che Gueverra and Carlos the Jackal..why am I picturing you at all....god i wish this was over..i am becoming unstable)

I have zero idea so I am apparently actively choosing to be an idiot.

To sum up 8 gazillion posts Is this whole issue a game everyone is playing or not.
-
And thats still not the main issue. For example - the President of the Western Bulldogs ( Footscray)lives in Far East Footscray - other wise known as Toorak - The President of Collingwood lives in Deep South Collingwood - otherwise known as Toorak - Buddy Franklin of Hawthorn lives in South East Hawthorn otherwise known as Brighton. Even if the GWS training centre was next door to Long Bay Jail does that mean you have to live in Malabar ? You get the picture.

And what make me froth at the mouth is this bit from Caro... While all parties continue to insist no deal has been done, Scully's Velocity Management boss Alastair Lynch came close to revealing on Fox Sports two nights ago that Scully would make his decision to join the new club in coming days after a tour of the club. You can watch Lynch as many times as you like - the only thing he came clsoe to revealing was that the decision would be made by the end of the week - and at no stage was a tour of the club mentioned. That was HS revelation yesterday the no one at GWS had any knowledge of. In no way shape or form did Lynch reveal that a decision has been made either way. Now - I again will not debate whether or not the deal is done, not done, signed, not signed, in concrete months ago, undecided as of yesterday. That is all opinion and we all have our own - fine. It just gives me the irrates that what Lynch said on AFL insider is in the public domain for all to see and Caro reports on it and makes up stuff that was just not said. Hack journalism to the extreme. Edit - I have no problem with article except for that - it is her opinion - I have written to her - I dont expect a reply.
-
Sorry to take you to task but how do you know the contract on offer is 5 years and it is $5M over 5 years - journo's are now talking $6M which again proves nobody knows. As the GWS CEO said yesterday if some of the figures bandied about GS would need a cap of $20M - his words. So again - you are calling correct the words of journo's not the words of the actual paticipants. The only given that all parties are agreeing is that an offer has been put to Scully.
-
I wont apologise for not knowing either way until it comes out that the statement and timetable made by Tom and his management were a sham.
-
Theres the rub - you could be right or wrong. Tom staying or leaving proves nothing either way. You may be 100% right that he has committed all the way along the line and MFC may talk him into staying this week. Heres the difference between us - I deal in what I do know - not in what I dont know. Where there is conflicting information I try to sort fact from heresay from fiction. Your theory is good but without any proof period. Toms statements are clear but you are right - he could be telling whoopers. It costs me nothing to believe in the persons statement who this is about. Until someone firsthand to the situation comes out and says - "this is how it went down" - Tom staying or going will prove no-ones theories right. So face value it is.
-
1/ All players agree that the love playing to the big crowds - every second week to 10000 people ? fun ! 2/ dont necessarily agree with you about premiership window 3/ facilities are good at the MFC 4/ lifestyle - well at least where you live - agreed ! 5/ money - agree
-
I have no idea when the offers came but everyone is telling the same lie as Tom - the offer didnt come from GWS until 4 weeks ago (ish) - and if it is lie then i am believing it as I havent seen anything to the contrary. Did he know the offer when there were officially given - I suspect he had some idea and I am not going to dissect every word said by every person but I think he has probably been thinking about it and is true to his word that he didnt want to make his decision until season end. If he goes it vindicates no one until someone presents facts of a different timetable that Tom has outlined. You do seem intent on a formal offer being given last year. One of my gigs is doing integration for a group of companies ( combining services) and one of my best strategies is putting offers on hold. "I can do this for your group at such and such - can i come and see you" - No - i am not looking at this now.....one month later i get the same freakin phone call but the verbal offer has increased. No - I am still not looking into this now. By the time I say I am now open to offers what is officially put on the table is vastly different to what the through away offer on the phone was - much better. And I I have no problem in saying I havent received an offer. My opinion is that longer Velocity refused to take an offer for Scully the better the contract would be. I have no trouble at all believing that an offer didnt come until late in the piece because thats my turf and what I deal with. I have no trouble at all believing that Tom didnt want to give the contract a thought until after the season.
-
The only problem with GWS will be playing to very small crowds and getting belted for a few years to come. The idea of living in the West of Sydney is a furphy.I would like to know where the football ground is in Brighton because I reckon 70% of footballers live there. Lots of the Lions live on fantastic properties on the gold coast. Just because you play in the West doesnt mean you will live there.
-
Can you give me the third choice if he leaves ? - I will say - Tom said he wanted to make his decision seasons end - with the absense of any facts to the contrary I have no reason to believe otherwise. If any proof comes out to the contrary that shows that a deal had been done last October, this April, June or July I will be the first to say - RR you were right and TS you are lying %#$#$%^%$^$& and Nutbean is a first class fool. I am still in the camp that beleives Ablett vacilated throughout last season and the decision was made after his spat with Bomber Thompson. Others will swear it was way earlier in the year.

Pooh-poohing what he calls a charade - and firing off shots at opinions to the opposite. Hey RR - is your theory of the last 6 months 1/ I strongly believe it to be fact ( hence opinion) 2/ Fact - end of story ( dont fail me now !)
-
Holmes was confident the AFL's 18th side, who will play in the league for the first time in 2012, had made a strong pitch to Scully. "I think he has to work through the process with Melbourne, obviously they've got some discussions going on. From our point of view, we're clear about what our offer was, that's for him to consider," he said. "Tom and Melbourne are obviously going through their discussions. Where that ends I don't know. "It's well documented we're interested in Tom. That's been on the table, it's up to Tom to decide what he wants to do." So here we have the CEO of GWS - again we either believe him (Holmes ergo Tom) or he too is in cahoots with a long list of "liars" (reading the entire article - even he is rubbishing the journo's - "We would need a salary cap of $20M")
-
Disagree - certainly a bit of [censored] for tat - aggression met with aggression but I have been sparring with RR for 6 months on this ( embarrassed to say) and disagreed with 98% of his opinion but havent been called an idiot yet ( the day is still young). I dont think he has passed anything off as fact
-
I'll back you on this one RR ( love the courage of your convictions) I am on the record as not agreeing with your opinion in any way shape or form. I am guilty of reading every one of the gazillion posts on this subject and lots from RR and there is nothing in what RR has said that is not possible or illogical and according to some scribes ( Ox) they would probably tell RR he is 100% on the money ( or in Ox's case 98% on the money). Again, I dont agree and as long as RR doesnt pass it off as fact ( which he hasnt) then its just a different opinion to mine. Postscript - RR got banned for calling Tom the "L" word - but if you take subtefuge into account all the way down the line as Ox has (and RR) then there is nothing in the RR scenario that you can state categorically is wrong ( in the absense of facts)
