I want to make comment on the overused use of the words by the party winning an election - "we have a clear mandate...." Makes me wanna puke every time I hear the current crop of polly's utter this nonsense. You have a clear mandate when the electorate gives the winning party an unimpeded path to pass legislation and that means winning both houses of parliament. What you have Mr Abbott is 48% of Australians who don't necessarily agree with you. What you don't have is control of both houses and what you certainly don't have is a clear mandate.

A bit harsh. There is some of your post that I agree with and some I think is way off base - he is not responsible in any way shape or form for Liam or any of the other indigenous boys troubles, output etc. Each person is responsible for their own actions and to say that nobody is more responsible for Jurrah is a nonsense. You can mentor someone all you like but the person is still responsible for their own actions. Davey was mentoring the younger indigenous players - he was not their 24/7 minders. - Aarons first seasons at the club were exciting ..actually they were exhilarating - We had a few players that took their contract negotiations to a knifes edge and held us somewhat to ransom and Aaron in his last contract was one of them. Having said that the MFC did cave in to his demands. - To say his last seasons were a disappointment is a major understatement. I am having troubles eradicating some of his later insipid efforts out of my memory.

read exactly what you said. Hood is not right in one aspect - there is no "Copping" it unless the moderator has failed in his role. There is a chance of shut down but they wouldnt allow player bashing. It was interesting that Aker hated the process and when they drilled down to why he started off saying that the group all circled and bashed him about his "outwardness" then after further questioning from the journo he said that it wasnt quite bashing but it was stated that he was flamboyant and perhaps put himself before the team and the rest of the group agreed.

We did have leading teams through our organisation and before we opened up to group critiquing rules were discussed with firm guidelines on how to critique. The moderator made it very clear that "bashing" was not allowed and would be shutdown. The idea was to learn to offer criticism that could be taken onboard and was not just viewed as an attack. The problem that did occur is a few who were not all that skilled ended up clamming up as they couldn't get a grasp of offer non offensive criticism. Also the major difference between our experience and the MFC is that it appears the whole playing group will be exposed to the process whereas we used it for our management. Then with us it had a trickle down effect to the balance of the staff. It was a very positive experience.

Obviously not from leading teams and by this comment has not been exposed to the process nor does he understand how the process works. (cop a blast - seriously !) Edit - just so you are aware - Good leaders are able to deliver honest criticism without it being perceived as "giving a blast". Before any of the group critiquing takes place - LT takes you through how to criticize without getting too personal, insulting or invasive. This works for some but not all. The moderator from LT then coaches as you are giving criticism and keeps comments within bounds so it is not a "sh*t canning" exercise. It is done respectfully so it does not demoralise. The idea of sitting in front of the group and copping a blast is fantasy.

But the leading teams guy is the moderator. You can't just openly get up and take pot shots without being asked to justify them. The LT moderator would expand on themes and ask if the rest of the group felt the same way as the person leveling the criticism. In our case, if it wasn't justified or was over the top it was brought back into line by the group. So after a few sessions we became measured and thoughtful in our criticisms. We got good results.

Not sure about the entire staff but I think you will find that Roos and the assistants and football manager is involved ( or should be)

Been through the leading teams process. Like anything - it requires buy in from all participants and it can be confronting. The main issue we had at work with this is that the people who were most accepting and really bought into the process were the people who needed it the least. Those who were resistant and "didn't need the leading teams bullsh*t" were the ones who needed it the most.

Absolutely. He is a real mixed bag...and luggage that I wouldn't want at our club.

I don't like what he did and he has done some thuggish acts on field - I wouldn't have any player at our club who punches out a teammate. There are many negatives about Brown but I wouldn't question his toughness or bravery - even though he has white line fever and does violent acts on the field to question his attack on the ball is incorrect - he is suicidal crazy in his attack on the footy.

Umm - No other reason except to hold fast to a story that doesn't get him sacked from his very high paying job ? I don't know why people are even discussing what he does/did on the field. That is immaterial. We have player who was in the leadership group ( but dumped) who was bought to GC not only for onfield playing abilities but for supposed leadership to a young group. Irrespective of how it happened - a player of his experience hitting a teammate is unacceptable.

I have been reading with interest the discussions around contested possessions. As opposed to the old days where Craig Bradley made a career of getting of his man and receiving, due to the more defensive nature of the game, the pure "receiver" really doesn't exist. There seems to be some confusion surrounding an in and under player and contested possession. All a contested possession is, is winning a ball in dispute. Many of these happen in a one on one contest away from the bulk of players. Robbie Flower was never what you would call an in and under player but his contested possession rate would have been good because he was constantly at a contest on the wings beating his opponent. So when we discuss Toumpas, he does need to lift his contested possessions. So far his main source of ball is peeling off and getting a receive. This is ok but as a sole source of ball does not cut it in today's football and especially against the good sides. If you become successful at this as your mainstay then you will quickly receive a tag. He needs to get to, and win contests against opponents . He will always be what I consider an outside footballer but he needs to get to more contests ( not necessarily congestion) and win some ball. Dangerfield is the perfect example of this. Wins one on ones against opponents but is not your diving into the bottom of 5 players packs to extract the ball.

I see the "poor disposal" as a secondary issue. To me he is a hard at it midfielder. The major problem is he doesn't get his hands on it often enough and as pointed out, when he does get the pill his disposal is iffy. Yes he has to use the ball better but first step is to get more involved. If this doesn't improve then he will be an end of year casualty.

To be accurate - I don't think many are bemoaning the delisting of Magner. There are a few ( who in my opinion rightly) are mystified as to why he wasn't given more of a go when his form at Casey and our complete lack of a midfield warranted senior selection.

Magner is not the only one to question the dysfunction of the coaching structure - I think our results are testament to the competency and the stalled development of so many also highlights the issue that messages were not being translated. As to inside/outside - these days there are no pure inside or outside footballers but certainly the productivity of a Toumpas will lift when we have some harder in and under types getting the ball out from the clearances. Toumpas was not recruited as a clearance specialist.

No problem with "outside footballers" - unfortunately the last two years we haven't had anyone inside to get the ball outside ! I look forward to his progress and note that he will either have to get more of his own ball or hope like hell that our recruitment this year of "in and unders" bears fruit.

Thankfully he has differentiated between "the club" being the players who he trained with, sweated with and went to battle with and "the club" being the coaching panel last year, who have now departed and didn't cover themselves in glory regarding communication. Those who have read Magner's parting shot - his main gripe was the missing clear lines of communications within the coaching structure - one coach telling him to keep on doing what he was doing so well and then being told by another almost the opposite.

I don't see it but trust that others in the football department do. I don't buy the argument he is the 4th rookie selected. Either a player has a reason to be on the list or he doesn't. I personally don't see it myself but obviously others do.

goes back to that same old argument - talent vs development. I have no idea whether a lot of the boys we have picked had any talent to start with. I do believe we have been very poor in developing as even our success stories have reached a good level but never any higher. Therefore I am going to give a clean slate approach to Nev and see what he can do in one year. I have not seen anything yet to give me great hopes except a fierce approach to the contest - maybe the development boys can teach him to find the ball more.

I am bemused when peoples around the world burn effigies. I am passionate about many things but burning an effigy? Closest I came was burning a Tom Scully effigy ( for what its worth I still think he'll stay)

and like every knee reco - some players make full recoveries and it doesnt hinder them and some dont . Knee reco players do have their knees managed but lots have no problems playing out their careers with little to no interruption . So your initial comment that his knee will play up until the end of his career is opinion not fact. edit - if you are saying he will have to manage his knee until the end of his career then that is a different statement.
