  1. If you made the blue yoke dark navy it would be a ripper!
  2. Why does everyone think Green will be in the midfield next year? Bailey has already said that he will spend more time in the forward line than he did this season. He's our best forward, case closed.
  3. Unfortunately, like most MFC supporters/members I am yet to witness a Melbourne premiership. Hopefully they can add a modern flag to the tally very soon so you no longer need to rely on the distant past for bragging rights. Beating Colling#$$@# in the process would do just fine, too.
  4. I think you might be right there, BP mentioned that the wouldn't have been around for much longer than 33. Gee, if he ends up half as good as Jurrah I'd be stoked! Watching the two of them sitting on the filths heads on the QB will be a pleasure!
  5. As I said before, 'I can't think of it being used in Non USA related sports'. If it was used in Soccer, cricket, Rugby etc around the world then it would be the same as lions, sharks, tigers. But it's not. Giants has been an American sports name until now. I don't think it fits as an AFL name. But that's just my opinion.
  6. San Francisco Giants (Baseball), New York Giants (American Football), and there was a melbourne basketball team named Giants...basketball being an american import....I can't think of it being used in Non USA related sports?
  7. It would be great to get them in, but who is Team 20? The AFL wont want a bye so if they are to include tassie they'll bring in someone else too. I'm not sold on the northen territory, even though its an AFL state. Remember watching the boys play there this year? They were exhausted by the end of it due to the humidity...so could basing a team there work?
  8. Couldn't agree with you more! Doesn't sound right at all.

They don't clash with anyone and is a little variation on NSW colours and a traditional AFL jumper....but having a crap name and a crap jumper just makes us look better so who cares I guess.
  10. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-to-unveil-gws-giants/story-e6frf9jf-1225954361689 Word is its GWS Giants. Hate them already. What an awful American-franchise-artificial-basketball sounding nick name. Jumper looks crap too. About as good an effort as this: http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bomberblitz.com/~rmered/images/Brisbane-1.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php%3Ft%3D673164&usg=__jCzI7_JvF_SaAA3TyNMd-INjlmU=&h=406&w=559&sz=12&hl=en&start=0&sig2=h8gudn28QpJ3x5BCKizwow&zoom=1&tbnid=huiYwRF3WYBX3M:&tbnh=134&tbnw=179&ei=Q__hTPzMCYuavAPC4qjmDw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbrisbane%2Bbears%2Bguernsey%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D552%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=134&vpy=87&dur=780&hovh=163&hovw=224&tx=87&ty=101&oei=Q__hTPzMCYuavAPC4qjmDw&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0 Hate them already. GO DEES!
  11. I read that Essendon is targeting mids this draft -Bombers target mids at AFL draft Hopefully means one of the quality talls does slip through to pick 12! The Lions (5) need mids (unless they want to pick up their next Brown) and GC is probably only going to use one of 7, 9, 10, 11 on a tall. Has anyone heard anything about what the Eagles (4) and Tiges (6) are after?
  12. From all of the media reports Bruce is most likely going to be on a single year contract with another club, along with a pay cut. This gets back to my original post. Boomer is happy to sign on, Bruce wasn't with us, but may with another club. Why? Is our FD not handling its dealings with our senior players as well as other clubs do theirs?
  13. 5-6 weeks isn't unheard of. Grimes was gone for much longer than that. Plus, when Junior did return he was fine. He most likely re-injured himself trying to come back a week too early. If he had broken down again after returning ala buckley then I would agree with you.
  14. Bruce was Vice Captain, he would have been mentoring a lot of the younger players and therefore assisting in their progress. He was still one of our best players, contributing to 21 of our 22 games this year. If being a good player but in the second half of your career means that you are affecting progress then by that logic we should de-list anyone over 25. Would you cut Boomer from north so you can get more games into the next draft pick? or keep boomer to win games and mentor these kids?
  15. Your taking the [censored] now. No, lindt isn't required, neither is a kiss on the cheek or slap on the bum, just some better communication between the FD and their most senior players. It's pretty clear that if the club had handled Juniors forced retirement better (perhaps by indicating that his time was coming to an end earlier in the season, instead of doing it at round 21) then Bruce would have stayed on.
  16. I agree with what your saying which is why I said the delistings were correct decisions, what I'm trying to get at is whether the club could have possibly handled them better. You get the impression that some of the players have been genuinely shocked at the news, I know for a fact McDonald was. Morale is a huge thing with a team. Do you truly think axeing your captain and then having your vice captain walk out on the club isn't going to rattle morale? To reiterate, I'm not against the de-listings, I'm querying the way they've been handled.
  17. Tapscott, Watts, Blease for me. Players that need to would be Bate, Wonna, Strauss, Jetta and Maric. Those five really need to show that they are pregressing to the next level...Some people might think that's harsh on Bate, but there is going to be alot of competition for the forward line if Watts, Green, Petterd, Jurrah and possibly a mature age recruit are all fit. Newton goes without saying...last chance. Roughy is McNamara. (if re-rookied)
  18. After the de-listing of two of our best players this year, I've been thinking about how some of our recent players must be feeling about the MFC. I remember when Jim Stynes became president and brought Schwab back to the club they spoke about how the club had lost touch with alot of its past players and there was not much sense of community at Melbourne. They made a real effort at bringing back past legends of the club (flower, barassi etc.) and trying to get them involved with the club. Melbourne under Bailey has made some tough calls of late (I believe correct calls) in axing players that for the better part of the 00's have been our better players. The way White, Yze, Robbo and now Bruce and Junior have left has been less than desirable, although necessary, I'm concerned that a lot of these players must be quite disillusioned with the club and their place within it. Do you think that the FD could have managed these situations better? It seems that Bruce left because he sensed that he would be blindsided in a similar way that way Junior was. I would hate to think that some of our other players could walk out in years to come due to what has happened over the past couple of years.
  19. Anthony is the only player that has achieved anything of note at AFL level. So if we were to go after someone IMO it should be him. Can also play down back unlike Thorp or Neagle. Also can people stop saying that Anthony is the same size as our other forwards such as Green. Brad is 184cm 83kgs and plays way above his size(brilliantly I might add), whilst Anthony is 192cm 92 kgs. A completely different player.
  20. The Dees have the cattle to replace Junior and Bruce (think Jordie Mac, Gysberts) and now there are 2 game day spots for the likes of Tapscott and Blease to fill. The only concern is on field leadership and experience. This is where Moloney, Davey, Jamar, Sylvia, Green and Rivers will step up and to a lesser extent Jones, Frawley, Dunn ect. As good as Junior and Bruce have been, they were hardly responsible for Melbourne's rise this year. This will be a good test of character for a lot of the boys, both senior and junior. 2011, get excited!!!
  21. If you looked at my join date you'd notice that I wasn't here a month ago. He is hardly a one dimensional player, he was originally recruited as a defender. He is only 22 so has plenty of time to develop his offensive pressure and would be quite handy as a pinch hitter or even an option down back if one of the towers in garland and frawley went down mid game. Much better prospect than Thorp.
  22. Great grab, but it was against Gold Coast. I wouldn't take away much from that. Miller managed to kick 10 against them.
  23. Just thought that I would throw this one out there to see what other posters thought of the prospect of drafting John Anthony now that he has walked out on the pies? At only 22 he is the right age for our young group and could be that developed big man that we desperately need in the forward 50, even just as a foil. Thoughts?
  24. I found this on another website. Not sure if it is legit.
