A Day at the Races
I like it too. Great first up record (7: 4 - 2), something i always put great stock in. Likes it soft (9: 4 - 4) and Weir really is a brilliant trainer. Above all a good racehorse I worry that it might get too far back as i expect the race to favour those on speed and near the rail (i suspect Monstar and perst will vie for the lea, with Perast winning that mini battle)

A Day at the Races
Perast will find the lead and prove mighty hard to run down. But i think will be. Just. I know that i am supposed to wait until you all make your selections, but i'm in a bit of a bind. I have to drive to Ballarat today (to sit in cold bball stadiums - my son has a tournament there this weekend). I've done my form and made my selctions I'll wait for a while and just before i go check if the selections are up. If not i'll put up my analysis and tips for the race (1-4) and if for instance the winner or a place getters matches other's selections just take the horses not covered (assuming there is one)? I'm leaving just before 12.

Channel 7 WANT MORE GOALS!
Of course they do. According to SWYL. Though to be fair he might be living in a time warp.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 12
Petty? Well for him the waiting (for a senior berth) won't be the hardest part. He is tough player, so i suspect he won't back down. Not sure how much intercept work he has done and if he is learning to fly and breakdown opposition attacks. If selected i reckon i'd tell him you got lucky and i would also let him know that if he makes errors he should prepare for pies fans (and some nuffy dees fans) to yell yer so bad. Unfortunately i can't make the game so i won't be a face in the crowd but i look forward to him and Omac being walls in defence and clearing the ball into the great wide open wings of the 'G.

Careful - you might open a doorway to demonland's dark web - the general discussion board - and let the RWNJs in.

100% correct. It seems to be that it is only this season that this fact is being understood by the footy media and some footy fans.

James Harmes is our Special Guest on the Demonland Podcast (6/6)
On the theme touched on in the clarry thread i would be keen to know if teammates are consciously adopting his handball techniques or it is more though osmosis (harmes seem to trying the overhead in the air handball quite often - along with Dustin Martin's straight arm fend off)

Oliver's Weapons of Mass Distribution
I was thinking a similar thing on Saturday at the game. But i was thinking that some players are also doing the Oliver special - those super quick punch like handballs from above the head whilst still in the air. Spartacus did one, as did ANB (i think) and Harmes is doing them regularly Getting the ball out of packs quickly and clearing congestion is critical in today's football. And probably has been right through his junior days. Oliver has developed an adaptive response to the need to clear congestion. teammates will use his techniques, other AFL players will start using them and i have no doubt they are already being used in junior footy to some extent. How many players influence how the game is played? not many - perhaps one or two a generation? The other thing he does few others do is his back pedal to create space. Most players always go sideways or forwards to get clear - Clarry goes forward, thorough packs, sideways and back. His back movement often gives him both space and time and makes his next disposal really dangerous.

Tom McDonald Re-Signs for 4 Years
By far the most important part of this is increases the likelihood Omac will extend his contract!

Filling the hole left by Jake Lever’s injury
Agree Frost is not up to playing the key intercept role. Straight line player with poor foot skills. It is telling they have put Slaem back and have Fritter playing quite deep defensively now. Add Lewis and reliable kicks in OMac and Jetta and and attacking penetrating kick in Hibberd and you have a good mix. You just can't afford poor kicks in your back half these days and it is no surprise Frost and Hunt are in the twos. Whilst i can see the logic in not simply bringing in another tall and having Hibberd play the intercept role I think they will want to keep the structure they have now. Hibberd is such an attacking weapon you lose a lot having him deep for most of the game and not able to push hard forward and kick long into our 50. And i think OMac has to stay in the key defender role - the role he has trained for all summer. I think they will bring in one of Smith or Keilty. Pederson is the other option, but i can't see it to be honest. I would not be unhappy for them to go with Dec but if i had to guess i's say they will go with Smith. He has played senior footy, pretty much in the intercept role. As a basketballer would intuitively understand the concept of zoning, running of your man and guarding an area (yes i know the space is different but the concept is similar - and some footy players never quite get it, having had no experience of it. Lynden Dunn comes to mind). On the other hand as Drnkn167 points out at 191 cms he's not tall, something Dec has in his favour 91994 com - Lever is 195cms). But i wonder if his vertical leap and athleticism mitigates against that lack of height a bit.

Filling the hole left by Jake Lever’s injury
#Oscar myths 32. Myrh: Omac is not confident with ball in hand. Fact: Dr cool barely wastes a kick and rarely misses targets.

Give us some credit! (Media reaction merged thread)
Reminds me of a joke i heard once from an Asian American about the difficulty of dealing with the stereotype that people from Chinese backgrounds are incredibly hard working, industrious, disciplined and excel academically, particularly at maths and science

A Day at the Races
Great field in the Stradbrolke. One of my favourite races and my mate and make an off seaspn exception for this race most years. Post dees match i backed material Man and took Max Almighty for a place in the preceding race at Belmont (i love vibe bet and Maxy had just played another pearler). I think changing trifecta strategies to suit the race is smart and boxing 5 not a bad idea as a rule. With trifectas i often like standing out a winner one out (often, but not always, the fav) and having two or three (or more) to come second and third. If the winner is not super short can sometimes be vale (and even if short can get value if a longshot fills a place)

Williamstown v Casey Demons - Round 9
Dear agony aunt, Have gone to as many games as possible this season - couldn't get to the blues or ess games. Lots going on with renovations and other stuff (kids sports mainly). Would love to go to both the AFL and VFL games this weekend, but if i chose to go to both my next choice would be chemical or surgical - castration. I live in Altona so would love to see Casey play Willy. I love watching foot there. And marvel stadium leaves me cold. But its joneys's 250th. What to do? Please help agony aunt. (PS it is sign of how well we are going that i would even consider going to a casey game instead of the dees)
