    Its not you, its them.

Tyson is solid as a rock and a huge part of our midfield engine.

At last. I also thought it was me.  I watched Tyson do an individual skills/ball handling warm up at the G last week and just reflected that he seems to get the ball a lot in traffic and links well getting the ball out. That's his strong suit.  Granted the team needs outsiders  and that's not his forte but gee, he's not Robinson Crusoe either in clangers.

  2. JV7started a post "Embrace it" yesterday and as a consequence I have also brought forward my post planned for next week. If we lose it might be too late then and the mood may not be conduicive..

I wish to express gratitude to the following for this season, in no particular order...

    Peter Jackson - enough said

Paul Roos - for bringing an on-field foundation and respect

Mr and Mrs Todd Viney - need I mention him Viney jnr.? Enough said

Nathan Jones - This is for you Nate

The Player welfare group - for looking after Jesse, Jeffy and no doubt many others for us in their times of need

Daisy Pearce - leadership and professionalism

    The Board (and Glenn Bartlett)

Simon Goodwin - coach of the year contender and all class.

Max Gawn - for continuing the No.11 Guernsey with respect and humour.

    Robbo- for Hogan's Heroes

Tom McDonald - Domain Stadium heroics

Jack Watts - QB 17 heroics

Jordan Lewis - making us a destination and THAT Carlton match mark at 30 seconds to go.

Angus Brayshaw - for listening to your mum.

    Oscar McDonald - for perseverance

Michael Hibberd - Nothing needs saying here.

    Apologies to many others.

I shall sit back and enjoy this weeks game now.

Interesting suggestions 55. We need 6 wins for the flag and this is the easiest game on paper, so I can see some merit in resting Viney and Petracca. On the other hand, they are both clearly in our best side and we must win (and percentage might count).

At their best, I see Salem, Watts, Hogan and Frost all in our best side. But I also agree with you that the balance of our side hasn't worked with Gawn, TMac, OMac, Frost, Hogan, Pedersen and Watts all playing. It will be interesting how Goodwin manages things, because Pedersen, TMac and OMac are actually playing the best footy of our talls at the moment. We will have an even bigger dilemma if Weideman can kick a bag this weekend.

For the record though, I would be going with no change this weekend, unless Viney can't get up.

IF we can get through with full available squad to past Collingwood, then use the 2 week rest to revitalise Viney and Petracca.

The latter just has to suck it up until the pre-final break.  Viney out if there is any danger he could miss first final.

    True.

This is just karma to the saints for when Nick reiwoldt tricked ( I think)  a freo player a few weeks ago at Domain Stadium by calling for the ball when it wasn't his free kick.  Saints awarded a 50m, and goal.  Everyone on the saints team thought it hilarious.

Just like I do with this one.

Perfectly timed momentum bursting loss for the Dons. I'd expect them to have another loss to ... Oh [censored]. They play the two worst teams in the AFL right now.

No matter. demons and west coast now control the final 2 spots but their draw is a killer. If they make it they will deserve to.

Richmond beaten in first week to Adelaide in Adelaide, then knocked out by Demons in 1st semi final.

    Demons into prelim against ?????

Don't know what to expect hoping for a win but ever since the north loss I just can't take this club seriously, so we will see how it pans out at 4pm

There is a great interview with Jack Viney in todays Sunday Age.  he refers to the blustery conditions in Hobart, and the unbelievable wind at Canberra last week. I went to that game and it was downright unplayable at times.

The point Jack made was they didn't adjust and handle the conditions.  Having seen them beat Adelaide and West Coast Away , this team has the ability for sure and back on the 'G' today on good conditions I reckon leadership of Nathan Jones and Jack Viney (and Lewis) will get them there and be the defining factor.

The stats of the last 4 weeks, when not playing under the roof and in sub-artic conditions render the stats for this period meaningless. The swans game doesn't look so bad either in hindsight.

    A win by 24.

    Disagree

    • GWS have Mummy and Toby Green out. Coniglio played really well in his first game back but so do alot of our blokes then they dropped right off 2nd up. GWS form line is ordinary
    • St Kilda wont worry us again, they went in red hot favourites last time and we have improved much than them since. They're tired and planning for next year. Tiim for them to start the players with little niggles out for surgery so they can do a full pre-season - This will be the game we boost our percentage.
    • BL are playing for bottom spot. All heat has been on North, Bris can just slip under the radar
    • Pies don't have the game plan to beat us. They're not fit enough and their midfield only runs one way.

    We will win all 4.

I like your thinking, but just  think GWS loss but by a small margin. Protects what % we have , then win the next 3 all at the 'G'.

    .

Have us finishing 8th on percentage with 12 wins. Losing the next two, winning the last two.

We could win all 4...  or we could lose all 4.   Who bloody knows.

Close. I have done numerous iterations, all with us losing to GWS but hopefully by not much, but see the last 3 as winnable to finish 6th.  I have too much faith in Goodwin not to use last Saturday to galvanise the thinking. The talent is there and having seen them beat the Crows standing in the outer at Adelaide, I am a believer. Not to mention I saw all 3 wins at Etihad.

Still one of the youngest teams that has weathered the most player challenges of all this season and yet are still in firm contention.

By the Saints game Nathan Jones will have had a game, Viney will be less sore and the full engine room should be up and about. Probably will have the best 22 by rd. 222/23 except for Jesse Hogan.

If they win against GWS then ignore the above and cancel September holidays.

I'm heading up with a few mates. Didn't realise you could book tickets through the club, so just got them on ticketmaster. GA in the Hill was cheapest so went for those. Prefer standing so hopefully the hill is standing. Should be a ripper!

We're flying up and back same day (with return flight to Melb. via Sydney first!),  but booked GA on the Hill to at least save some money rather than seats never having been to the ground before, thinking we might be the only demon members there standing.  At least there might be some company for us.  Not sure what vocal support GWS get there?

  10. Got here just as jetta being assessed. Hard to tell but he walked back without assistace.

Watts worked with defensive group on hanball and short kick drills. Brayshaw looked solid. Garland ran laps solidly

Nathan jones ran beautifully all session and looked really sharp on close in drills. Didnt kick, but then noone else was except jesse. All handballing by everyone.

Viney not out there. Bugg fully involved. I may have missed him but couldn't find max out there.

Really windy but skills still looked good. Oscar and tom played on each other for goals kiciin/defending drills.

It looked like they were having fun, music playing etc. Just a really good vibe if you like. Goodwin very public in control over all.

Tigers winning has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons a little bit, and I feel Richmond can count itself as a genuine threat (although if Dusty gets injured they're stuffed). I'd still love to play them in the first week of finals, the atmosphere would be enormous.

Yes but opens up now a real top 4 chance for mfc. Bring on canberra.  Thanks tiges.

Such a mature mature performance for such a inexperienced side (games wise) - leadership was shown by each and all. And... I think I may start to give Melksham the benefit - clutch.

Not having seen any of the game, can somone advise the style that seemed to put the scoring in lock down for quite a few minutes ?. What went on there?.

I'm not counting us out of this weekend's game against the Crows.  Their midfield isn't elite, and if we curb the influence of Sloane then it brings them on par with us.  The Crows have a soft underbelly and if we can limit the amount of easy ball guys like Jenkins and Betts like to get then it goes a long way to us winning.

I went to Adelaide this year and have seen 3 wins (and nearly a 4th ) at Etihad. Plus last year against Port. All seemed impossible untilrecently.

Anything is possible with this group and coach

You must be joking.  The club has done 2 things right - again..

    1.  Got it off the back page in 24 hours - you won't read about it after a small article tomorrow reporting the apology -  PR Rule No.1 .

Any other action would give the story legs.

    2. Then  - they wheeled out the best team member to handle todays' presser - Jordan Lewis, who put it all in context, and again hammered the " culture" issue as laughable in a contemptible manner. And why was he the best you asked? - because no-one doubts a 4 time premiership player on what successful culture looks like.

Great media management today, we won the 4 points and Clarry will live to fight another day in Darwin and get 3 Brownlow votes next week,

and conversely to what the Blues banner said about us........

They can book THEIR September trip to Noosa instead of me. I'll have commitments at the ' G ' .

    I was wrong.

The Age this morning has NOTHING on the issue.  Move on everyone. Clarry quite rightly apologised in a 'non- apolgy ' manner .

"I didn't threaten him, did I?"  he said looking sideways to his advisor.

Brilliant repartee. Good on him. Another 30 possies this week coming up.

Well managed by MFC media department.

  15. Missed the first 1/2 of seven news tonight so presumably Clarry was a lead story...BUT

The main AFL news at the back had serious time on the club, and importantly, this lead angle was about this is a tough month that will decide are we Top 4.,  from Mark Stevens.

Not  - will we make the 8 ?  Why is this important.?

Just thought this was interesting , but more fodder for self belief on what's possible and the image of a club going somewhere.

The payoff is the reinforcement of the concept now the Demons are a " destination " club..

leaning towards no change or Just Tyson in if he's ready. Flights to and from Darwin cant be good for Watts Hamstring. Persevere with Kent to get back up to AFL pace of game. no idea who would come out for Tyson - maybe Stretcher but another inside mid would be good for his game to stay as a pure outside mid

Agree. I've done the Darwin flight a few times.  Its just too long and hard work and I'm only 178cm..  Then there's the flight home.

Save Jack for the run home and finals.  I'd even consider resting Max in the VFL for the week for the same reason.

  18. Just watched Goodwin's press conference where he was asked about the culture issue.

The next 2 1/2 minutes are worth bottling and a must view. It was as if he just wanted the question and his opportunity to then theorise about what makes a good cultutre and what he and the club are doing about it.

Coach of the year material and we're lucky to have him.

Its as if he was sending the players the message, but just via the presser. And how in tune the leadership group is with him.

    Well done Simon.
