Clarry "one of the best to emerge in last 20 years"
DEE fence replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Please don't give them ideas. -
@Skuit Am with you on the contested high scoring stuff, what staggers me, and my question to you, are the fantasy ratings, either version. What stats aren't being weighted properly for impact on a game, in your humble opinion? With the modern style of footy I am going to say kicks and handballs don't mean much anymore. 5 disposals that defeat the defensive set up of an opposition are worth 20+ disposals to a contest. And our presence in AFL fantasy - 7 players in the top 100, 3 (including smith, easy to get stats in sides winning by 15+goals) in the top 50 and Hogan at 52??? beggars belief, I can't be bothered with fantasy teams anymore because I think the metrics are BS, but I like the idea of selecting a side that would have the most impact and the whole money ball thing. Bailey F for instance has impact (IMHO) with his efforts for almost no visible presence statistically. If you could break down the players that are contributing to the below, I think that would be a fair reflection for fantasy teams. Also I think the fantasy stuff glorifies individuals, when our team is crushing others by doing the team things, so maybe am being unrealistic to ask for the stats to reflect team acts/roles - i.e. BV did a number on Lynch. Lastly this is Goodwin's coaching genius 1st Goal Assists - this is the best demonstration of a team attitude and the hardest thing for an opposition to guard against. I predict looking at the fixture another 5 (minimum) 10 goal wins this year. (might have to look up the stat for most 10 goal wins in a season - we could get there....
-
I think if we have a better than 10 goal win we should allow for some extra votes because it is for sure a team winning in style. BTW 7 points Goodwin. that said: Hogan-it was 28 degrees people, and he ran like an Ethiopian and kicked straight and a few score assists. Angus-how damaging is a player that can use both feet. Hibberd-(Lever as am alternate) early on this pair ruined every crow attack Clarry-(Gawn could just as easily sit here) Contest King Viney-the crows were scared of him. Jones-taken for granted, he is still a beast. finally... Jetta ANB Melksham are ripped off. Think i am going to google some SA newspapers and maybe the SA forum.

Hey did anyone else notice how happy Pedders was for the team? greeting and cheering every player coming off, no sulking at all just genuine joy for the team, awesome bloke and great team first attitude - something that has the lid off and in orbit for me, this team first stuff will really make us a threat, Geelong comparisons starting to feel right. (sadly hunt seemed flat by comparison)

Likely media comments: * flat track bullies * adelaide had a hard game the previous week And the one I would have to agree with...cheeky smile.... they haven't played any real sides yet

Is Daisy the best special comments person?

Loved her interview with Jetta at the end, she is ace, equal best with Nick and Paul, love how she is far more interested in the footballer and the footballer that all the BT type spankers who keep making it about them. ... guess my forum handle kind of demonstrates bias... -
can we just agree 6pts each for everyone in POTY
-
totally agree, even Gawn, his best game was when he got a bit of attention. We are the bear, no one smart pokes the bear. Why i wasn't yoo worried about the camp fiasco, we are the contested ball side. Definitely Goodwin's fingerprints

ruin my week why don't you....that post game buzz is gone....

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 10
DEE fence replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hardest game coming up is Collingwood, 1CW will have their eye on this and i think we'll arrive having won 6 on the trot. Spargo for Jeff i reckon he's had enough of Casey and will provide some defensive pressure in what could be his last chance for another 4 weeks. TMAC and a foot?..........faaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrkmedead -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - AUSTIN BRADTKE
DEE fence replied to Demons11's topic in Melbourne Demons
Invest in teaching him the ball drop, from his height it will have ice on it by the time the ball reaches his boot. He will be a baby giraffe for a while, I hope some of the negative Nellies can be calm while he develops. Rucks will br at a premium for clubs, because of what Gawn is doing for ruck work, It is like what Warne did for leg spin. So I am very happy with this recruit. -
How to get him to Hawthorn?

Re the players leaving, Malthouse was so bad for Carlton, I still think Eddie was paying a retainer, you could make an argument that Malthouse has been worse for Carlton than Neeld was for us.

The new Riewoldt is what Roos said, that is high praise. About, Speed and Jesse, there is a NFL player who hits 34.5kmh/h and is a 109kg so Jesse's speed seems pretty feasible, and not a mistake with the GPS, (it is all about how it is built), they can be made accurate to under 30cm from what i understand in a civilian context. They use chips as well (an accelerometer and magnetometer), and not just a GPS, which are way more accurate for judging the speed and direction. So it wouldn't/doesn't matter if he was doing circles, although I do prefer a straight up lead... Between him and Tom, I want teams crushed. (Loved the way Robbo asked Lewis if we had been told to kill teams.)

Shaun Smith's Concussion Issues on Open Mike
DEE fence replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Anyone know who laid the elbow into his neck that he talks about happening in Canberra? Hard not to feel sad for this bloke? And I hope his medical bills are well covered. -
Good call re credit to Goodwin, I'll put my hand up and say i thought he was playing favorites, so he definitely gets the kudos for how Jake is going now. Well done coach!

Luck, and i am a basket case because of it, only thing i get superstious about...

I thought the same, but my brother (who is a much better footy player) said Hannan is in for defensive pressure. For me it's his disposal but not his effort, much like Tyson, Hunt, ANB (who had a day out).

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
DEE fence replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
Many thanks, yes it was awesome. Not even myki or food prices could kill the buzz. Loved the pregame, they were up from the warm up (staggered me they played a mini game warm up) bouncing around 5 times the energy of Carlton. Best bit without doubt though was standing next to the interchange in the last qtr, watching the players swapping in sets of 3, looking like hockey players going out to smash someone, they looked fierce amd lethal. Loved that our full strength side looks so dangerous. -
Demonland Player of the Year 2018 - Round 9

6,TMac 5,Lever 4,Milkshake 3,Brayshaw 2,Lewis 1,Gawn -
Yes the free was there, not arguing that, but jeez that was a brave dip by the Carlton fella, my comment was in the spirit of 'the castle' it is the vibe of the thing... if it had been close i'd be whistling a different tune.

1st Win I have seen live since 2006 (I am officially not a jinx and can contemplate a return trip to Australia just before the racing carnival. Am trying to remember the last 100 point win. Tom McDonald, several goal assists to go with 4, BOG for mine. that running back with the flight of the ball and putting his right hand out to juggle and gather the ball was the prettiest piece of footy all day. Saw Melksham at Jerry's milkbar this morning in Elwood, with his wife and kid, so left him alone, have always thought they made a good breakfast, worked for him. Oliver need a TV to see his work, I understand why the umps have no clue whether he throws, impossible to see sometimes he is so quick, his hands are up there with Muhammad Ali for speed. Lever close to BOG, best game I think I've seen him play, getting better every week. Smith got better and better. Lewis is putting together his best set of games for Melbourne at the moment (sad to say, but I think he's playing like he might finish this year, he is really putting it all out there) Vince needs a spell, couple of times when I thought he could chase and didn't, and he is under the microscope every time by the umps. Hannan - I guess his defensive pressure is what justifies his place, he's not in for disposal efficiency. Gawn, did some great things. We had the crowd I thought, for a Carlton home game, was seeing far more red. Loved the team game, they are always looking for the goal assist. We were lucky with umps, got the rub of the green. I would have felt stiff as a blues fan, especially the free for holding the man when the Carlton player ran back with the flight of the ball (mark of the year that wasnt) super brave. Speaking of which , the umps seem to make it quite tough to call a mark a mark.

So the best in my time - period late 70's to Now, (some of the older stuff definitely bears my fathers' influence from when I was a little tacker) I have linked all the names, MFC has always had the best rucks, Sean O'Dwyer unlucky to miss, and was very torn by Jurrah but he didn't do enough for long enough. Gerard H i couldn't really remember playing, and I tried to pick players who had done it at their besy while at MFC. I have to say FB was the hardest, Jamie Shanahan was a contender, and was tempted to move Wight or Neitz to FB to make room for some of the excellent back pockets we have had. Vince got in for his first season. It gives me hope that I could see another 6 of our current players making it onto my 'best in my time team'.

Now I hope this becomes true, but I reckon Ben has got ahead of himself... "Gawn inherited the No.37 jumper from Stynes, who presented him with his jumper after being drafted, and switched to the No.11 at the end of the 2014 season in honour of his mentor. The pair would have to be regarded as two of Melbourne's greatest ever ruckmen. - Ben Guthrie" Donald Cordner is ahead of Max for the moment, in my strong opinion.

2 Robbie was the soul of the club. As great as he was and is and loved and adored, RDB left, Flower did not. 11 Stynes a close 3rd.
