It's quite a bit taller than West Coast's:

    Tmac (194cm), LJ (199cm) and BBB (200cm)

    vs

    Kennedy (194cm), Darling (191cm) and Allen (194cm)

What makes me smile is if you put this lot in a time trial, we would win by the length of Flemington straight, I can't remember any team that has had such aerobically fit talls. Tmac would probably be the only one that would hold his own on the bench press.  F50 Defensive pressure I reckon we win (just).

The marking and goal-kicking I'll enjoy.  I'll even be ok if he flops around a bit and milks some free-kicks, BUT I'll never be fine with that silly long run up, even if he does kick accurately.  So unnecessary.

He can run from the sight screen like D.K.L. if he kicks it as far as I'm concerned....

BBB&B, Big Benny Brown & Bowey

Have a sneaky feeling after reading Casey reports. Bedford has also earned a go according to reports.

Melksham out is also a clear indication that Goodwin relies on Denonland.

But seriously another tick for Goodwin, not playing favourites as some have accused. Can seperate being a mate from being a coach.

This from Neil Crompton  “(And there was an example on Saturday where he deliberately pulled out of a contest - which certainly was not a good look).”

I can forgive pretty much anything on a footy field except shirking a contest. He is a multiple offender. Granted,  the bloke has done well this year (in a winning team)  and yes, the goal on Saturday night was brilliant but watching a team mate put self preservation before the team deflates the spirit like a pin pricking a balloon.  These thinogs also are not missed by opposition coaches and players. That cannot be tolerated in a team looking to win a premiership. Yeah, I’m harsh and will be berated but do you want a premiership team or not? Maybe Choco needs a one on one with him.

By the by, Brown and Riewoldt have both mentioned there were moments they had paused and said it's a furphy to suggest no player ever does.

I went and reviewed his 2020 and 2021 highlights, he is not a squib. I actually think you should apologise.

He will be part of our premiership team.

ANB's second quarter goal was sensational - and I would have laid money he couldn't kick it. He also ran his butt off all day, as per usual, and did a couple of other nice things against Richmond. However -and perhaps I shouldn't say this (it is an appreciation thread after all) - but I do not rate ANB as a player anywhere near as highly as most of the posters on here do. Before I get lynched, let me state my reasoning:

    - for someone who gets to the ball as much as he does (and he certainly does), the number of possessions he ends up with I believe is poor. He fumbles, he loses his feet, and he is bumped off the ball far too often, and easily, for someone who wants to retain his place in the side.

    - when he does get the ball, his disposal - particularly by hand - is usually poor, and often results in turnovers. His disposal by foot has improved over the years, but by god it needed to.

    - he rarely attempts overhead marks when the opposition is around, even if he is the only Melbourne player there. (And there was an example on Saturday where he deliberately pulled out of a contest - which certainly was not a good look).

    - he averages about 4 tackles a game over his career, which on the surface looks great, I just wonder how many of these result from his (good) second efforts following another of his fumbles or falling over occurrences, when the opposition was able to get the ball from him.

    - the fact that he is now in his 7th year in the system he should, by now,  have been able to resolve his above listed shortcomings as a player if he was ever going to - therefore I see little upside to his current playing ceiling.

As such, while I am not promoting for him to be dropped after Saturday's game, I just feel that a player like Kade Chandler would provide us with more bang for the buck than ANB does.

There, I've said my piece - you can hang me now.

Not going to hang you, but I do feel you are watching looking for flaws, he has clearly improved his disposal efficiency, he deserves credit for that, his tackles seems harder and his running is incredible and makes him disruptive to the oppositions game plan. He is never going to be Salem, but I challenge you to look again and give credit for improvement. Had a handball to Salem that resulted in a goal IIRC.

Just watched the Kossie vs Mansell thing again. I reckon it's great that Kossie has the mongrel to take it the Richmond guys. Also in that melee, Jackson at 19 years old wasn't scared to throw his weight around, and Rivers was in there too letting the Tiges players know what was what. The whole incident amounted to a statement by our club: just try to push us around. Find out how that goes.

It won't be too long before oppo players think twice about getting in Kossie's face. He's not as big as uncle Byron but he's inherited some **** from him.

Word for Word, we haven't been bruise free since before Roos, but it is not our only trick now, btw, I swear Viney scares the C^@p out of the opposition. Everyone talks about the Tigers now putting our names up on the wall, I feel like ever since Stack laid out Viney he had been looking forward to hunting some Tigers, he put a huge amount of hurt on them on Saturday, and personally I think he would to do it again in a final.

Viney, Kossie, Jones, May, Weid, Rivers, ANB, Jordan, Jackson, Trac, Oliver, Nev, AVB, and Salem - can lay a hard tackle as well. Others may have had there moments and not wanting to forget anyone, but just speaking to these guys that I can say hit hard.

Personally Port and WCE are the one's I most want to see us put some physical pressure on next. (Port for the dog acts on Gawn and WCE because of the prelim.)

  7. First Crack - King I knew was going to be slow to get back on board because, we burnt him in 2018, but he did with some grace yesterday. Leigh Montagna is very enjoyable, Tom is a tool of the 1st order and i wish he wasn't a Dees supporter (He started the crap about Kozzie). On the Couch are on board. Watching Purple talk us up make's me LOL, he is such a hater, but all in all who cares...  It is a bit like taking Olisk or Pickett Fence seriously, they will all throw mud when we drop one...

This. There was a play where they were closing in on us and Jackson handballed to max then came back to Jackson then out of danger. Remarkably good by two ruckmen.

Thought Jackson was stiff when Tmac played on, was definitely a Mark, and a very brave one as well, running back with the flight and got properly cleaned up, didn't get the stat to go with it. Tmac did the team thing btw, just felt Jackson deserved more pats on the bum.

I know everyone has says this, but we've had nobody like him since the early Aaron Davey.

In terms of excitement for sure. And while my beloved Aaron Davey could lay a tackle and invented forward pressure Kozzie is much more menacing with his tackles. Davey was much cleaner by foot something I hope will come with Kozzie. Kozzie reminds me of a human missile, when he starts running I laugh like I'm riding a S1000RR, it's crazy fast.

Just wanted to say I'm now  down zip 5 betting against us. Thanks Dees for continuing to take my money.  Willing to put up a large sum for a victory next week.

If I see Titus tip the Dees against Richmond I will break both his kneecaps with a ball hammer

  11. I could in all seriousness see BBB and Tmac being alternated because of management of previous knee/foot injuries (both seem to have an overuse factor), especially if we are going well. Not yet, and strictly for medical reasons, would nice to get to the end of the season in good shape.

  12. No, the pain is too much, but then so is the love, Personally I am stressed about the season North had winning 11, then falling off a cliff, I can see the Dees doing that... I remember some years when we fell into finals after flying during the season. They make a strong brew of bathwater down at the 'G.

  13. I really don't understand dropping Ceglar and leaving big boy to face that's ruck craft one out with Jackson to switch. Clarko must have a plan, he's had alot of respect for that's ruck craft for years...

All good P-man, love all the different takes on here. Could have given 6 to a few blokes, but from my vantage point Viney seemed in everything and the clincher was when he ran straight from the interchange and flew Superman style to spoil the ball in the last quarter.

Was expecting this or Lever to get Golden Fist on Bounce. Viney in motion was a thing of beauty, Lord of the Rings 'You shall not pass'

Reckless is the most charitable label one could use.

.... and today without our two preferred KPP forwards (and our KPP defender most of the day, thanks Tom).

Interesting combination of words.  I guess Michael Christian might be influenced by your words.

It was best way to sum it up I thought, put the mitt out there but maintain deniability.

The thing with Hawkins is that he has a history of a short fuse. It’s more likely it was accidental, but with him you can never be sure.

Watching it I felt like there was a slight delay in the movement of the arm, that made me think he was deliberately reckless. And he has form, he wanted to put the hurt on, and did too much, has happened too many times now with him.

  17. I am so happy with our 2021 game plan, our game plan has clearly adjusted, instead of just winning the contested game, (2018 was not sustainable - as I said at the time) smashing ourselves into pieces in the process, (as seen by injuries at the end of that season), our defence is now strong enough to allow us to take on some higher risk footy. We haven’t gone soft, we are still fierce but the mix between inside and outside footy is soooooo much better. If 2021 keeps up and we play finals, we should be getting tattoos of the recruiters’ names. I’d ask fellow supporters to see that getting the players into a head space where they are willing to play with creative flare in attack, with some risk of a turnover, requires a lot of trust and faith in the players. Well done to the coaches for not dropping their bundles. It is so much easier to play a more conservative game, playing not to lose rather than playing to win, but I really like playing to win, and the clangers that are there I can live with, because our defence is a thing of beauty. No other team has looked as fit as us, and just by the by, GWS injuries came in play running with us, we were fitter than they were.

Now to be clear, the lid is not off for me, we still have to play Port, Doggies, Sydney and Richmond, win two of those four and the lid is off, win three and it is in orbit, and I am booking a ticket to Australia and stuff the quarantine. I am going on record as saying when BB is back, well then #BOOMSHAKALAKA is coming, we are going to get off the leash, and we will kick the highest score of the season. I feel like watching the Dees at the moment is the same as being at the surf beach, there are a lot of sloppy waves threatening but not quite delivering, but you just know that a really big wave is about to roll through and clean everything out and everyone up.

And yes before you say it, I know there is WCE in Perth, but personally I think Gawn will do enough to quell Nicnat, and don’t rate them as an ‘win anywhere’ side.

     Some other comments on players:

Tomlinson - Today was his best game, last week was good this was better, I thought last week it was easy for him to look good when May and Lever were on fire, today everyone was under real pressure and he was consistent and calm and where he needed to be. I had him as a bust, eating my words.

Nev - I saw Greene beat him on one occasion and yes he looked slow, but then in general play he put his body on the line in the middle of three GWS players and prevented a GWS rebound where they would have been away for a sure goal. I am not putting a line through him yet.

Tmac – A bad game for him compared to the last two (my mate was spewing he had an 8 leg multi and the only thing he missed on was Tmac for a goal), but no way would I drop him on one bad game, with two goods ones in the bank. People way too quick to pull the trigger on him, he is obviously moving so much better, he is not the player from last year. He brings more than Mitch.

ANB – Best season so far, twice he tapped the ball on rather than take possession when he would have had no chance. Showing improved awareness with his frankly mind boggling running. Also noticed he is trusted more and linked play several times.

Hunt – timing has improved, back to pre-concussion game standards, He is not Bachar yet, but working into a much better standard. Really happy for him, I thought he was

Langdon – yes everyone is super happy for a reason, just awesome recruiting.

Salem – Best start to a season, he is silk, I take him for granted too often, but he is an integral part of our beautiful defence.

Trac / Oliver were human today, didn’t help the Giants, Viney was able to do what was needed instead (in a very low key but solid way). Our mids have evolved and working much better as a unit, we also am sorry to say look better without Harmes ATM.

Jackson – thanks to the poster for the GPS data, did you see this kids’ km? He is going to be so huge in so many ways, still cannot believe his ability below his knees.

JJ, Sparrow, Spargo, Rivers – all did what is required, keeping a lot of people out of the team. All showing serious commitment – well done coaches. Jones going OK deserves his spot was sorry he didn’t snag a goal, he did a lot of team things on the day.

May, is a lock for AA.

Lever does a few booboos but he also does far more right, I guess the haters have to have someone to aim slings and arrows at.
